#Chapter-17
Zain's pov:
On call-
"Hello uncle! How are you?" I dailed to Ifza's father to know her whereabouts.
"I'm fine my son. How are you?"
"Son? Ahem *clears throat* umm...how's she?" I asked not knowing how to react him calling me 'my son'.
"Who? Your aunt, she's perfectly fine. I'll let her know you are asking for her" he said teasingly. He's a very fun and joyful person. Ifza surely is a blessed person to have such a loving dad. I envy her.
"Ah! Yes please. Convey my regards to auntie." I replied awkwardly.
" Why don't you say it yourself, talk to her" he handed the phone to Kinza auntie, Ifza's mom.
"Khalid stop teasing him." She whined before taking the phone from his hands.
We did the greeting parts and she started asking about how family is and what are they doing right now and blah blah..!!
"Ahh, auntie where's Ifza? She's not receiving my calls." I asked cutting into her interrogation.
"What? She's not receiving your calls. Did you too got in a fight"
"No"
"Then what happened?"
"Ugh (sighs) How would I know auntie, she's not receiving my call." I was irritated by her response. Both of them cares and worries alot when it comes to their daughter which sometimes pisses me off. I wish my parents could have shared the same amount of affection as they do.
"She's not home." she replied hesitatingly. Ugh my words would have offended her. It's no time to loose my impression upon them.
"Ohh, I see. Don't worry auntie I'll reach her, no worries." I answered with utmost awkward confidence.
Ifza's pov :
"I need you, to trust me. I've no one else. I wanna be with you, please don't leave me. Please!" he begged.
I looked for his eyes and they were really really attractive. I've seen those eyes earlier in my dreams too, manipulative and magical eyes. They seem so pure and honest which left me in an amusement.
Every ounce of my heart was shouting to stay and listen to his ghost-y story while my brain was triggering the alertness down my spine.
Finally, I decided to trust my heart and his devastated eyes.
"How long y-you? " Completely unaware of how to react to this situation, I gathered few words to break the silence.
"It's been five years." he replied fixing his gaze upon mine.
"How's this possible?" I cried.
"It was a car accident, I lost my life. I don't remember anything about that night but yeah, I ended being like this. Since that day No one ever saw me except you." he paused for a brief moment to examine my reaction which was blank and I stood like a numb statue.
"You are the only one, who could see me, talk to me and even feel my touch. In all these years, you made me feel more alive and human. Trust me, there's no other intentions besides I don't wanna loose you, Gorgeous." he yelped clutching me into his palms.
I was like a cat on hot bricks under his cold touch. His sight was still fixed, never leaving my eyes, making me even more nervous.
I could only hear his heavy breaths and my rapid heart beats echoing in the atmosphere until he decided to break the intimidating silence among us.
"He's looking for you". He whispered bending down to my cheeks which made me jump out of my skin.
"Wh-who's looking for me?" I stammered.
"Ifza! Thank God, you're here." I heard a loud familiar voice calling me. It was Zain.
"You should go." he commanded.
Zain's pov :
"Ifza! Thank God. You're here." I sighed seeing her safe and sound in one peice.
" Hey? What happened? What's up with this puzzled look?" I saw gwaking in air probably talking to herself.
"And with whom you were talking? I heard your voice." I drilled her with my questions.
"Nothing. No one. Umm...I was on phone. Talking to Ramsh." she hesitated, lied to be more precise.
"Princess, you know you are Sooo cute and a terrible liar. Because Ramsh is waiting for us in the car." I chuckled mocking her little attempt of lying.
" And where's your phone? I can't see one in your hand." I claimed.
"Zain, Uncle Zafar wants to talk to you." Ramsha came as a saviour of Ifza, intruding my interrogation, holding her mobile in one hand.
Clearly, I told her to wait in the car. These girls never listen to any piece of my advice. But one thing was clear, Ifza is trying to hide something. What it could be and what's she doing here alone in the first place.
Ramsha's pov:
"Where do you think you are going?" Zain stopped me from stepping out of his car.
"I think we came here to look for Ifza, right." I claimed.
"Yeah, but not exactly right. You're staying in the car, while am gonna go looking for her." he explained and left me behind in the car.
I couldn't just sit here and wait for our love birds to arrive. So I followed him.
"And where's your phone? I can't see one in your hand." I heard Zain asking Ifza.
This is the time I sensed she's in a mess and it's my duty as her best friend to cover for her besides all my insecurities, she's still my best friend and I cannot hold any grudge against her.
"Zain, Uncle Zafar wants to talk to you." I came up with the best possible excuse I could think at the nick of the moment to help her.
"Thanks Ramsh!" Ifza muttered.
"By the way you two together? I thought you'll never talk to him for what he did to you last night." she mused.
Flashback :
(last night)
"Do not call Ifza. Or don't you dare try bothering her until she gets well." he grabbed my arm again and warned me not to disturb his precious princess. "NOW LEAVE." he then pushed me letting my arm go with a lot of force which almost made me to loose balance and tremble down.
(today)
"Ramsha...someone's at the door" my mom screamed from the kitchen.
I opened the door. A person was kneeling down, hiding his face with a beautiful bouquet in his hands and a little sorry card flagging along.
"Please forgive me!" he begged in his husky yet innocent voice.
"Zain?" I mumbled.
"Look I'm sorry about yesterday. I shouldn't have behaved in that way." he paused for me to react.
Seeing me restless and trying to hide how flattered I'm on his little gesture, he moved forward to hold my hand.
"I should've handled you with respectfully." he whispered.
"Please..Zain...y-yo-u should leave." I stammered nervously as his eyes were stuck on mine.
"Not until you forgive me". He whispered pulling me little closer, made my heart skip a beat.
"Who's at the door Ramsha?" my mom shouted again which made both of us move apart.
"Come in!" I uttered breaking up the awkwardness among us.
"No. Actually I came to pick you up. You know Ifza's not home, neither receiving the calls. I wonder she's safe or not. Specially the behavior of hers since past few days makes me worry for her more. You can understand right." he explained his actual motive behind his little breath taking visit.
"Yes, I understand." I replied.
It's all about Ifza. It's always her. I will never be the one.
-Flashback ends
"Ramsh?" Ifza called.
"He apologized, I forgave." I muttered holding back the tears.
"Zain apologized! I never thought he'd take my advice seriously." she sighed.
"You don't know your impact on him, baby doll." I chuckled hiding the pain in my words.
Ruhaan's pov :
"You should go". I commadded when I saw her friends came looking for her. A guy who always disturbs whenever she's with me and a sweet, decent looking girl behind him.
Before leaving the park she glanced back towards me and passed a sweet smile in my direction. It gave me the hope to earn her trust again, to be able to help her and help myself.
After they left I continued my search for him. I followed few traces he left behind in his previous apartment. I know exactly where I can find him. Without wasting any other second I disappeared from there.
After hours of searching, I finally got the glimpse of him in the crowd who came to offer night prayers. Later I followed him in silence like a cold breeze.
On his way back to home, he stopped at the graveyard. What a perfect location for a reunion.
"Ruhaan?" he whispered when he felt my presence behind him.
"Bingo!" I replied making myself visible to him.
"Long time, dear friend, Hodja!" I smirked.
(A/N : Hodja = a Muslim scholar. Pronunciation = Hoja)
"How did you find me?"
" It was tough but not impossible."
"Before you ask 'What do you want', let me tell you, you owe me--"
"I owe you nothing" he wailed.
"Whoooo....Easy buddy. You know I won't leave you until I get my explanations, so try not to waste your energy."
"Should I consider it as a threat?" he huffed.
"No, No, No, No. I considered you as my friend, but you, in the end, left me. Abandoned me to wander here. And if you think I'm threatening you to answer me, no buddy you're wrong." I growled.
"I don't consider dead as my friend. Now get lost, unless you want me to cage you in." he warned. One thing is very clear from his behavior l, he's going through some kind of problem alone. I'll figure it out later when he think he's ready to share his burden with me.
"Okay, grudges apart. I need your help for something very important." I pleaded.
I wondered how this stupid girl became so important to me.
"And I'm not interested in any of your matters." he whined and left me alone again.
Hodja is a very old friend of mine. I know him since I was alive. He's a very noble Arabic Scholar who deals with djinns, curses and other paranormal problems of the people.
When my psychic problems started to get worse my parents called him to check upon me. And when I died he's the one who was able to see my soul. He helped me from the darker side of me after I was dead.
No one else could ever help Ifza the way he does. But I don't know what's wrong with him, since he figured some sort of problem which connects me to some dark magics he's avoiding me or is he trying to protect me? I can't figure out his behavior but I've to get back on good terms with him in order to save Ifza becoming one like me.
Now in this world where I'm neither wholly dead technically nor I'm alive, these two people, Hodja and Ifza are the only ones who has the ability to interact with me. I could understand why Hojda can see me but why Ifza is getting into this matter.
Lost in my thoughts I realized I was standing near her house. There's something which keeps me dragging towards her.
She was awake, I could see the lights on of her room. It takes time to process this situation to her and I can wait till she gets comfortable with the reality and decides to trust me.
Before I could disappear from there I heard her whisper my name standing in the window.
"Ruhaan?"
"Hello gorgeous!" I smiled at her.
"Can we talk?" she whispered.
