Soulmates Sorry I didn't do this sooner but I wanted to make things clearer. I'm such a confusing person so yeah...

When the Mikaelsons turned into vampires their soul disappeared they weren't human but witches wanted to make sure that they would have some form of humanity to attach to. Unfortunately, they were born different times. But the moment a mate was born part of it's soul went to the Mikaelson its personality would be the greatest for.

Affects

*Soulmates love eachother.
*Want to protect eachother.
*CAN'T stay away for long.
*They can feel their pain whether emotional or physical.
*They can smell the scent of one another very strongly.
*Sparks where they touch.
*Can calm eachother.
*Can talk through their minds.
*No matter what your orignal mate CAN compel you. (but it's not as powerful and most likely weaken)
*Soulmates can't die because the other one did but they will feel pain both emotional and physical. Of course a mate can send each other a message a few minutes after death but it won't last long, they also can talk no matter what distance.

Children

Soulmates can have children only because they are either Human, Doppelgänger, Werewolf, Witch or Angel. The Mikaelsons can have children because of that half soul that they share but only allowed with a mate. If turned into vampire there is no way to have a family it just won't work. Of course the child would have whatever genes vampire is half and depends what species the other half is.

They feel very protective of their child because it is their mates child and their child. When in the womb the mates are especially protective of the mate and the cargo being so vulnerable. The baby has a deep connection to both parents and-while in the womb-can draw it's father in to help protect it (courtesy of the witches)
