4: Nobody Adjusts Well
Draco:
What the fuck? That was my reaction when I saw her at the bar. Vivian Riddle. That bitch was back in town. I was just going to turn back around and leave, but Blaise’s eye had already caught me.
“I haven’t seen you in a while,” he greeted me.
“Haven’t came here in a while,” was my reply.
“How have you been, man?”
“Same as always,” which was the bloody truth.
“Huh,” Blaise said looking at Vivian then back at me.
“What was that about?”
“Nothing,” he said rather too quickly, “Ever follow my advice?”
“The advice you give me everytime you see me?” I paused, “Of course not.”
“Man, why not settle down? Fall in love?”
“Because I have everything I need right here,” I then added something else, something that I’ve thought since the girl after Vivian broke my heart, “Besides, falling in love is like falling down that fucking rabbit hole. You never make it back to reality, which means your fucked for life.”
Blaise then looked back over to Vivian and back to me, “Have you not seen the ending to Alice in Wonderland?”
“And you have?” That damn movie was so bloody ridiculous.
“Of course,” He paused for a moment, “Alice makes it back to reality and lives happily ever after with whatever changes she didn’t want to happen.”
“That’s total bull shit, you know that right? Coping with change? Nobody adjusts well,” but I was thinking that since that was the ending, maybe I could manage to take a chance.
“Whatever, man,” he then looked back over at Vivian, “You want to go say hi? I know you saw her.”
“No, thank you.”
“Come on, it’ll be fun.”
“Just to say hi, then,” I knew he was fixing for something. He did it all the time at Hogwarts, trying to get Vivian and I to talk.
“Glad you didn’t slip away,” Blaise said to her.
“You asked me not to, remember?” She eyed me the same way I was eyeing her.
“You remember Draco?” he then patted my back.
“Of course,” she paused, “How have you been?”
“Just bloody well enjoying life,” I produced a fake smile, “What about you?” I can’t believe I was talking to the bitch. She was being so nice, and our eye contact wasn’t shifting a bit. We were still locked together somehow.
“Same,” she then took a sip of her drink, “I’ll be right back,” she then walked off the woman’s loo.
“So, what do you think?” Blaise had ordered another drink.
“She’s alright,” I sat down beside him and ordered a drink for myself.
“Any old feelings resurface?” He was the only person that knew that I had fallen for Vivian.
“No,” I lied.
“Lie,” Blaise could always tell when I was lying, “You did feel something, and she did too.”
“How do you bloody know that?” I was surprised that he thought so.
“Because her eyes were on you as much as yours were on her,” he smiled as Pansy made her way over and kissed him hello.
“Hello, Draco,” she said as she sat down.
“Hey, Pans,” I replied, not wanting to talk to her very much.
“You should totally take her home with you.”
“Now you’re helping him choose his next victim?” Pansy butted into our conversation.
“No, just to talk,” he looked over at her, “Its Vivian Riddle.”
“Oh my God,” Pansy almost choked on her drink, “You should bring her home with you.”
“You can find out why,” Blaise just knew how to make me do something, plus he knew.
“I guess you’re right,” I paused, “You are always right.”
“I know,” he said as he pulled Pansy away as Vivian made her way back over.
“Was that Pansy?” She asked me.
“Yeah,” I told my weak self to just take a chance; Blaise is always telling you to, “You want to get out of here?” I heard myself ask her.
