Chapter 13

"Grandma, at least let me help you through the door," I pleaded. I reached for her arm and she snatched it away and whacked me upside the head.

"I can walk, child. If anyone needs help walking the door, it's you. You look terrible," Grams shrugged.

"Are you still mad that I didn't tell you about the Talisman?" I groaned.

"Psh. You neglected to tell me that you were dying. There's no way I'm mad about that," She glared. I sighed and pushed through the door, Ty and Oliver glued to my sides. Grams had just been released from hospital after her heart attack. I was still worried about her but she seemed pretty back to normal. I raised my elbow to my mouth and coughed, attracting the worried glances of Curly and Mo.

"Are you okay?" Ty and Oliver asked in unison.

"I'm fine. It's just dusty in here," I laughed. They raised an eyebrow at me and I sighed. "Guys, seriously!"

"Fine, fine. Whatever you say," Oliver sighed.

"Whatever but I don't buy it," Ty glared. I huffed an exasperated groan and stalked to my room, leaving the boys chasing after me.

"You know, you don't have to follow me around guys, I'm fine," I said, sitting down at the edge of my bed.

"Well, if I didn't follow you, what else would I do?" Oliver smirked. I shot him a glare and turned to Ty, who was very pale and shaking.

"Ty?" I asked worriedly, jumping to my feet painfully. "Ty!"

"Catalyst," He whispered. I put my hands on the sides of his face and inspected him.

"Ty what is it? Please tell me," I pleaded.

"B- Blood," He whispered and pointed a shaking had at my shoulder. I looked down to find that my pale grey shirt was soaked in blood on my shoulder. Oliver dashed to my side and I pulled down the corner of my shirt. My Talisman of Death was bleeding. I looked up at Ty, who looked on the verge of passing out.

"Grams!" I screamed.

"What is it?" She asked as she walked into the room. She stopped in her tracks when she saw my bloody shirt, then looked to Ty.

"Get him out!" I shouted. Grams grabbed Ty by the shoulders, forcing him from the room despite his quiet, muttered protests. Once he was gone, I ripped off my shirt, revealing my equally bloody tank top, and held it to my mark.

"What was his deal?" Oliver asked as he paced the room.

"Ty has a terrible fear of blood. He can't stand seeing people's blood, especially mine. In the fifth grade, I cut my hand really bad and he freaked and passed out," I sighed and winces as I removed the tshirt and grabbed a towel to replace it. I twisted the ring he had given me with my thumb and sighed.

"I'm sure he'll be fine, Cat. Question is, will you be?" Oliver asked, sitting down beside me. "You're still bleeding a good deal."

"I'm fine, just a little light headed. It should stop pretty soon," I said, pealing the bloody towel away from my mark to inspect it.

"You know what this means right?" Oliver asked quietly.

"Yeah. I have to draw the Talisman tonight," I sighed. "But I don't know if I can."

"You won't be able to with that mind set," Oliver smiled and placed his hand under my chin. "Think positive."

"Think positive? Is that supposed to be some dead person joke?" I laughed.

"Yes and no," He smirked. "But seriously. Believe in yourself."

"I'll try, Tinkerbell the friendly ghost," I laughed.

"Hey! Tinkerbell is cool," He chuckled.

"How manly of you," I smirked.

"Manly is my middle name," He said, whipping all expression from his face and puffing out his chest.

"Tinkerbell the manly ghost. Interesting," I grinned.

"Oh please. You know you love it," He smirked. I rolled my eyes playfully and moved the towel to find that my mark had stopped bleeding. I sighed in relief and quickly ran to the bathroom to clean myself up. After showering off the blood and changing my clothes, I walked into the living room slowly. I found Ty on the couch, his head propped on his hand and in his other, he held a coffee mug.

I cleared my throat softly and Ty jumped up, almost spilling his coffee. He set the mug down and ran over to me, wrapping his arms around me in and engulfing bear hug.

"I'm so sorry," He whispered quietly, his voice muffled by my hair. I pulled away from him and gave him a stern look.

"You have nothing to be sorry for!" I said fiercely.

"You needed help and I just stood there!" He cried.

"Tyler, I didn't need help. I wasn't hurt. I have no idea what happened but I was and still am fine! Don't beat yourself up over it," I pleaded.

Ty buried his head in my neck and sighed, sitting on the couch and pulling me down with him. I curled up in his arms and let him hold me for a while to help him relax. Once he was calmed down, we slowly pulled away from each other and sat hand in hand on the couch. Grams walked in a few minutes later to whack me on the head and scold me for scaring her like that. Eventually she finished shouting and pulled me into a hug before getting up to head to bed.

Ty and I made our way to my room with me leaning on his shoulder for support. I was still a bit light headed from earlier and the whole dying thing wasn't helping much either. Ty, Oliver and I sat on my bed and I sighed heavily.

"So, I assume I have to draw this darn thing here in an hour or so?" I asked, waving my messy sketch of the Talisman of Life in the air. Ty grabbed the drawing and stifled a laugh.

"Oh shut up. I'm an awful artist," I snorted.

"I'll say," Oliver snorted, leaning over Ty's shoulder.

"Say, what do you draw this with?" Ty asked.

I held up my mother's old necklace and smiled weakly. "With this thing."

"How the heck does that work exactly?" Ty scoffed.

"How am I supposed to know? Mom said I would just... know," I sighed.

"You'll figure it out," Oliver smiled.

"I hope so," I muttered.

I fell back into my pillows with a wince and coughed into my elbow. I looked over at Ty and frowned lightly.

"You should probably go," I said quietly.

"No way!" He cried. "I'm not gonna leave you again."

"I could be dangerous. I highly doubt Sam is gonna let me just heal myself just like that. It wouldn't be that easy," I sighed.

"Even more reason for me to stay!" He stated defiantly.

"Ty you can't even see spirits! Sam is no ordinary spirit, granted, but he can still hurt you and if he did, I would never forgive myself," I whispered.

"What if it doesn't work Catalyst? What if you can't save yourself? Who would I be if I wasn't there?" He pleaded.

"You would be a great friend. I don't want you to see that if it comes to it okay?" I said fiercely.

"Catalyst," Ty said softly and looked down at me. "If you can't do it...," He paused. I tilted my head curiously and he leaned down, putting a hand behind my head and kissing me. I was started into stillness and Ty pulled away from me. He got to his feet and headed towards the door as I sat up.

"I love you Catalyst," He whispered, almost inaudibly, and left the room. I stared after him in shock, my mouth hanging open.

"Told you," Oliver scoffed from behind me.

"I didn't... How did I not...," I stammered.

"I'll take that as a rejection," Oliver smirked.

"Oh shut up. I can't believe I didn't see it!" I huffed.

"Yeah," Oliver said, examining his hand. "Neither can I."

"Do you want me to hit you?" I snapped.

"Go ahead and try," He smiled sweetly.

"Why are you being a jerk about this?" I asked.

"Why haven't you already picked up on that too?" He countered.

"What?" I asked, tilting my head.

"You are really dumb," Oliver laughed.

"You're begging me to do something violent," I growled.

"You're distracting yourself from the task at hand," He pointed.

"I am not!" I huffed, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Then lets get started, shall we?" He said.

"Wait," I sighed.

"Thought so," He said smugly.

I shot him a glare then looked down at the pendant in my hands. I ran my fingers over the inscription on the back and sighed. I felt a small indent in the bottom of it an looked at it closely. There was another smaller inscription below the first one.

Exorior Jeremy

I uttered the words aloud and thought to myself. It sounded like Latin. I said it a bit louder and Oliver looked up at me in shock.

"What?" I asked.

"What did you just say?" He asked.

"Exorior Jeremy," I said slowly, pronouncing the first word as clearly as possible.

"Oh dear," Oliver whispered.

"What?" I asked, cocking my head to the side.

"Who exactly is Jeremy?" He asked slowly.

"That's my dad's name," I said, still very confused. Oliver stared behind me and winced, pointing a finger towards the wall behind me. I gave him a completely lost look and prepared my self to turn around when I heard a voice from behind me.

"Hello dear," said the voice. I jumped up from my bed and my hand went to my mouth. I stared at the man before me, completely and utterly shocked. I shook my head slowly, tears forming in my eyes. The man's arms had long ridged cuts that ran from his elbows to his wrists and was covered in blood.

"No," I whispered.

"What? No 'How are you dad?'," The man asked with a smirk tugging onto his face.

"Grams was telling the truth. You really did...," I began but fell silent as my gaze fell on his arms.

"Well, people do crazy things for love dear," My father smiled.

"What- Why are you here?" I asked.

"You summoned me," He shrugged. "Really darling, you should watch what you read aloud."
