Chapter 89
The forest was burned partly and damaged. The scepter laid on the ground near the dying Queen's body. Danny couldn't control the scepter after taking her husband's power and underestimated how strong it was. He almost killed himself from the massive and final blast but, it took energy out of him causing him to fall unconscious.
A group of concerned citizens of Vampdom and Rosiepuff are searching and calling out the names of their rulers. The offer King's eyes widen in shock when he sees his daughter-in-law! He ran over to her then gets onto his knees as she gets closer to the light. His heart was pounding with fear and worry. The dying mother looks up at him with her heavy eyes.
" B - Branch...", the Queen says faintly and weakly dying.
Then she shuts her eyes for the last time as her head slowly rests onto the ground heavily. She didn't get to finish what she was saying but, there nothing more she could... The Queen lost this battle and it took her away. Death won...
A few moments later Rosiepuff is in the same area where Branch was hidden away. The sound of a baby crying had lead him closer to it. The Royal vampire all by himself looked around frantically trying to find his granddaughter but, then he noticed a certain tree with holes.
As the vampire walks closer and closer to it he could hear the crying. It would become softer then louder. Then Rosiepuff looked into one of the holes and inside was none other Branch. The princess was the source of all the crying. She was scared... But, then when she opens her teary little eyes she stopped crying completely. The baby locked eyes with her Grandfather and simply stared at him.
" That's when I knew everything changed...In that moment I made a promise that I would never let what happened happen again and to keep Branch safe... ", Rosiepuff narrates.
The Grandfather reaches into the hole then slowly and gently pulls his remaining family out of it. It broke his heart to lose Oliver and Nora especially since not only they were striped away from him and the kingdom. They were taken away from Branch, their baby who needed them the most. Rosiepuff looks down at the little vampire in his arms. The former king turns around with a determined expression now in his eyes and on his face.
The flashback ends. Poppy looks at Rosiepuff with a look filled with genuine concern and care. His heart had broke more open and was filled more empathy than before. There was nothing he could says as he frowned in that moment. Poppy couldn't believe that someone did such horrible thing to their family and kingdom. He felt so bad and sorry for them. The Timberlake family didn't deserve to go through so much tragedy...
The elder vampire closes the book not even looking at his company. He simply was looking up at the empty space on one of the shelves in the bookcase in front of him. Rosiepuff puts the book back into it's place next to a family scrapbook as he spoke again. It was hard for him to tell the story...
" That was all hundred years ago... ", Rosiepuff says heavily.
Rosiepuff turns around to his guest calmly. In his lifetime he had seen many tragedies but, that one he told was the worst of them. Still today he did his best to keep his promise even if it meant stepping back when Branch asked him to. The grandfather wasn't always able to protect his princess but, he never stopped trying to keep her safe.
" What happened to Danny?", Poppy asks.
Poppy knew someone named Danny but, he had no idea that his Danny was the horrid person who broke apart Branch's family. Danny has been hiding away within the troll village since he was banished. He still wants revenge...
" I banished him from Vampdom after the funeral for King Oliver and Queen Nora. I wanted him far away from Vampdom... from Branch... Nobody would be safe if he remained here. Probably dead by now by the hands of a hunter. ", Rosiepuff says honestly and calmly.
A servant loudly opens one of the library door. As a result the sound caught the two male vampires' attention causing them to look at the door. The servant walks over to them slowly and calmly with a shut closed black case in his arms. The vampire servant was very professional as he spoke to the former king ignoring the guest. He was more focused on his job than in finding out who came to visit.
" Your Highness, I couldn't find the Queen and I need to know where to move the scepter to temporarily. ", the servant says calmly.
" Keep it locked away in the magical weapons vault til the displaycase is clean. Make sure nobody gets their hands on it. Queen Branch is still out but, she should be back soon before sunrise latest. ", Rosiepuff says seriously and calmly.
The servant nods his head to the older vampire then walks away after being dismissed. Rosiepuff walks back into the section much more deeper. He was seeking some old family history that has been scrapbooked. The Royal trusted and firmly believed the scepter was safe and would never get in the wrong hands again.
Poppy watches him only eyeing the box which the scepter was hidden in quietly. The box was so plain and seemed to not be special in anyway but, yet it indeed had something both powerful and special. When it was in the wrong hands it was proved to be deadly and almost uncontrollable. Poppy truly hoped that the scepter wouldn't be taken again...
"I suggest checking the cemetery... There is a special remoral Branch likes to visit...", Rosiepuff says kindly and suddenly.
The spy turned towards the older vampire removing his attention from the scepter's box. The servant opens the door and closes it behind him loudly but, not as loud as the first time. The sound had zero affect on the few people in the beautiful and old library. The maids were too focused on their dusting to care.
Poppy notices the grandfather was simply skimming through the different book titles on the shelf nearest to his eyes level. There was a happy and small smile on his face. It's like now nothing could bother him. The tragic family story was something he didn't want to relive again mentally but, telling the story helped him come more to terms with it. That was a good thing at least.
" You will notice it when you see it. Usually has flowers growing around it. ", Rosiepuff says calmly.
A soft and kind smile slowly appears on the spy's face in that moment. Poppy nods his head to Rosiepuff slightly after Rosiepuff turned his head to him. The elder smiled kindly back then watched as his guest shortly and calmly left his view. It was more than obvious where Poppy was going. Rosiepuff just hoped that he will find Branch there honoring her parents.
