Chapter 11

Some things in this world are really unexplainable. Even you try your level best, you just can't get an answer to every single question that you have. Sometimes, finding the answer becomes too risky, resulting in people pointing their fingers at you but sometimes when you get the answer, you find yourself in a state of shock, unable to process what's going on and it is how you end up losing your sanity and questioning very own existence.

I used to laugh at superhero movies, finding it really funny that a human could think of such supernatural, impossible powers but had I known that I would be witnessing it right before my eyes one day then I would've never ever laughed at it. Keith had powers. Mysterious and unexplainable powers that no other human being had. Actually, it was impossible for a human being to possess such powers or he would not be regarded as human. The question is, what exactly is Keith? Is he really a human or not?

I rubbed my forehead as I could feel a throbbing pain because I have been thinking a lot for these past two weeks. It's been two weeks since the engagement drama and Keith's reality coming before me. Two weeks since we were forced to attend every press conference, reality programs, and his office parties to announce our fake love, wedding. For two weeks, we have been acting as if we were lovers and happy to get married to each other when in reality we used to part ways not even bothering to inform each other, as soon as we were out of public sight.

We didn't talk, we didn't even look at each other. Probably, because we were nothing but were forced to be with each other and to top of that I wanted to talk more about his powers but the fact that two weeks ago I made a stupid decision of ending my life and him saving me in the last moment had me feeling little embarrassed and I didn't really want to discuss it.

So, it was why I ignored him and I knew he was ignoring me because I knew about his powers. I am sure he had never wished anyone to find about it but as I had already seen it, it was also very much strange to him that someone actually knew about it.

I looked at the book that was right before me but nothing really made sense as my mind kept on drifting off towards Keith. We were again going out today for Ms. Leila's engagement party. Turned out, his sister is going to be married soon and before she gets married off she had planned to hand over everything to Keith before shifting off to Australia with her husband. Today was her engagement and as I'm engaged to Keith I was supposed to be at the party too.

The shopping part for the gala is already done and I brought a dress from the mall that was in the sale. Yes, sale! Because I had already bought eight to ten dresses from these past days as I had to attend so many events with Keith. Thankfully, I bought all the dresses in sale in order to save money and nobody seemed to notice the quality of the dresses that I wore, much to my relief and moreover, I didn't really care about how I looked.

So, I looked at my wristwatch to find it already five in the evening. Sighing, I closed my books and walked back towards my hostel but not before grabbing a cup of coffee from the canteen. I have been a subject of talks and gossips since the day Keith showed up before me and did that stunt in theat entry gate. People around me have been talking a lot about me because I was not only in contact with a powerful family of the nation but also was engaged to the heir of their company and some even approached me wanting to be closer to me for their benefits. They think I'm naive and innocent not to notice their sudden endearment and affections for me, but I could see right through them and the only reason they talked to me was to get closer to the Devlin family.

I would generally avoid them straight away. Some took it negatively and they started mocking me and even labeled me as a woman with attitude problems but the fact that I have been suffering all this way before I was engaged to Keith, did not really affect me in any way. I remained positive and did as it was going on and according to the situation. And currently, the situation wants me to get ready for Leila Devlin's party and it was what I was doing.

I brushed up my hair and used the curler to have some wavy curls at the end of my hair. Patricia, a friend of mine who lived next to my room, helped me with my makeup and she did a great job as I looked at myself in the mirror. She had put a cat eyeliner in my eyes and applied some mascara to pop my eyes with some light brown eyeshadow. A baby pink glossy lipstick and some blush to my cheeks.

"Thanks Patricia," I said as I hugged her and she chuckled.

"Thanks for all your notes too. You look amazing," she said remembering the days when she was absent because of typhoid and while she was absent I did all her notes. She was the only girl that I was a little closer to on the campus and I was glad, she was my friend. She had helped me every now and then but never really depended or asked for any help in return. The girl was from a political background and I had heard she was also engaged to a prosecutor but we had never seen him anywhere near to her. But the ring that she wore on her finger was the only proof of her being engaged and it was all that we knew.

I never really asked her anything about it neither did she ever tell me anything about it. The icy blonde girl with black doe eyes was certainly the only friend that I had, to which I was glad.

"Here," she gave me the dress that I kept on my bed and I took it looking at the satin fabric. It was a mustard-colored asymmetric, tie-up satin dress that I had bought from the mall.

"I gotta go now. I have a facetime with Sean now," she beamed with happiness as she talked about her fiance. A pang of jealousy appeared in me as I saw the way she was happily waiting for her fiance's call. It was how I had wanted my better half to be. I would have been happy if I had been with someone who would acknowledge my presence and even try to communicate with me without any reason. Keith was not that typical fiance. True, we both knew what was the situation in which we were put together but still I hoped to get out of the seeming relation and get myself the one whom, I deserved.

"Alright," I forced out a smile and she turned around to leave "Enjoy your party," she called out as she looked back at me and gave me a smile before opening the door and going out of my room.

I changed my clothes and got ready before seven as I sat down on my bed with the phone in my hand waiting for Keith's call.

He had told me that he would come to pick me up before seven and would call me when he reaches the front gate. From these past two weeks, I have come to know that Keith was never really on time. He was always half way past late or sometimes he didn't even show up. He would send his driver in his place to pick me up. I was actually glad that he does that. In fact, it was more of a comfortable ride with his driver rather than sitting quietly in his car with him driving like a maniac.

I really for his driver to show up, in place of him.

The vibration of my phone got my attention and I checked to find a text message saying he was in the front gate waiting for me.

Quickly, I checked myself in the mirror and picked up my purse from the chair as I walked out of my room and locked the door before heading towards the entry gate. The hallway of the hostel was really quiet that day and I could hear the clicking of my heels, clearly. I walked by Macey, a first-year student who was drinking water from the hostel's commercial water purifier. She looked at me and gave me a smile. I smiled back and walked past her towards the gate.

From the distance, I could see Keith standing next to the bonnet of his car waiting for me. He was again dressed up in a blue suit and he had left the tie undone dangling on his collar while some of the buttons of his shirt were left open and he looked tired with hair disheveled and his hands shoved inside his pant pockets as he stood there silently, gazing at the night sky. I handed over the permission letter of me leaving the hostel at night to the guard and made my way to him.

"You left your tie undone," I said as I looked at his tie and he looked at me.

"I can't tie it. My sister will tie it for me," he said and walked towards his side. But I had no idea what got into me, but I opened up my mouth and asked something that I think was really unnecessary for me to ask. "If you don't mind then I can tie it for you," I said and soon realised what I just did. Biting the insides of my mouth, I clutched my purse tight because of embarrassment but then he turned around and looked at me.

"Alright," he said and I blinked a few times shocked to hear that he just agreed.

What?

Did he really agree to take my help?

I kept on staring at him in disbelief when he cleared his throat that broke me out of my state and he said: "What? You just said you tie it!"

I nodded and made my way to him and kept the purse on the bonnet of the car. "Should I," he asked as he motioned to bent his head down because even though I was wearing a heel, he was still too much taller than me and I barely reached his shoulder. I nodded and he bent down. I had no idea, why all of a sudden I found my cheeks burning up and my heartbeat was slowly increasing as I tied up his tie. I would occasionally look up to find him already staring at me through his glasses, but he didn't even avert his gaze even though I had already caught him staring.

What's with him?

"It's done," I said once I had completely tied up his tie and left it for him to adjust it as his buttons were still open.

"You should close your buttons in order to adjust it," I gave him a bit of advice in a whisper and I picked up my purse. As I looked back at him, I found him still staring at me and he closed his buttons and adjusted his tie as he kept on staring at me.

"Is there a problem?" I asked disturbed by the fact that he was still staring.

"Nothing," he mumbled and turned around and walked to his side and got in before me while I stood there with the lights from the car's headlight falling on me in confusion. Sighing, I walked to my side, ready for the party.
