Falling Hard - 1.
Melody's POV
The limo pulls to the side of the road and stops in front of Greystone Chapel in Malibu. I look out the window and see a beautiful arched building with stained glass windows. Inside each one is a pattern, which makes the building more intriguing.
My hands begin to shake, and I start to feel nervous. I haven't dealt with this since I first performed in front of a crowd. "Mom," my voice sounds shaky to my ears.
Mom grabs my hands, and a smile spreads across her face. "Sweetheart, you've got this. The man you love will be waiting for you inside that building. Everything you've planned for has happened. Now, let's get you inside and dressed."
The door to the limo opens, and Mom is the first person to step out of the car. She holds her hand out for me, and I take it. "Thanks, Mom." I look into the car and see my sister on her phone. "Who are you talking to?"
Maggie looks up with a giant smile. "I'm talking to Aysha. She just told me that her crush asked her out, and she accepted. Isn't that great?"
"It is. Are you interested in any guys?"
Maggie's face turns red before she covers it with her hair. "We're not going to talk about that, Mel. It's your day to shine." She climbs out of the car and follows us into the building.
We climb twelve steps to reach the chapel's front door. The red door is open, and we step inside.
Next to the door is a table with a guest book and some candles.
A middle-aged man with dark hair and dark eyes, wearing a robe with a white collar, walks towards us with a smile. "You must be bride, Melody Stryker."
"Yes, I am."
"My name is Minister Camden, and I will officiate the wedding. Follow me," he says as he leads us down a corridor with red hallway runners. The glass windows have pictures of angels in them. The walls are white; just before you enter the room, there's a crucifix with Jesus on it. "I will have someone get you when it's time."
"Thank you." I step into the white room. It has a TV in the corner and a mirror opposite. There are a couple of chairs around, too.
My bridesmaids Danielle, Grace, and Harmony walk into the room. Followed by the Maid of Honour, Cleo. They rush over to me and hug me.
Danielle steps away from the group and pulls something out of her bag. "Okay, girls. Let's get the party started." She pops open a bottle of champagne and gives us all a glass.
Maggie takes a glass from one of the girls and drinks it. She spits it across the room before glaring at the group. "That's nasty."
We all laugh at my sister.
I pull her against me. "You get used to the taste."
"I won't." She folds her arms across her body. "When I turn twenty-one, I hope they've improved the type of wine they make." She opens her bag and pulls out her bottle of water. Taking a long sip from it.
Ding, Cleo's phone goes off, and she looks at it. She moves over to me and says. "TMZ is talking about you. Let's see what those assholes are talking about."
TMZ is known for being harsh toward celebrities, so I avoid their show.
Maggie turns the TV on, and we watch the two female reporters come on. "America's Sweetheart and talented singer/songwriter, Melody Stryker, will marry today. Everyone's eyes will be on this wedding of the year."
The second one shakes her head. "She's not the only one getting married this year. If her wedding isn't a success, we'll be looking forward to one of America's action stars, Evan Wilson, with his equally successful fiancée, Ariana Houston."
Why do they have to pit all the celebrities against each other? Just because I'm not marrying someone they approve of, they have to make snarky comments like that about us.
The first reporter smiles. "Now, those two are a perfect couple. At least we know whose designer clothes they will be wearing. As they are close friends with the designers."
"Who do you think Melody will wear? Amelia Daniels? The Butler Twins? Or Stratford?"
I look at them and say, "I will wear the Butler Twins design. The twins know how to make their clients' wishes come true. They will be here shortly with the dress."
At that moment, the door opens, and Xanthe and Yasmin walk into the room with a garment bag in their arms. "Yes, we will be." Xanthe looks at the TV and then at the people around the room. "Why are you all watching that crap today of all days?"
Looking at her, I say. "I don't want to miss out on the gossip. They also think Ariana's wedding is going to be successful."
Xanthe touches my arm. "Don't worry about what those assholes have to say. It is your day, and no one can take that from you. Do you understand?" I nod. "Good, it's time to put the dress on you."
Mom, Maggie, the bridesmaids, and Cleo leave the room while I get changed into the beautiful gown.
I step out of my clothes and put on the dress. The dress gets bunched up. Xanthe and Yasmin walk around me, fixing it up. They step back and look at me.
"How does the dress feel?"
"It's perfect." I move quickly over to the twins and hug them. "Thank you so much."
We all smile and laugh when the door opens, and Cleo walks in. She has an envelope in her hand, and she looks pissed.
What happened?
As the room turns sour, Xanthe and Yasmin grab their stuff and excuse themselves.
"Cleo," I ask cautiously. "What's wrong?"
She gives me the envelope. "The Best Man gave this to me." Cleo moves away from me and opens the door. "I'm sorry." With that, she walks out of the room, giving me privacy.
I take a deep breath as I read his letter.
Dear Melody.
I'm sorry to do this on our wedding day, but I can't marry you. For a couple of weeks, I've doubted my ability to marry you.
He had to wait this long to call it off. All the money I spent on this day has gone down the drain, and I won't be able to get a cent back.
I won't be home when you get there. I'm moving to London with Renee, whom I have been seeing on the side. She's pregnant with our first child, and I can't be happier than I am now. She told me about the baby last night when I was with her. See you around, champ.
Love
Dalton
Xxx
You don't love me. Did Dalton ever love me? Or was he just with me because of my wealth and the fame that I brought with me?
I'm not sure where things changed for him, but just last week, he told me he wanted to start a family while we were on our honeymoon. I was going to make his wish come true.
It looks like another woman beat me to it, as she's the one now carrying his baby, and they are moving across the world to raise it together.
I let out a scream and dropped to the ground, with big tears falling down my face.
Mom runs into the room. "Oh, sweetheart." She pulls me into her arms and kisses the top of my head.
"How could he do that to me, Mom?" I look her in the eyes. "He was the first guy I ever loved."
Mom kisses the top of my head. "He won't be the last man you fall for. There's someone out there for you. He will be lucky to fall in love with a beautiful, successful woman like yourself, Mel."
"Mom?"
"Yes,"
"I want you to find someone who needs a wedding for today. The chapel is available today, and somebody will cater the reception. I want a couple to enjoy this day as I was supposed to."
A smile spreads across her face. "Even when you're in pain, you think of others. That's why you are loved by many."
Mom called Aliyah and told her what happened at the wedding. I told her I would like to help a couple celebrate their day by giving them the chapel and reception as a wedding gift.
