8. Moons peak

•Poisoned•

After Klaus tried to give Elijah an apology gift and he refused me and him had our fun with the girl before she died. Now I'm currently laying with Klaus on the sofa, my feet on his lap as I watch funny youtube videos-my headphones plugged in trying to keep quiet because grumpy one and two are reading. after while I smelt Rebekah's oh-so-familiar scent as she walks in. I keep watching my videos not giving to shits about what she wants this early in the morning? Afternoon maybe?

After my video buffered I heard her say "-vampire book club." I hid my laugh. I wiggled my feet getting Klaus' attention and he smiled. my video played for a few seconds before I paused it taking my headphones off and putting my head on the pillow. "And what's this business?" Rebekah says gesturing to the dead girl.

Not looking up yet Elijah answers, "This is a peace offering." He then looked up at his brother who is still trying to read.

"I presumed after so much time desiccating in a coffin, that my big brother might be a bit peckish."

"So I explained to my little brother that forgiveness cannot be bought."

"Sure tasted good though," I mumbled even though I knew they could hear me.

Elijah gave me a not so amused-look while the others did as he continued, "I'd simply prefer to see a change in behavior that indicates contrition and personal growth." Klaus rolls his eyes guiltily, and Elijah gestures to the girl. "Not this nonsense."

"Well, we couldn't very well let her go to waste, could we?" He grins while taping my leg.

Rebekah smiles down at me then frowns as she sees the blood staining the carpet. "Well, I suppose I'll go fetch the rubbish bin because she's staining a two-hundred-year-old carpet." Elijah then looks up from his book to see the girl bleeding out as well.

"Ah, yes."

Hayley came through where we were a hand over her stomach and I bumped Klaus' hands so I could get up. He moved his hand and I swung my feet over getting up. I stuffed my phone in my pocket and walked into the kitchen.

"Rise and shine, Little flower." I smiled at her and she smiled back.

"Hey, Bumblebee." She replied with her own nickname for me.

"You're growing more Hales," I told her and she looked down rubbing over it.

"I know." She turned around rummaging through the fridge. I hopped up on the island counter and watched Hayley.

"Good morning." My head snapped up at the sound of Elijah's voice. Hayley looked over the fridge door.

"Hey." We both replied. Elijah moved to the cupboard and Rebekah opened the door coming from the outside.

"Listen. I know I'm the only one in this house that actually drinks milk, but would it kill any of you to make sure it's on the grocery list?" Hayley asked. I thought I got some for her the other day?

"Speaking of add bleach," Rebekah replies as she walks right through.

"You know, I do hope my siblings were hospitable toward you two in my absence," Elijah spoke up.

"In your absence--as you like to call it, which is a way-too-polite way of saying that your brother put a dagger in your heart--" She says looking at the cereal and Elijah sets down a bowl for her. "I have been attacked by French quarter vampires." I hopped off and went to where I had put the milk because I was so sure I had gotten some and grabbed some orange juice, I'm feeling a little human today. "I've had to live in a house with a secret dungeon full of coffins, and we were nearly murdered by witches who are convinced that my babies are Lucifer."

Elijah poured the cereal in the bowl while I poured in some of the milk. Hayley looked down at the milk and smiled. "Oh...milk."

"Yeah, I went shopping and got ya some the other day. Don't worry, I got ya back baby momma...or little flower."

She chuckled softly before I replied to his answer since she was taking so long, "They've been...fine."

"Yeah. Your siblings are weirdly protective. I know we have you to thank for that." She said.

"I'm just happy to see that you are both in one piece," He spoke softly. I decided this was way too much of a two people kind of thing so I backed up silently letting them have time to talk without a third wheel.

"Back to the murderous witches, I have some concerns." Is all I heard before I went to my room.

"Who do we have to kill?" I hear Rebekah say then I tune in.

"Probably no one." There is a moment of silence before I snort. we all know that's a lie. "All right. potentially everyone." Yeah, that is more like it.

I was resting in my room with Hayley talking about the babies when we yelped from the pain in our neck. "Ah!" We instinctively grabbed the spot on our neck. I pulled my hand away as my eyes widen when I see blood on my fingertips from a puncture wound that's starting to heal. I look at Hayley shocked as we both had a scared expression. Rebekah opens the door quickly hearing the yelps.

"What the hell was that?" Rebekah asked.

"I don't know I felt like I was being stabbed," I told her and Hayley nodded. Rebekah looks at our already healed necks. She took us to another room and we sat in chairs.

"I'll be right back." She said before adding. "Take care of each other." We nodded and she left us.

"I swear if this is another witch thing I'm gonna explode," I said jokingly/seriously.

"Looks like we can never get breaks from them." Hayley agreed.

"Now someday when we are not gonna get in trouble. We are gonna go baby shopping. I have never done anything like it before and it seems adorable." I told Hayley who smiled.

"Of course perfect bonding time for me and you." She said. "And maybe Rebekah." As if on cue Rebekah opens the door with a basket full of apples.

"Time for my baby nieces to snack!" I rolled my eyes.

"And me. I'm pretty hungry and those look good." I replied staring down the apples. Hayley looked at me and chuckled then turned to Rebekah.

"Where did you get those?" She asked. I just kept staring them apples down.

"Who cares. Give me." I said.

Rebekah rolled her eyes then answered. "The plantations lousy with them." She held out the basket to which I snatched and grabbed a very juicy apple. Hayley took one from the basket on my lap as I grabbed a second then Rebekah took it away.

"How're your necks?" She asked. I bit a huge piece of apple.

"I feel fine which is really concerning," I replied while some apple juice from the chunk of apple I'm still chewing slides down my mouth.

"I'm sure this is Sophie-related." Hayley scoffed.

"No doubt here. But do me a favor and don't die on my watch. I'll never hear the end of it." Rebekah agreed.

I finally swallowed down my apple chunk and looked at Rebekah amused as a thought came into mind. "You know, when I first met you, I thought you were a real bitch," I told her.

She smiled an asked. "What changed your mind?"

"Oh, I still think you're a bitch! I've just grown to like that about you." I said smiling making Rebekah chuckle. Hayley hummed in agreement then took a small bite out of the apple much smaller then I did.

I thought of how different this family is and how I actually don't mind it. It's like we always have an adventure even if it's life threating it just proves how much you mean to this family. And for them to care about you is pretty amazing. In all honesty, I don't think I would have it any other way this family is pretty difficult but fun.

"Haha! Well, that's sweet of you to say. I want you both to remember it when I'm gone."

"Woah, gone?" I asked.

"Where are you going?" Hayley asked.

"I only came to town to make sure everything was okay with Elijah. He's fine, and he hasn't punished Klaus for daggering him, so as usual, they'll be as thick as thieves, and I'll be left to clean up the mess. it's time for me to fly the coop."

Hayley talked to Rebekah while I was in thought and all the sudden felt woozy. Hayley and I looked at each other blinking like that was gonna help. Rebekah looked at us worried. "What's wrong?" She asked concerned.

"I don't know," Hayley mumbled. I shook my head not feeling great at all. She felt our heads. "You guys are burning up."

Rebekah got us to Hayley's room since it was closer and we laid down. This was not a good feeling at all. whatever it was it could hurt Hayley or the baby. Rebekah left to talk to Elijah so, I secretly took Hayley's hair and chanted some spell on her to lessen the pain on her and give it to me although she will be weaker I get the most of it which are fine as long as those babies are safe.

"I called Elijah. He'll be here any minute." Rebekah said as she came into my room.

"I feel better but Aphrena looks worse," Hayley said worriedly.

"I put a spell on you to give me the brunt of the pain but you'll feel only slightly weak," I told her softly. She went wide-eyed.

"No. Aphrena you shouldn't have done that."

"Hey. I promised to protect you and those children. I will never stop and I will never fail." I told her.

"That means a lot but still." I nodded.

"Don't worry. I'm sure I'll be fine."

Hayley turned to Rebekah as a thought came into mind. "Where is Nik?"

"Elijah told me he's busy trying to find Agnes. probably to rip her head off." She replied. I smiled at Hayley who had gotten closer to Klaus. I'm secretly rooting for them to get together to be a family. Klaus may be rude but It's just the way he is at times and with a little love he can show you a different side. I can see the way he wants these children he is softening up just a tad more.

Hayley got a rag to hand to Rebekah who helped wipe off the sweat on our forehead as my temperature was increasing rapidly and Hayley was getting slightly hotter. "I feel like I'm being microwaved," I complained.

"I feel like I'm getting sunburnt," Hayley said. She looked exhausted and in pain. Come on spell work a little harder.

"I'm sure my nieces are healing you up as we speak. As for you Aphrena, I don't think you should have done that spell we don't know what's happening or what's gonna happen." She told me.

"I know," I told her.

Elijah came into the room along with Sophie which made all three of us girls annoyed. "What the hell is she doing here?" Hayley asked. Sophie looked at her confused.

"Aphrena looks sicker than you." She said looking relieved...gee thanks.

"Yeah, I may have done a small spell so that she didn't have anything with the babies go wrong," I said weakly. Elijah smiled at me and Sophie didn't look surprised.

"Anyway, I'm here to help."

"Help? You're the reason we're in this bloody mess!" Rebekah spat then turned to Elijah. "Why aren't we unlinked with this witch already, Elijah?"

short 3 rd POV (just for fun)

"Rebekah, let her do what she can," Elijah told his little sister wanting the love of his life and his brother's baby momma out of pain and his sister to stop being a brat.

"I may know a way to slow down the fever. But, I'm gonna need some special herbs." Sophie said and then looked to Rebekah. "I'll text you a list." Rebekah glared at her then looked at her old best friend who was very weak due to helping her nieces and sighed.

"Fine. Happy to play the fetch girl. I'm only doing this for them and my little nieces." She put the rag she used on the girls into Elijah's hands.

Aphrena's POV

Once again they moved us outside where it was colder. Thank god I was feeling the effects more but it still is a bitch. Rebekah handed over the herbs and Sophie worked fast.

"Get them in the water!" Sophie yelled. Rebekah and Elijah took off some clothes and jumped in. Elijah grabbed me and Rebekah grabbed Hayley.

"I don't see how a midnight swim is supposed to help," Rebekah called out to her.

"Her temperature is sky high and Hayley is still overheated even with the protection spell. So, the water, with the help of the herbs, should cool us down." Sophie got in and gave Hayley the herbs. "Drink some of this." She drank half of it then gave me the rest.

"You two are gonna have to get their heart rate down."

"And how do you suggest we do that?" Elijah asks curiously looking between me and the witch.

"Hold them. It's a natural human remedy to slow the heart rate and reduce blood pressure." I groaned in agony as my stomach felt like it was on fire.

Elijah lifted me up into his arms bridal style going in deeper. "Davina will break that link." I started breathing harder and I could tell Hayley had shortness of breath. Oh god. "We just need time." I clutched on to him tighter.

The slight spark I had and his touch helped calm it down but only slightly. "I-I can't breathe."

"Ok. Take long deep breaths." I tried listening but all I could do was feel the pain. "Aphrena, look at me. Long, deep breaths. Just focus on the sound of my voice." I stared into his eyes feeling slightly better as he lowered me more into the pool.

"Ahh!" I scrunched up along with Hayley as a burst of even more pain came through. "Ahh!" I clutched my stomach and started panting until it started to fade.

"I just felt it lift." I looked over to Hayley and Rebekah seeing she was groaning but wasn't as bad as I was. I did it. She is safe.

Elijah slowly let go of me and I - for some reason - miss being in his arms. Sophie pricked her hand and Elijah held my hand to see nothing there and the same for Hayley.

I looked up at him so grateful that he was there and that he helped me and my friend. All I wanted was to kiss him but this was not the time or place.

He let go of my hand. "Come on. Let's go." He said and we all headed to the shallow end.

I grabbed Hayley as we walked over and held her close to me.

"Elijah...as soon as your brother find out that the link is broken, he'll kill Agnes. I know you don't owe me anything. But please don't let him kill her." Sophie pleaded. Elijah vamp sped out to grab his coat and phone when she called out again, "Elijah, she is our only access to the power we need to survive. Promise me that you'll stop him." Elijah dials Klaus and looks to Sophie before he answers.

"It's me. Where are you? Don't hurt her. I'll be there shortly." He hangs up then looks at Sophie again. "I'll make you one last promise. I won't let my brother kill Agnes." He then grabs his stuff and heads out.

I look at the trembling wolf beside me and hug her tighter. "I told you I would help you and protect you, not gonna stop it even if it hurts me." Sophie goes to get out but Hayley stands up to stop her.

"I know you were just using us to save your people, but try it again, we will kill you." She says before we walk out. Little flower got balls, That's ma girl!!

I put Hayley in my room so we could talk and I went downstairs to get some apples when I saw Elijah leave and Rebekah come out of the room shortly after.

"Hey," I said getting her attention. I walked down to her and smiled knowing this is good-bye. "I really wish you didn't have to go." I opened my arms and pulled her into a hug. "Thank you for everything you have done. You're like an awesome older sister. I'm going to miss you." A tear went down my eyes cause honestly, these past few months have been bearable with Hayley and Rebekah.

"I'm going to miss you too, Rena. And thanks for the company while I was with you. And I don't think this is the last you'll be seeing of me. Stay safe and watch out for her and the little ones for me. Be a great aunt." I pulled out of the hug and wiped her tears away.

"Our good-bye will be a see you soon. Ok?" I ask. she nods and I wipe the tear from me. "Now go do what you have to. I'll see you soon."

"Yes, see you soon Rena."

I heard a knock downstairs and I and Hayley got up we walked down to find Josh at the door.

"Where is he? I've been trying to find him all day. Marcel knows that Niklaus lied about where he lives."

"I don't know, Josh. I only talked to him shortly he was at St. Anns but that was a while ago." Hayley answered.

"Fine. Just tell him to call me, please."

"Ok," I said. He backed up and she closed the door. "Ok, go to my room and I'll go get the apples." She nodded and I went off.

Another knock came. "Oh, what the hell, Josh?" I was going to go back when I saw Marcel from my corner.

I watched her carefully. I may be accepted but she will need some help against him because his crew doesn't know about me they just know I'm a vampire.

"Hi there. I'm Marcel. I don't think we've met."

As soon as he leaves I sighed happily moving down to her. "Klaus will not be happy that Marcel has seen you," I mumbled walking away from the door just to hear another knock. I looked at her wondering if its marcel again.

I go to open it but I'm blinded and vervain is shot in me "Run!" I tried to scream to Hayley but I was weak and don't know how much running would have helped her. My eyes slowly get heavier and I worry about Hayley while I get thrown into darkness with that dreaded vervain feeling. what if she gets hurt? what about the babies?
