Chapter Nineteen
**Evelyn's POV**
I awake after feeling that I had slept in longer than normal. Lynda is dusting and I couldn't help but feel a little angry. "Lynda, why didn't you wake me!" More of a surprised statement than a question.
"Evelyn, there's really no point considering you won't be attending the events planned."
I sigh. "You're right, I'm sorry."
She hands me a tray. "Here's your breakfast. Eat up!"
I inhale and smell sausage patties, biscuits, fried eggs, and a ham and cheddar omelet. I feel my mouth water lightly. "Mmm..." I take a bite of the omelet and let out a small moan. "This is delicious!" I shovel the rest of the food in and sip at my juice. She laughs and takes my tray before leaving. I look at the closet and instantaneously remember the secret passage that led to a room that I recall was dark and eerie. I shudder at the thought but curiosity got the best of me and I grab a box of matches I had found that were labeled 'in case of emergency.' I throw on a robe and go to the wall on the left. Placing my fingers on the wall, I trace the lines, looking for any sign of a hidden door. I hear the door open and sigh at having found nothing and walk out to see William. Maybe it was just a dream I had, but I had to be sure. I had to ask him about it.
"Was it a dream, or did it really happen?"
He laughs. "Do you really think it best that you go back down there? You were clinging to me like a baby!"
I slap his chest. "Shut up! I just want to know what's down there!"
He walks to the closet, motioning for me to follow. "Then, I suggest we go back down there." He walks to the right side and after several seconds, wooden boards move aside to reveal a dark passageway. I go to the left side and grab the box of matches.
"Here, we'll need these!" I hand him the box of matches and he grabs my hand as we proceed into the darkness together. He lights the first match and points it towards the walls, lighting a torch that leads to light up a trail of torches along the wall, going around the room. He proceeds to the other wall, doing exactly the same thing.
I gasp. "It-its beautiful!" It was a large room with painted walls of myths. A large chandelier hung from the middle of the room, lit by little candles. There was a round, tile island in the midst of the room, surrounded by shallow water with koi fish swimming. A bridge led from where we were standing to the island which had a table and two chairs set up. I look at William. "Did you know about this?"
He shakes his head. "No, I've heard stories of a room like this one with underground tunnels but I've never found it up until now. Maybe you're just good luck."
We take a final picture in our head before heading back up. I hear my door handle rattle and panic. I hold a hand up to his chest, making him stop and I get to the ground, pretending to look at my shoes.
"Evelyn?" Lynda's voice.
I look up and smile my best smile despite my racing heart. "Lynda!"
She frowns and rushes to my aid. "Are you okay?"
I nod and get up. "Yes, I'm fine."
"Evelyn, you're not supposed to be out of bed. You need to rest, worry about your clothes when you aren't room bound."
I nod. "Okay. I will rest."
She smiles. "Good. And if you see the Prince, tell him the King and Queen wish to see him."
I shake my head. "Will do." She leaves and William comes out laughing.
"Guess I better report to the Royal Chambers."
I nod. "Yep, I think that would be wise."
He leaves and I don't remember exactly what happened because I know I was bored so I wake up to Lynda giving me a tray for dinner. I scarf it down and Lynda gives me a scolding look.
"Next time, you had better eat lunch when I bring it to you."
I nod. "Yes...I'm sorry."
She laughs. "Don't apologize. Just eat your daily meals, no skipping."
I nod. "Yes, Lynda. I understand." I smile at her to show my understanding before she cleans and leaves.
The rest of the week had gone by slowly but I was finally happy to wake up Monday morning, knowing I could finally escape my prison. I gladly let Lynda tightly lace up my dresses and grip my hair as she pulls it into braided buns and apply light makeup to my face. I wanted to run down the stairs but I had to walk because it was mannerly. I see Scarlett sitting on a love seat in the lounge and I smile as she looks up and sees me.
She grins and gives me a bear hug. "You're finally free! How do you feel about that?"
I laugh. "Amazing! I am not locked in a prison."
She laughs but quickly hushes as Prince William walks by, looking at me. "I will give you two a minute." She walks away without another word.
"Glad to see you out and about." He says smiling.
"I can't even describe how happy I am."
He chuckles. "That's great you're finally well but I have made some changes that you may need time adjusting to."
I groan. "I feel like I missed a week at school. Time to play catch up..."
He shakes his head. "Nothing big just that some of the girls complained and felt it unfair that we have had a few dates, while some of the others haven't had any dates at all, so I am now going on dates with every girl. I am booked this week but maybe I can squeeze time for you in there."
I shake my head. "No, no, I am going to enjoy this free time while you're on your dates. I've wanted you to go on dates with the other girls; its about time you listened to me."
"Haha, very funny. But that means less time for fun and exploring and less dates."
I smile. "I can live with that!"
He glares at me. "Anyway, I will see you at breakfast."
"Tata for now. Isn't that what rich people say?" I say smirking.
He walks away, ignoring my question.
Everybody takes their seat for breakfast and wait for William's announcement for which girl he would be going on a date with today. I groan mentally, not because of the dating thing but because we couldn't eat until he announced it.
He stands. "Dakota, we have a nice evening planned." He smiles at her before sitting back down.
I finally got to eat. I slowly eat my food while listening to the chatter.
"OMG! Dakota, you're so lucky!"
"Ugh! Why didn't he pick me? Oh well, Dakota is better than Evelyn."
"Will you trade with me Dakota?"
I roll my eyes. They made me want to gag myself but I wouldn't want to give them the satisfaction. I quietly finish my breakfast.
Rachel laughs. "The hog's done eating. Maybe now she'll sneak the Prince up to her room so they can have a make out session on her bed. Maybe even a little more than a make out session."
I glare daggers at her, imagining her head would roll off if I did it enough times, but to my disappointment, nothing of the sort happened. "And what is that supposed to mean?"
She snickers. "You don't have to keep it a secret, everyone knows. I saw you two in your room when you were air quote sick. You were sick alright, a sick little tramp. How did you convince him? Or maybe he just saw that you were easy." She pauses. "Is that how you made it to this competition, sleeping with the person in charge so they'd pull your name?"
I roll my eyes. "If you think we slept together, you must have a brain injury, I'm not you. Making assumptions about me, maybe you should check yourself. Did you sleep with the person in charge to get here? Oh wait, who am I kidding? Of course you did! You must have gotten my life confused with yours. Its okay Rachel, everyone makes mistakes. But FYI, this is a castle, not a place for prostitution."
"Just wait...i wonder what Prince William will think when he hears what his tramp is saying to people."
I put a finger to my chin. "Hmm...Rachel, that might not be good. He might send you home."
"I was talking about you."
"I know you were, but how could you be talking about me when you're the tramp?"
"Watch your back!"
"Why? Are you gonna hurt me? Yeah right, like you could hurt me. The only way you attack people is by words, and frankly, those don't hurt either." She gets up and walks over to me, attempting to punch me but I quickly block it.
"What the hell, Rachel?" I stand and she throws herself to the ground, grabbing my leg and making me fall onto her.
"Evelyn! Stop hurting me!" I stand and glare.
"You attacked me! Get that through your thick skull!"
She pretends to cry and runs to Prince William who had stood up and walked towards the table.
A minute or two later, he walks up to me. "What the hell was that!"
"What are you talking about?"
"Your first day back and you attack Rachel!"
I cross my arms. "I didn't attack anyone!"
I look around and see the girls scattering out, I guess they had been dismissed. "She came crying to me! I saw her on the floor, you on top of her!"
"She attacked me! Then she threw herself on the floor and tripped me to make it look like I attacked her!"
"Okay, okay. Just try not to get into fights please."
"Okay then tell her to watch it because she starts it every time!"
