School whhhhyyy

{Dusk's POV}

"I'm going to what?" I asked, completely dumbfounded.

"School," Fierre Goldsong, my mother, replied tiredly. "Your aunt Edith is sending you."

Okay, first of all, why would our rich aunt Edith take the time to send ME to school and second, WHAT was SCHOOL?

"In case you don't know," Fierre said, almost reading my mind, "School is where you learn things with other people."

Say what? No. These days were a continuous, repetitive cycle: wake up, hunt, cook, barter, go home. I think that I would highly prefer shooting my bow and arrow than going to SCHOOl. "Mom, come on," I wheedled. "You know I can't go. You need me to provide food for you."

Fierre rubbed her forehead. "Actually, honey... Rue's already taken up that job for you."

When were the surprising news going to stop? My little sister, Rue, was only TWELVE YEARS OLD. True, I'd begun teaching her the basics, but not enough for her to be ALONE IN THE WOODS!

"But-"

"No buts," Fierre replied. "Auntie has already paid the fee and everything. You leave first thing tomorrow."

Fuming, I stormed to my room. She could've at least ASKED FOR MY OPINION before making that decision!

Now, back in the present next-day morning, I sighed and I stared up at the shaft of sunlight falling in through the window. Sleep had not come to me and I'd spent the majority of the night thinking, thinking, thinking about school. Mom's voice shouted up, "DUSK! SCHOOL!"

Sighing, I rose out of bed and dressed quickly in an unassuming outfit-tan shirt, light brown sweater, forest-green leggings. I tucked my long red-bronze hair up into a cap, to not draw attention.

Snarfing down a light breakfast, I slid into boots, grabbed my bag full of pre-packed school supplies (all supplied by Auntie, of course) and raced out the door. "Bye Mom! Bye Rue!" Rue was probably out hunting, like the good girl she is already. I hope it goes okay.

It turned out that school was close enough that I could walk there-only a couple streets away. I arrived there five minutes early.

The school was Lakewood Middle School. It was wide and sprawling and quite intimidating. I took a deep breath in, sent a silent prayer to heaven that I wouldn't mess up... and walked in.

Okay, so that's the first chapter! YAYAYA! Hope you enjoy! ^o^
