23. Passed Out
•Funeral•
The French Quarter threw an Irish-style wake in Father Kieran's honor at Rousseau's, complete with Irish music, lots of alcohol, and tons of people who have gathered to share stories of the late priest and celebrate his life.
Aphrena and Hayley entered Rousseau's for Father Kieran's wake. The doppelgänger looked around with a raised brow at the lively bar. Aphrena nor Hayley had ever seen people so happy during a wake. Aphrena spotted Klaus and Elijah and started walking over to them.
Elijah noticed the girl and smiled at her. "I will warn you, Hayley, Niklaus is in a spectacularly foul mood today." Elijah warned the girl as the two sat in between them.
Klaus glared at his older brother, tiredly. "Sod off."
"Are you okay?" Hayley asked her soulmate. He kept his eyes off her as an unsettling feeling lied in his stomach, flashes of her and Aphrena dead swimming through his mind. Hayley noticed his discomfort and decided to change the topic. "So the reason we're here. What's the deal with these moonlight rings?" She asked. "Oliver's trying to set a revolution every five seconds. People are scared, angry, and frankly, we are tired of stalling."
"It's a day of peace, Hayley. Try and enjoy it. And, in the meantime, with all manner of unknown enemies conspiring against our family, you two will be moving back in with us, permanently. No going back and fourth for long periods of time and definitely no staying out there for good." He told them.
"Yeah." She scoffed as Aphrena put her head on Elijah's shoulder reeling from the dream she had woken up from. "Okay. Then, we can do that thing where you lock us in the compound, we escape, there's drama, and then you two both realize we are very capable of looking after ourselves."
"The rings are in progress." Klaus told her with a frustrated look on his face. "I will live up to my word. We will find and punish whoever launched the attack on the Bayou, and you two will return to the compound for your own safety!" Aphrena sighed and Elijah swiftly rubbed her back. "But, right now." He grabbed his bottle of scotch. "I'm gonna finish this bottle." He opened the bottle as Elijah and Aphrena exchange a glance. "And the next, in the hopes of drowning the demon who has chosen today to haunt me." He looked up at the ceiling before chugging right from the bottle. "Cheers, Mikael. Impeccable, Freudian timing."
Aphrena frowned and lifted her head as Elijah looked at his young brother with a stunned expression. "Elaborate." Aphrena and Hayley looked between her the two brothers in concern. "Have you dreamt of our father?" He asked.
"Go ahead, have a good laugh." Klaus said with a sigh following immediately after.
"Nik I can assure you there is no piece of this that I find even remotely amusing." Aphrena started with seriousness in her voice as Klaus, Elijah, and Hayley looked at her. "Especially since I've been dreaming of him, too."
"As have I." Elijah admitted.
"What?" Klaus asked shocked.
"If you are also seeing him..." He stopped mid-thought when he noticed Genevieve enter Rousseau's. She caught his eye, and smiled. "Perhaps our elusive, unknown enemy is orchestrating a further attack?" He asked standing up.
Klaus looked over at Genevieve. "Well, then. What better way to punctuate a day of peace than by killing someone."
He and Eiljah continue to look at Genevieve as Klaus smiled and waved at her.
Hayley rolled her eyes at the red head before standing up with Aphrena. "Well we have somewhere to be." The doppelgänger told them. "Good luck boys."

Hayley and Aphrena sat on Francesca's front porch, waiting for Francesca and her bodyguard to return home.
Within minutes of showing up they see Francesca walking toward her house, her attention on her phone. When the human looked up to see the two she groaned, and tried to be as polite as possible.
"Ah. Aphrena and Hayley, right? I'm guessing you're not here because you want to make a new friend?"
"We don't count terrorists as friends." Aphrena told her, standing up with Hayley to face her.
Francesca chuckled, and turned to her bodyguard. "Wow. I've been accused of everything from grand larceny to blackmail, but "terrorist," that's new!"
"A human pulled up to our home in the Bayou on a motorcycle and blew himself up," Hayley sneered as she crossed her arms.
"I heard. Awful," Francesca said and held her hand out to her bodyguard, who handed her the keys to her house. "Goodnight!"
The human walked past Hayley and Aphrena who looked at each other with an annoyed look as her bodyguard tried to escort them away. Aphrena rolled her eyes at the man and took a step back before stretching her arm out and slamming the bodyguards head into a birdbath, knocking him out.
Francesca stared at the the doppelgänger in shock for a moment before smiling fakely at them.
The two smiled back. "Word on the street is, he owed a hundred grand to the Palace Royale casino! And then, after he died, the debt was erased." Aphrena snapped her fingers with a mocking look on her face. "Just like magic."
"Jeff was a fixture at my roulette table. Sometimes he was up, sometimes he was down. I absolved his family of the debt he owed out of the goodness of my heart." The woman explained.
Hayley rose an eyebrow at her as Aphrena glared at her skeptically, and Francesca shrugged. "Feel free to sniff around. My hands are clean!" Francesca said. "And, I'd advise you two to mind your manners. It's lucky either of you are still alive. And you, the little doppelgänger, the first tribrid known to supernatural, you're the one the wolves all whisper about like royalty. If I was interested in hurting the wolves, you'd definitely be my target." She smiled even wider. "And, when I go after someone? I don't miss."
"You don't want to make an enemy of me Francesca. It won't end well for you." Aphrena threatened the woman before walking away with Hayley leaving her with her unconscious bodyguard.
As the two walked toward the compound Monique appeared behind a tree several feet behind them, and started to cast a spell on the girls and their babies.
"Purger l'interieur, entiendre la lumiere-" The teen witch stabbed the poppets representing Hayley and Aphrena in the stomach with a pin. "-dans cette f-"
Aphrena sensed something weird, but couldn't figure out what it was and she placed a hand in her stomach instinctively.
"Are you okay?" Hayley asked her.
"Yeah. I'm fine." She assured her younger sister and wrapped her coat around her tightly before continuing walking home, not noticing Monique behind them. "You?"
"Just peachy."

Hundreds of community members gather in the streets of the French Quarter after the funeral as Father Kieran's casket was placed in a horse carriage to begin the parade in his honor. The funeral procession walked down the street to the sounds of the jazz music being played, behind the priests acting as pallbearers for Father Kieran.
Near the end of the parade, Klaus, Elijah, Aphrena, and Hayley stood side by side as they walked down the street. The two girls looking extremely flushed, and coughing in fits.
"You alright?" Elijah asked worriedly as he glanced at the girl he loved. "You look-"
"-like a whale who's pissed off at everyone?" She asked with a raised eyebrow. "Done with life? And everyone in it?"
Elijah smiled at her humor. "I was going to say you look lovely."
Hayley noticed Francesca a couple yards in front of them, who pretended to wipe her tears from her face with a tissue.
"Do you think Aphrena and I were the target of those bombings?" Hayley asked both brothers, remembering what the Correa woman said to them last night.
"Of course you two were the targets!" Klaus exclaimed. "Were I to wage a war on the wolves, you'd be my first kills!" Aphrena glared at him unamused. "I would string you up, for all your worshipers to see."
"I believe that was my brother's way of telling you he'd like you both to return home with us." Elijah told them softly before talking to Klaus. "Perhaps try a different approach, Niklaus, with fewer references to murder?"
"As much as I would hate to throw you both over my shoulder, and drag you kicking and screaming to the compound, we both know I will." He smiled. "For the sake of the children."
"One horrid dream, and suddenly, you want to be a responsible daddy." Hayley mumbled giving him a side glance. "Why so attentive now?"
Klaus wrapped his arm around Hayley and pulled her close, leaving Elijah and Aphrena standing beside them.
Klaus leaned down to whisper into her ear causing her to shiver slightly. "Let me put this into perspective: my father lived to torment me. It is not my intention to become him. This cycle of misery ends with my child."
"Mmm." She smiled before yanking his arm away from her. "You forgot one thing in your little attempt to plead your case- she's not just your child. She's ours."
Aphrena noticed the tone in her sisters voice and immediately followed her when she started to walk away.
"Very heartfelt, Niklaus," Elijah said sarcastically with an amused smile on his face.
"I bloody hate funerals." The hybrid muttered with a worn out look.
Aphrena spotted Cami walking near the front of the procession, and walked faster with Hayley to catch up with her.
"Cami!"
"Aphrena, Hayley, hi."
"Hi, I know it doesn't help much-" Hayley coughed and cleared her throat. "And it won't change what happened to him but I'm sorry about your uncle. He was really... good to people like me during the storm, and I really appreciated that."
"Thank you," Camille said before realizing they might want something. "You want something, do you?"
"Sorry Cami." Aphrena chimed in. "I know it's not really good timing but... I was just wondering, if before he died, he said anything weird about Francesca Correa? I think that she may have been involved in an attack in the Bayou. If you hear anything-"
The human nodded. "I'm trying- mostly failing- to stay out of all this stuff, but... she's a real bitch. And if she was involved with hurting your people then yeah, if I hear anything, I'll let you both know."
"Thanks." The wolf smiled at her.
"And again, sorry about your uncle." Aphrena told her with a sad look.
As Aphrena walked away with Hayley she started to cough, and feel woozy. She leaned against a lightpost as she began to cough up blood. Horrified, she continued to cough. She looked up at Hayley to see her not doing so well either.
Genevieve who noticed the girl's condition started shouting for the Mikaelson men as she rushed toward the two.
Klaus and Elijah quickly turn hearing their names being called and their eyes widen when they see Aphrena try and magically help Hayley before collapsing on the sidewalk followed by Hayley.
•••
Klaus carried Hayley while Elijah carried Aphrena. Once they got into the compound Klaus and Elijah laid them on two tables that sat close to each other but not touching. Genevieve trailed behind them all, in hopes of helping.
"I can help-"
Elijah pushed her away from the table. "Don't you touch them!"
Klaus glanced at Elijah with a worried expression. "Let it be, Elijah. She was a nurse."
"There's a spell I can do. Klaus, get chamomile from the pantry." The redhead looked at the two, who were barely conscious. "Hayley's trembling. Your jacket, Elijah."
Elijah quickly removed his jacket and laid it over the wolf. "They're not breathing, I can hear the babies heartbeat, but not theirs," Elijah said as Genevieve checked Hayley's pulse then Aphrena's.
Aphrena and Hayley woke up on tables in the compound but the room wascompletely empty, except for one other person- Mikael. He walked toward them, and the two automatically got off the table and backed away from him.
"W- Who are you-?"
Mikael smirked looking at their stomach before looking at her blue eyes. "I suppose I'm your family now."
Genevieve pressed two damp bundles of chamomile against the twins foreheads and chanted a spell in French/Creole.
"Coeur blessé, battre avec mwen. Coeur blessé, battre avec mwen."
Klaus, frustrated and scared, bit into his wrist and dribbles in into Hayley's mouth in hopes that it will heal her. "Come on!" Klaus yelled and looked at Elijah in fear when nothing happened.
"They're still not breathing. It's not working!" Elijah yelled as he angrily threw a nearby table against the brick wall, shattering it into pieces.
Hayley and Aphrena slowly backed away, frightened as Mikael approached them.
"This is a nightmare." Aphrena squeezed her eyes tightly hoping he would disappear. "I'm dreaming. This has to be a dream. You're not real."
"On the contrary, my darling- this is very real." Aphrena opened her eyes at his words and turned around to push Hayley and run but he vamp-sped over to them and put her in a headlock causing her to gasp in fright.
"Welcome to my hell- stuck in an eternity of watching over that hideous creature my children call brother!" He snarled viscously at her. Hayley tried to hit him but he just took one arm from Aphrena and restrained her against him.
"You're dead! How can I be here?" Hayley paused a moment as she realized where she was. "Oh my god! No!" She yelled as the two thrashed around in his grip.
"Oh my. No!" Aphrena yelled in panic at the thought of losing her child for good this time. There would be no going back this time. "The babies!"
"The babies?" He asked, humor in his deep voice. "Those kids never had a chance! And as if your bloodline isn't filth enough, you, Hayley, poison it by merging it with Klaus'?" He laughed manically. "The deathless vermin, fancying himself a daddy?"
Aphrena eyes turned into the pinkish purple glow, and she yelled as she lifted her hand and gave him a migraine getting both her and her sister out of his grip. She then broke his arm by twisting it behind his back. While Mikael was distracted by Aphrena, Hayley picked up a coat rack and swung it at his head with all the force she could muster.
"They are not dead!" Hayley yelled at him. "We are not dead! If we were dead, you wouldn't be trying to kill us!"
Elijah and Klaus paced at the twins bedside as Genevieve continued to work her spell.
"Coeur blessé, battre avec mwen."
Elijah started to get impatient and went to pick up Aphrena. "I'm taking them to a real doctor."
Genevieve shook her head in disagreement and quickly stopped him. "If you move them from here, my spell will break. There won't be enough time to get them to a hospital."
"Will the babies survive if delivered now?" Klaus asked looking frantic. "I'll get it out of them myself!" Elijah quickly blocked Klaus from touching either girls as he glared at him.
"They will bleed to death!" Genevieve yelled at the hybrid.
"I won't lose our children." He told them as the fear in his eyes grew more and more.
"We won't lose either of them."
"Battre avec mwen. Coeur blessé, battre avec mwen." She muttered before getting sucked into a vision of Monique using the poppet to cast the spell on the girls. She came back to reality and her eyes grew wide in shock. "I know what to do. Get my bag, the gris-gris pouch! Now!" She yelled with urgency in her voice. Genevieve dabbed two pieces of wet cloth on their heads. "You're not dying yet."
Aphrena watched fearfully as Mikael stood up from the ground while grunting in pain. "You're dead, Mikael. Your son already beat you!"
"He is not my son!" He bellowed looking absolutely furious. "He's a scourge, a walking symbol of weakness!"
Genevieve poured salt around Aphrena and Hayley on the table and crushed some herbs with her fingers and spread them over the girl's body.
Hayley kicked at the banister to the staircase to break off a piece of wood to use as a stake, and made her way up the stairs with Aphrena as Mikael continued to stalk them menacingly.
"There is no saving those atrocities festering in your wombs. Theu will destroy them, one way or another. Better they die now, and you along with them!" Mikael yelled as he jumped up onto the second floor balcony, startling the pregnant wolves.
Hayleu quickly jumped down onto the first floor while Aphrena chanted a short spell to knock Mikael off his feet and jump down to where Hayley stood. Once Mikael found his footing he jumped down and followed them. Hayley spun around fast and rushed behind him, stabbing him in the heart with the stake from behind.
Mikael screamed in pain as Aphrena used her magic to push him down to his knees.
Hayley stood over him with a damgerous look in her eyes. "Our daughters have an advantage Klaus never had- they will never, ever know you."
Hayley and Aphrena woke with a loud gasp on the table, Klaus' blood still covering Hayley's mouth and neck. Elijah helped the Aphrena sit up while Klaus helped Hayley.
"You're alright, my love. You're alright." He told her softly.
"It's okay, Rena. You're safe now." Elijah assured her but she still looked quite shaken.
"We saw him. He tried to kill us." Aphrena's breath caught in her throat for a moment. "We saw Mikael."
Mikael groaned when he was magically thrown backwards and into a wall.
"Don't you ever harm my best friend again, father."
•••
Aphrena who was now cleaned off and had on pajamas, sat on her bed, staring at the wall and thinking, when Klaus approached her room.
"Aphrena." The doppelgänger nodded her head for him to come in and he happily obliged. "How is she?"
"We're fine." She smiled softly at him.
"You've proved quite resilient, little doppelgänger. You're a fighter, you both are."
"I think we've had to be. Especially lately." She looked down at her hands before looking back at him. "I think it's time that we move back in for good."
"Well, I'm glad to hear it."
"But no bodyguards and definitely no telling me what to do. I'm a big girl."
"All I ask is that the children are kept safe. Now I already showed Hayley while I was wiring for you to get done so would you come with me? I want to show you something."
Aphrena nodded and followed the hybrid to another room in the compound.
Klaus opened the door which revealed a room he had set up to be a nursery, complete with a crib, a bassinet, and a cute mobile hanging from the ceiling, among other things. To the side of the room was an adjoining door to another room he sat up for his child.
Aphrena stared in surprise as she took everything in.
"I just would like you to know that I would love for you and Hayley to be here. Our daughters should be raised by her parents, in their family home."
Aphrena smiled before she looked down at the crib that would soon inhabit her baby. "It's beautiful Nik. Thank you."
"Oh don't thank me. Elijah helped with this room. He knows what you'd like better than I. He just went out to get you something to eat and said it was okay for me to show you."
"Oh." She continued to smile. "Well you guys did an amazing job."
Nik chuckled nervously and paused for a moment. "Uh, you said you saw my father?"
"Why do you call him that?" She asked confused. "He's not your real dad."
"He's done damage only a father could do. What did he tell you?"
"Nothing that is true." Klaus considered this for a moment, and then genuinely smiled before going to leave the room. "Wait Klaus." He turned back to her and she let out a sigh. "Thank you. For being there for Hayley. And me."
Aphrena looked at the wall as Klaus left and looked over the painting Nik made of a single dining star near a large crescent moon with the reflection in the deep blue water below.

Aphrena stood on her balcony watching the party winding down when Hayley stepped to her side.
"Did you like the nursery?" Hayley asked breaking the silence.
"Of course. Lijah knows me a little to well. And I'm sure you loved it. Am I correct?"
Hayley nodded her head. "Of course. It seems they put a lot of thought into it." Suddenly Hayley sensed Elijah and excused herself to give them privacy. Aphrena smiled when Elijah stood beside her. "You know if I died and someone threw a party, I would be so mad. I'd probably come back from the dead just to drive them crazy."
"You almost did," Elijah said as he walked closer. "In a thousand years, I can't recall a time I felt so... frightened."
Aprena said nothing for a moment and Elijah took that as his cue to leave. "Elijah." She stopped him. He turned around and was brought into a hug by the blonde. "I'm okay. But thank you for worrying."
He stepped closer to her with a slight smile playing on his lips. "I will always worry." He chuckled. "You worry me."
She laughed slightly and stared into his dark eyes adoringly. "I saw the nursery. It's beautiful Lijah. I love it..." she muttered before he pulled her in for a deep, knee weakening kiss.
I'm tired. Sorry if there are mistakes. Hope you enjoyed.
Please check out Wolf Queen.
It is more of a Klaus fic but she's with Ty and Lijah and Kol like her. It's a mess to explain but if you read it you might like it.
