Ash and smoke
My mouth felt dry, like it had never tasted water, and a foul odour crept up my nose, familiar, yet unfriendly. I had smelt it only hours before. Blood. For the first time since she had started talking, instead of answering my questions, she asked me one. "Who are you, why are you here?" Evelynn queried. What did I tell her? I had only just my this woman and she was asking for my name. After briefly thinking about whether to answer or not, I finally decided. "I am an elf of mirkwood, best friend to prince legolas, and adopted daughter of Lord Thruandil." My parched mouth was reluctant to talk, but I was sure that if I didn't, the girl would look into my mind again and withdraw all the information that she needed.
The soft covers beside me felt like velvet to my scratched and dirty hands, I longed to rest my head upon the covers. The single match that Evelynn had struck would go out soon, and afterwards, would she have another? Why didn't she put the flame to the wick of a candle, and give us some more light? I wasn't sure that I trusted this lady. Or was she a girl- she could be either. Did I want to see where we were, perhaps she didn't want me to look into her life. A buzzing feeling came over me, it was like I was a bee, and then it stopped. Evelynn had just read my mind again. "I will give you more light if you wish child, only, do not be deceived by what you see." Her voice echoed away into the darkness, leaving me
in, for all I knew, what could be a cave of monsters.(with a bed in the middle of it) A light danced apron the wall opposite me, giving me the perfect opportunity to try and figure out were I was. Was it a house? No, there were no windows. Was it a cave? Possibly- though I could not see the walls. They were lined with every kind of glass jar imaginable. Tall ones, short ones, decorated ones, and long ones. But, what ever the sort of jar, they all held the same thing. Smoke, all grey and heaving in the glass.
I wondered why she had these, the didn't do any thing. And what was it that she had said? "Do not be deceived by what you see." What did that mean. I slowly turned my head around, to look at were Evelynn had disappeared of to. Then, I understood why she had said that.
Legolas P.O.V
After I had been riding for about five minutes, I finally stopped crying. Elves don't do many things. We're not supposed to cry, or feel strong emotions. We only fall in love once in our lives, and only if we are over the age of a hundred. Most of as are only trained in bow and dagger of knife fighting. We don't use swords or slingshots. Our aim is good though, personally, I can hit the bullseye nine out of ten times. Leaiwen is another story though; she told me that she had never used a bow before, and had only been trained in knife fighting. But, when I began to teach her how to use one, she hit the bullseye first time, like she had been using a bow all her life. But I trust that girl, maybe she's just good at using weapons. The trees were beginning to thin out now, I was probably only two days into my journey, and one day away from having traveled through mirkwood. The first time I had done so by my self, I got lost. I was on foot then, and young. I had tried to go and visit Lord Elrond in rivendel, but I arrived two days late.
The trees were turning from green to gold, and time seemed to fly by in mirkwood. Darkness stole silently over the forest, engulfing all in its path. I didn't want to sleep. Every night in this place was a great risk, for things fowler then spiders. Orcs and goblins from Dolgoldur. They hunt anything and anyone that they can, longing for the tast of man flesh. I suddenly felt bad about crying. I was weak when it came to family. My father was abusive sometimes.
"Legolas, I have received a letter from Lord Elrond requesting that I come and attend the council that he is holding, to discuss the matter of Mordor. I wanted you to go, as I am very busy. Please could you leave tomorrow? It will be dangerous, but you are a strong elf legolas, you will live on, no matter what."
"Why do I have to go? What are you busy with? Leaiwen will be so upset, she will try to follow me!"
Leaiwen, leaiwen, leaiwen. You never stop talking about her do you. Friends you may be, but I will forbid you to become anymore then that! You are a prince legolas! You must not love her. Elves fall in love once in their lives! If she is your girl, then dream on lover boy, dream on. If you so much as try to kiss her, then you will feel my wrath!"
By the end of that, Thruandil was shouting, Legolas was cowering, clearly afraid of his father.
"I will not leave Leaiwen! What if I never return? I will miss you so much. But I will not leave here, or her, or you!"
THWACK
The sound of Palm-on cheek echoed through the castle. Thruandil had evidently just hit his son. Legolas lay on the floor, his eyes glassy with tears, but none spilt.
End flash back
My father misses my mother and he's afraid that he'll lose me as well, so you can't blame him. He just loves my mother, he hates orcs as well, they were the cause of her death. And as days bled into weeks, weeks faded into years, I managed to start living my life without her. My father, however, could not let her go.
