Chapter 2

Scrap! It's Optimus!

"Oh...uh, hi, Optimus," I greeted, my face starting to get warm.

"Hi, again sorry. I wasn't really looking where I was going, I was just trying to escape that meeting," he said.

"Galloway getting under your plating?" I asked.
He chuckled a little at my question.

His laugh is so cute! Gah, why do I keep thinking things like this!? He probably doesn't even feel the same way about me.

"Ah, no. I was just standing there listening to their conversation. I mean Galloway did blame the Autobots a couple of times and I told him off but other than that no," he replied, placing a hand on the back of his neck.

Stop being so fragging cute!
I smiled and laughed a little.

"I guess some people just don't understand," I said as I looked back out across the land.

Optimus sighed.

"Yeah. It's no Cybertron, but this planet sure is beautiful," he said.

"Agreed. What do you miss most?" I asked, forcing myself to look at anything but him.

"The culture. Cybertron was so diverse and has so many different aspects to its people. What about you?" he replied after a moment.

Out of the corner of my optic, I saw him looking at me.

Meep.
I turned towards him, but avoided his gaze.

"I miss my parents. They...were killed when Decepticons dropped a bomb on our house. Bee and I were only ten," I told him.

Why did I even tell him that? Maybe it's the fact that he's easy to talk to. But if he's easy to talk to, why can't I tell him how I feel?

"I find it incredible that bots like you can overcome that much. I mean here you are, fighting in a war after you lost so much to war," he said.

I looked up at him and gave him a small smile.

Did...did he just...compliment me? Eh, he probably compliments everyone. Well, maybe not Skids and Mudflap.

Thinking about the two Knucklehead Twins made me smile a little more. He smiled back at me.

"You look good when you smile," he said.
Wait WHAT!?

"I...um...thanks. You too," I replied, a blush creeping over my face.

Smooth move.

"Do you want to come with me to meet your brother and Sam?" he asked after a minute.

Omp, is he asking me out!?...Nah.
"Sure," I replied excitedly.

"Very well, we will leave in about fifteen. Go get what you might need for a four hour drive," he replied happily.

I nodded and walked to my room. I grabbed my other sword, along with my two blasters.

Well, that's all really need. Man, four hours alone...with Optimus...what could go wrong?

I walked back outside and saw Optimus already there. I smiled at him. He smiled back and transformed.

"You ready to go drive for four hours?" he asked.
"You bet," I replied as I transformed.

This is gonna be one long ride, but it'll be the best four hours ever!

"Then shall we?" he asked as he started his engine.
I did as well and eventually we got on the road.

"So... do you like it here on earth?" he asked after a while.

"Well, it's no Cybertron, but it definitely has a place in my spark. What about you?" I replied.

"Agreed, Cybertron might have been where I grew up but as of now Earth is my home away from home. You know I find it funny. Earth is so different from Cybertron but I don't think I have ever felt more at home," he replied.

"Yeah, I guess. It's just...even though it's been ten years since Bee and I lost our parents, nothing's been the same," I said.

"Losing your parents is hard, and I am sorry you had to go through that. The thing about war, unfortunately, is that it takes a bot's childhood too soon. If it doesn't take your life as a kid it makes sure you have to grow up too fast," Optimus mentioned.

"Yeah. So what about you? Are your parents still around?" I asked.

"No, they died when I was six, and I was forced to grow up. Move on too quickly. I-we were so young that I don't even know if Star remembers our parents. That's what makes Earth feel like a better home. I am not reminded of the past and I can focus on making sure this planet has a future," he replied.

He's right. Our parents would want us to do the same.

"Agreed. We can't let this planet and its life share the same fate as Cybertron," I said.

"So tell me, other than Bumblebee; is there anybot else that you are close with?" Optimus asked.

I thought for a moment.

"Well, I was close with my parents. Star and I are close, since we've been through a lot of scrap together. Sentinel Prime and I were dating for a while. The thing is, he was very possessive and he would never let me join him on missions or battles," I replied.

"I'm glad you and Star are close," he said.

Now's my chance to find out if he's currently with anybot.

"Yeah. What about you? Anybot that you're close with, other than your siblings?" I asked.

"Ah, no. Not particularly. And as you can probably tell, I'm not even that close with my siblings," he replied.

Yes! Well, it's kinda sad that he's not that close with his siblings, but I'm super happy he's not with anybot right now. Now all that's left is to find out if he feels the same way, which he probably doesn't. Meh, it's worth a shot.

We arrived at the cemetery before Bee and Sam did. Optimus transformed and stretched.
"Feels good to stretch after that long drive," he said.

"Yeah," I replied as I transformed too. I walked over and stood by him.

I really want to hold his hand right now, but that'd be weird. Should I ask him now? Nah, the setting is too perfect. It'd make it weird, especially if he doesn't feel the same way about me.

I watched the sun rise for a minute before letting myself look at him. The light bounced off of his armor, making the red look orange. His optics seemed to sparkle from the morning sunrise.

Alright, it's official; I love him. His determination, his skill, his looks, his personality. Everything about him is perfect. Gah, why am I falling for a Prime!?

Optimus smiled at me, which is when I realized I was smiling. I my face started to heat up, so I looked back at the sunrise. After a few minutes, my brother pulled up and Sam got out.

"You won't give me a day, huh? You won't give me one day in college?" he asked.

"I'm sorry, Sam, but the last fragment of the Allspark was stolen," Optimus replied.

"Like what? Like Decepticons stole it?" Sam asked.

"We placed it under human protection at your government's request... but I'm here for your help, Sam, because your leaders believe we brought vengeance upon your planet. Perhaps they are right. That is why they must be reminded by another human of the trust we share," he explained.

"This isn't my war!" Sam replied angrily.

"Not yet. But I fear it soon will be. Your world must not share the same fate as Cybertron. Whole generations lost..." Optimus said.

"I know, and I want to help you, I do, but I am not some alien ambassador, you know? I'm a normal kid with normal problems. I am where I'm supposed to be. I'm sorry, I... I really am," the boy apologized.

"Sam, fate rarely calls upon us at a moment of our choosing," he mentioned.

"You're Optimus Prime. You don't need me," Sam replied as he walked away.

Optimus then looked at me for a moment before turning to Bee.

"Take Sam back to college, then return to base," he said.

"Yes sir," my brother replied.

I smiled a little at my brother's response. When we first joined the war back on Cybertron, we both looked up to Optimus and respected him as a leader.

"What's the plan now?" I asked when Bee had disappeared.

He sighed.

"We go back to base so I can try and come up with a plan or at least figure out what the Decepticons are doing," he replied as he transformed.

I nodded and transformed too.
