18. Getting The Cure
•Tied Up•
Hayley called and told me what happened to Nik. Basically he got Papa tunde's blade stuck in his chest by Elijah to stop him from hurting Rebekah. So she said she was going to stay with him and help Elijah while I do what needs to be done for our pack.
That leads us to now where Celeste - who is still possessing Sabine's body - has her hands tied in front of her as she leans back against a tree. Me and Eve stand in front of her, our rifles aimed at her, while the rest of our clan - still stuck in wolf form - surrounds the nasty witch.
I rip tape of of her mouth and Celeste clearly frustrated says, "So what's this, payback? Look. I'm sorry I tricked you. I wasn't after you."
"What, and we were just collateral damage?" A wolf growls as Eve continues, "You almost burned her and Jackson alive in that plantation fire." Eve says angrily.
Celeste struggles against the ropes to free herself as I fire a warning shot near her. "Careful, Sabine, or Celeste or whatever you like to call yourself. Sudden moves make me jumpy." I cock my gun again. "And homicidal."
"What, you're gonna kill me, honey?" She mocks.
"No. Although I wish I could, I know better." The wolves behind me growl. "See, I know all about you. I know that you like to off yourself and then jump into other people's bodies. Well, that's not gonna happen here. I know I can't kill you, but try hexing me, and my friend Eve here will kneecap you. Go for her, and then, well, I'll really make you hurt. After all you have done, I would gladly do it."
"So, what do you want?" She asks annoyed.
"Back in the 90's, you inhabited a witch named Brynne Deveraux, remember? Marcel had her - you - put a curse on a lot of werewolves so they'd only turn human on a full moon."
"I see. Yes. That was me. Let me guess. You want revenge."
"No, you stupid wench. I want you to undo the curse." Celeste smiles smugly and I roll my eyes.

3RD POV
Celeste sits against a tree stump. Though her hands are still tied together, she has managed to mix together some herbs into a mason jar.
"Here." Aphrena takes the jar from her and looks at it. "It's herbs ground into paste. It'll act as a conduit for the spell. On the next full moon, your people become human. Feed it to them, the curse will be broken." She explains.
The brunette narrows her eyes at her and says, "Great way to poison us all at once."
Celeste sighs and says, "Look. I know you have no reason to trust me, but, Aphrena, I actually like you." I have not been nice to her once and she still likes me? "I was you, caring for Elijah when he cared more for his brother, and I ended up dead. So did a lot of others. This, call it a chance for me to give you what I was too in love to give myself. It's a chance to free yourself from the Originals." She says trying to convince her but She don't care for her advice.
"He is my mate. I am carrying his baby. I have absolutely no desire to leave him."
"You believe her?" Eve questions unsure.
A wolf growls behind her. Suddenly, Elijah appears and joins them.
"Whatever she's promised you, it's a lie." He says quickly not wanting his mate to fall for his ex-lovers lies.
"Elijah, it's okay. I'm okay." The doppelgänger says softly.
"She cannot be trusted."
"She's the only one that can help my pack."
"Do you have any idea what she has done to our family?"
I walk closer to him and lower my voice, "I know you want revenge, and come the next full moon, when I'm sure her cure works, she's all yours."
"Are you suggesting that we hold her-- her-- captive for an entire month? It would take an army."
"And I've got one." The wolves howl in agreement, and Aphrena smiles happily at them. "So help me or get out of my way."
Elijah pauses only for a moment before he vamp-speeds over to his mate grabs the mason jar and Celeste, making Aphrena gasp as he disappears leaving her shocked. He stops far enough away from the werewolves that he and Celeste are all alone. He then throws her against the tree as he clutches the jar of herb paste in one hand.
Elijah looks at his ex furiously while holding the mason jar up and says, "You tricked her."
"It's no trick. You're holding the cure for Aphrena's clan in your hand. If her wolves take that elixir, the curse is no more. They're free."
"You condemned her people to decades of agony, and now you just break the curse without so much as a whimper. Why?" Elijah asks confused with her sudden helpfulness.
"Because it's the best thing I could do for her, and it's the worst possible thing I could do to you." Celeste says while pushing off the tree.
"What are you saying?"
"That, no matter what happens now, you've lost her. You destroy that jar, you kill me, Aphrena will hate you for snatching her family from her. Now, if you give her the jar, we both know that she'll leave you in the end to be with them, and I know that as long as she's alive and happy and fulfilled in ways that you can't even imagine, then I get my revenge. So, you decide. Give her everything she's ever wanted and lose her or deny it, see what happens then."
Aphrena would never want to leave her mate but Celeste is very good at planting doubt and Elijah can't help but wonder if his little mate would leave him for her family. And if she did, would it really be so bad? She'd be happy and with her true family.

Elijah and Celeste return to the Bayou where Aphrena was waiting for them seated on a log. She is alone, with the exception of Jackson, who has stayed behind, though still in his wolf-form. He had his head in her lap as she pet his head.
"You came back." Aphrena says happily. Jackson moves his head as she stands up to walk over to her mate. Jackson bows his head sad that the girl he wants loves another.
"I'll always come back. Take it. It will work." Aphrena grins widely while taking hold of the jar.
"Eve and I will round up as many of our people as we can. Come full moon, I can finally free mine and Hayley's family."
She wraps her arms around Elijah's shoulder's. "Aphrena..." He says as they pull back, they lean in and share a quick kiss, one that still sends sparks down their body. Elijah leans his forehead on hers before apeaking again, "I wonder if they have any idea how lucky they are to have you."
Aphrena looks at Jackson before looking back at Elijah and smiled lovingly at him before walking back to the encampments with Jackson in the lead, leaving Elijah and Celeste alone again.
"Mmm. That was touching, such a chaste, little kiss. The Elijah I knew was never so meek."
"Well, the Celeste I knew was never so cruel. What is it that you want? What's your end game?" He asks turning to her.
"Oh, this game never ends, Elijah. We're both immortal, you know."
"Then what's the point if you can't possibly win?"
Celeste smirks at him and says, "But, I have. Your losing the girl, because you were so desperate to save your family. And now, your family lies in ruins."
"My family, despite all that you have done, will heal in time."
"If you had the time, maybe. But, do you really think Rebekah ran far and fast from here? I bet she didn't."
"She's long gone."
"Is she? She's with Marcel. Now, Marcel loves Davina. Davina is dead, but she could come back under the right circumstances."
"They wouldn't dare."
"If you hadn't been so worried about Aphrena, you might have figured it out sooner. But, you know who did have the time to think about it? Your brother. I wonder what he'll do."
Elijah grabs Sabine by the neck and vamps out. Celeste easily dares him, "Heh. Do it."
Elijah bites into her neck and viciously feeds on her.
•••
"I'm too pregnant to be running after these damned originals."
"Hayley? What's going on?"
"Klaus."
"After Rebekah again."
"Im getting to the Lafayette cemetery. I'm doing my best to help them here, what about you?"
"Oh, yeah. I got what we need for our pack."
•••
"I know you may be upset with me...but...Davina is awake and she requested to see you."
"She's alive!"
"Very much so. Would you like to come see her?"
"Yes!"
"Meet her at St. Anne's."
"On my way." Aphrena hangs up and walks over to Eve. "Hey a friend of mine...needs me. I will be back I just really need to see her."
"Ok. Be safe." She smiles at the doppelgänger and the doppelgänger heads out to see her little kitten again.
•••
"Davina!" She yell out. When she comes into the doppelgängers view she runs to her and engulfs her in a hug.
"I missed you so much, luna." She heard her voice break and she pulled away wiping the tears off her face.
"You're here. You're really here." Aphrena smiled at her and pulled her into another hug.
"It was so scary." She snifles. "It was dark and lonely. I would just be there wishing to see you again and have our talks or be in your embrace. I missed you so so much."
"You're here now. I don't plan on letting you get hurt again, Kitten."
Aphrena kissed her forehead and held her close.
•••
Rebekah - who found out about Aphrena's new condition from Elijah - makes a pit-stop to the Bayou before leaving town, and joins Aphrena outside, where she's enjoying a bonfire.
"Bekah, what are you doing here?" Aphrena says with an innocent smile.
"I came to say goodbye." Rebekah says sadly. Just when her best friend has her memory back she has to leave.
"What happened to us girls sticking together?" The doppelgänger asks the mood dimming slightly.
"Well, Nik and I came to a sort of all-or-nothing arrangement. I leave town for good, and he allows me to. Can't pass that up."
Aphrena laughs sadly. "A thousand years with Nik? I guess you deserve a few vacation days, right?"
"Listen. Elijah told me about my little niece. I'm happy you're back and I'm happy Elijah get's the chance to become a father. And speaking of your child-- our family has no shortage of enemies. She will inherit all of them. Please, be careful." She says softly.
"You know, you can always come back and visit." Aphrena says with a mischievous grin. "I've been known to keep a secret or two from Nik."
"Well, if I can't, you make sure to tell that little girl stories of her crazy Auntie Bex. And let her know, despite my absence, I do love her very much."
"Remember Bex. Our good-bye is see you later. So, I'll see you later Bekah." The doppelgänger smiles at her and pulls her into a hug.
"Yeah...see you later Rena." A lone tear falls down Aphrena's face as her sister pulls out of the hug and walks away.
