Chapter Eighteen
**Evelyn's POV**
After a while, he finally leaves before anyone got suspicious. I plop down on my bed and sigh exasperatedly. That was...different, to say the least. The good news was that we were finally getting along again actually, better than before and I was back to my regular fatty appetite. Bad news was that I was room bound for the rest of the week to keep my health in check. I was not looking forward to sitting on my bed watching the wall to make sure it wasn't eroding or running away. Good thing I could count on Scarlett and Lynda to keep me company and prevent me from going completely crazy. Yes, completely. Kissing William made me crazy. I had to admit though, he was really getting to me. I constantly find myself thinking about him, wanting his company, and replaying the kiss in my head. I feel myself blush. Now that farfetched idea of me wanting to compete for his love wasn't so. A soft knock comes from the door and Lynda peeks through the door. I smile and acknowledge her to come in.
She brings me a tray for lunch containing a grilled cheese with tomato sauce, potato chips, fruit salad, and a cup of apple juice.
I smile at her graciously. "Thank you very much Lynda."
She nods and walks back out the door. I was thankful for the food but that still didn't make me any less bored. A soft knock comes from the door.
I clear my throat, wondering who it could be. "Uh, come in!"
William walks in, something behind his back. He sits on the edge of the bed. "I brought you something to ease your pain of sitting here for the rest of the week."
I place my food tray onto the nightstand and quirk my eyebrow up contemplating. "What is it?"
He hands me To Kill A Mockingbird. "I saw you reading it the other day in my room so I thought maybe you'd like to read it while you were being room bound."
I gratefully take the book from him. "Thank you. That was very generous of you."
He grins. "I know. I am just so caring and generous."
I slap him. "Don't get your ego too high. Its high enough as it is."
He laughs. "Don't you know it. With a girl like you around, guys tend to feel better."
I stick my tongue out at him. "Don't play with me like that."
He smiles at me. "I was being one-hundred percent serious."
I bite my lip, thinking deeply. "Hmm...somehow, I don't believe you."
He leans forward. "Then how about I prove it to you?" Ours lips almost touch before I push him away as someone knocks on the door.
I point to the closet and he runs, hurriedly hiding behind dresses. I lean back. "Come in!"
Scarlett saunters through, smiling big. I'm glad she was happy. She sits on the edge of the bed next to me. "Sorry about the news, but on the bright side, I will be here to keep you company and cheer you up!"
I laugh. "Yes, I can always count on you."
"That's what I like to hear! So now that I'm here, what do you want to do?"
I laugh. "There's not much I am able to do on these conditions."
She waves me off. "Oh cut the crap. You're perfectly fine, they just want you to rest up."
I cross my arms. "Fine. What do you want to do?"
She shrugs. "Anything but sit here being boring like you." She smiles at my expression. "Joking, joking. You know, haha funny? Yeah, I was just kidding." She jumps up as the dresses in the closet rustle. She raises an eyebrow, inquiring. "Are,you hiding someone in your closet."
"Pssh, no. That is ridiculous!"
She gasps as she makes her way to the closet. "Is it Prince William you're hiding in your closet?"
My eyes widen as she pushes the dresses aside to reveal...nothing? She looks through the rest of the dresses and the closet but still nothing. I wipe my brow, relieved. But where did he go? I look at her sternly. "Told you so. No one is in my closet. Got your hopes up for nothing."
She sits on the bed once more, sighing in boredom. "I really expected someone to be in there."
I laugh. "It was probably just the breeze." So we sit there, talking, laughing and gossiping. She eventually leaves and William comes out.
"Could you have taken any longer?"He says as he wipes dust particles off his clothing.
"I apologize for the delay and for your inconvenience but, how'd you disappear like that?"
He takes my hand. "I need to show you something."
I pull my hand away. "Okay, but first I need to pretend I'm taking a nap and don't want anyone to disturb me." I walk to the door and call for Lynda as William goes back to the closet.
"Yes, Evelyn?" She curtsies politely.
I yawn. "I am going to take a nap. I don't want to be disturbed. Can you please allow no company? I will call for you when I awaken."
She nods. "Of course. Enjoy your nap." She says and walks away without another word.
I walk towards the closet and William pokes his head out.
"Ready?" He asks.
"Ready for what?"
He laughs. "If I told you then it wouldn't be a surprise!"
I sigh. "Okay, fine..." I let him take my hand and guide me through a secret passage in my closet that lead underground.
It smelled musty, like dust and cobwebs. We finally get to a wide open room that was completely dark. Without thinking, I grab onto William's arm, immediately feeling calmer and safer in this ominous space. I tug on his arm like a little child on their older brother's arm. "Can we go back, please?"
He nods. "Yeah, let's get out of here." We get back to my room and I lie down.
"So, I will see you tomorrow after breakfast?"
He nods. "Sounds like a plan. Goodbye for now." With that, he walks out the door and I eventually fall asleep, wondering about the secret room.
