7. Wolf Tracks
•Sinners and Saints•
I walk to my closet and look for my jacket to get the necklaces. I had put hayleys in there and totally forgot about it with how much has happened. I grab the necklace and walk to Hayley's room. she is asleep so I grab a pen and paper from my room.
goodmorning Hales I had this made for you, I have a matching one just to opposite direction. I hope you like it.
-Love Aphrena <3
I sat the necklace and note down on her bed side then walked downstairs to get a blood bag. once I grabbed my breakfast I walk into the room where I heard Sophie, Klaus and Rebekah talking and decided to hear what's going on since im bored. "-Sabine stupidly told them about some vision she had about the babies." I walked into the room to stand near rebekah.
"What kind of vision?" Klaus asks.
"She has them all the time. They're totally open to interpetation. I'm guessing she's wrong on this one."
"well, how the bloody hell was this vision interpreted?" I ask, talking for the first time today.
"Pretty much that your babies would bring death to all the witches." Her eyes flicker across our faces.
"Ah, well. I grow fonder of these children by the second." I snicker but I guess I agree these children are already so strong and feared.
"Sophie, look, I promised Elijah that I would protect the Mikaelson miracle baby whilst he tries to win your witch Davina's loyalty. Why don't you tell me just how extreme this faction is?" Rebekah asks.
"Elijah's talking to Davina?" Sophie asks stunned with a little hope in her eyes.
"Yeah. As we speak, I imagine." I'm so happy we can have him back soon.
"I'm guessing she'll have plenty to say about that crowd." Sophie says with a knowing look.
"Do tell." Klaus says. I already know what this is about. That stupid harvest.
"I... wasn't always an advocate for the witches." Sophie starts. "My sister was devoted, like our parents, and our upbringing was very strict, which drove me nuts. The minute I turned 21, I left the Quarter to travel... and play. But, I wanted to be a chef, so I came back to Rousseau's."
"What the bloody hell is a Harvest?" Rebekah asks very confused.
"It's a ritual our coven does every three centuries, so that the bond to our ancestral magic is restored. We appease our ancestors, they keep our ancestral power flowing." Sophie explains.
"And why haven't I heard of this?" Klaus asks. Maybe because you havent been here for a long ass time and your not that into witchy stuff.
"Because a Harvest always seemed like a myth. A story, passed on through generations like Noah's ark, or the Buddha walking on water. The kind some people take literally, and some people don't." I said before Sophie could answer.
They turn to me shocked. "How do you know this?" Rebekah asks.
I shrug before replying. "I have been here awhile. and occasionally helped with what witchy powers I have. and I definitely dont do that anymore, after what happened."
"They had the girls of our community preparing for months. Four would be choosen for the Harvest. They said that it was an honor, that they were special. I thought it was a myth." Sophie said explaining what I meant by: after what happened. I nodded in agreement, I thought it was a myth to.
"Was it?" Rebekah asks curiously. Sophie looks guilty, but before she can say anything, Klaus's cell phone rings. He picks it up--it's Marcel.
"Marcel. Bit early in the day for you, isn't it?" I decide to listen in so I can see what Marcel wants.
"I know, I make this look easy, but I still have an empire to run."
"Rather you than me. All that responsibility seems like such a bore."
"Well, this might spice things up. I just heard about a bunch of dead witches out in the bayou. The kinda damage a werewolf might do, only there was no full moon. I have an informant out there I need to meet and I would love for you to go with me."
"Dead witches in the bayou. Sounds like less of a problem, and more like a cause for celebration."
"Well, something killed them. And may still be out there. And with your blood the only cure for a werewolf bite, I would love for you to accompany me." Hayley then come to the room wearing the necklace I gave her and she listen to the convo.
"Oh, why not? Haven't been to the bayou in ages. I'm on my way."
"Peace out, brother." They hang up. Klaus then explains what marcel asked him to Sophie and Hayley.
"You can't go out there now. I need to gather the witches' remains and consecrate them. If I don't get to them before sundown, we'll lose the link to their magic." Sophie argues.
"Those witches tried to kill Hayley. I'd prefer for Marcel's informant not to find anything that would lead him back to us, to them, or to... you know," points at Hayley's stomach, "that."
"You are all class." Hayley remarks and i stifle a laugh.
Klaus then points at Sophie. "Stay put. And save the rest of your story 'til I return." He then vamp speds out.

I knew Hayley was going to head out to the bayou as well as Sophie neither listen quite frankly its funny. so, I decided to go with Hayley and go to Sophie. when we find Sophie she is in the cemetery, packing a little bottle into her backpack, and we enter the mausoleum.
"Hey. What the hell?" Sophie asks not liking us being here.
"You're going out there anyway, aren't you? we wanna go with you." I ask then say.
"No, thanks. Already got assaulted by Klaus this morning. Don't need a repeat." I giggle at that because that was pretty hilarious.
"What if whatever is responsible for all those dead witches is still out there? We've already established that it likes us and hates witches, so you'll be safer with us." Hayley says trying to convince the witch.
"Sorry if I'm not buying your sudden concern for my safety." sophie says trying to exit but Hayley and I block the exit, forcing Sophie to stop.
"Listen. The whole reason we came to this stupid town in the first place was to learn more about our families." We once had a chat about how I have gotten here and why I have stayed since I already knew her reasons. "Your sister's the one that told me Marcel ran the werewolves out of the Quarter, into the bayou. And, last night, I'm pretty sure that some guardian-angel-wolf saved our life. So, we're coming with you."
Rebekah then walks in to the mausoleum and joins us. "Could you three be more idiotic?" I nodded my head with a sarcastic smile while Sophie and Hayley sigh. Honestly we most definitely can be more idiotic.
"Two can play the follow-game, you know! You heard Klaus, he and Marcel are headed right where you're going." Rebekah exlaims.
"So distract them." hayley says simply. "Because unless you wanna lock a hormonal, pregnant werewolf and her bestfriend in a tomb, we're coming with you. And wouldn't Elijah be mad if he hears that the baby, aphrena and I died of asphyxiation?" Rebekah stares at us, annoyed. Sophie rolls her eyes and sighs again, resigned to having us all tag along.

After Rebekah's phone call to klaus about stalling we went out to the bayou to look for the dead witches.
"So, this Harvest thingy-tell me more." Rebekah says breaking the silence.
"Klaus said to wait."
"Yes. He also said to stay out of the bayou and yet here we are, amongst the crawly, buzzy creatures." Rebekah retorts.
I see that we have reached the bodies and speak up, "We're here." Sophie, who looks sick, kneels down to dig around her bag for the ingredients she needs to consecrate her fellow witches.
"Whoa." Hayley says making me look where she is looking to see a huge pawprint in the mud. In a nearby tree, there are three bloody scratches in the bark.
"Is that a wolf track?" Sophie asks. we hear a crunching noise, like footsteps, nearby.
Rebekah calls out, "Who's there?" The person approaching them is a male vampire - Marcel's informant, Tomas.
"What the hell? An Original?" He then runs away with vampire speed, leaving the girls standing and gaping.
The last thing I hear is Rebekah say "I'm on my way." From the phone. She speeds off and me and Hayley look around while Sophie does what she came here to do.

We were now walking back and It's night time, Hayley, Sophie and i are returning to Sophie's truck. finally.
"Those people, all this, because of a vision about my baby you don't think is true?" Hayley asks breaking the silent walk. i just decide to keep quite think about how different things have gotten in the span of 8 months.
"Look, I love Sabine, but she's the witch equivalent of a drama queen. I've learned to take little stock in whatever she says or sees. Just kinda wish she'd kept her mouth shut."
"The Harvest ritual. You said you didn't believe in it. Were you right?" She asks.
"No. I saw it with my own eyes. It was working. It was real." Real or not i dont like what they did.
"So, how can you be so sure Sabine's vision isn't?" Sophie doesn't have an answer because honestly she cant really know no one can.

Rebekah pours several drinks as she talks to me and Hayley. "I don't care if we have to get you two a leash, that was your last trip to the bayou. What is it with you and those wolves, anyway?" she asks us.
"I feel like we're connected somehow." i say.
"I don't know. Maybe it's just some pipe dream that I have of finding any real family out there. But sometimes, when I feel like it's me against the world, it keeps me going." I hug hayley from the side showing her she will always have me. Rebekah gives Hayley a sympathetic look and hands her a drink. Hayley side-eyes her, and Rebekah suddenly remembers that Hayley is pregnant and can't drink, so she hands me the drink and I down the glass in one gulp, and then she drinks her own.
"Oh, right. Well, if you ask me, family is a pain in the behind." me and Hayley rolls our eyes, we disnt have much of a family we had eachother and that wasnt bad. "And as for being in it alone, how dare you? I don't ruin a perfectly fabulous pair of boots traipsing through the bayou for just anyone." We smile, and Rebekah downs her second drink. Their conversation is interrupted by Klaus walking through the front door.
"Nik, finally. What-" She is cut off when Elijah walks through the door after his brother with a huge smile. My face lights up at his return and Rebekah runs to Elijah and hugs him tight. Elijah sees me over Rebekah's shoulder, and we smile at each other, though Hayley and I leave the room right after to give them a moment.
Hayley and I split I went outside while she went to her room.
"You're back." I say as I feel Elijah's presence next to me.
"I'm back." He confirms. we look at each other for a moment, and then I slap him in the face.
"Don't make promises you can't keep. Welcome home." Elijah touches his face where I slapped him, and smiles to himself. I then pulled him into a hug. "Don't ever leave me here with them again." I say jokingly.
We pulled away and I stared at him a bit longer. "I will try." Elijah says. I look down at his lips then back at his eyes. We leaned in but pulled myself away.
"I should, um, check on Hayley. i'm glad your back." I smile at him before leaving him out there alone. Dear lord I almost kissed him! AWKWARD...

Everyone who lives here is sitting in the study, where Elijah stands behind the desk and explains everything that he has learned from Davina that day. "Everything that brought us here to New Orleans was a lie. This story that Sophie Deveraux fabricated, this struggle for control of the French Quarter, this war between vampires and witches, wasn't over territory at all, this was over Davina." I feel slightly bad that I didn't tell them but Davina is just to young for all this and knowing Klaus, he wants her. At least now I don't have to tell them.
"Eight months ago, Sophie Deveraux and her sister Jane-Anne lost everything. Now, four months after that, a young pregnant girl wanders into their restaurant. Suddenly, all hope is renewed. Jane-Anne actually sacrificed her life so that her sister can use you to find Davina. If Sophie Deveraux is successful in capturing Davina, she can return Jane-Anne's daughter back to life. We thought we'd come here to wage a war for power. This is about family. In order to return her niece to life, Sophie Deveraux will fight to the death. That makes her more dangerous than anyone."
