「TWENTY 」
Kilo hated leaving Castyr alone after he had just found him. But, Castyr seemed worried about the battle over the Transport Tower, so Kilo took it upon himself to do what he could. It did not take long for the angel to reach the roof of the tower where he had found Castyr just as the star fell of the edge. Kilo's blood boiled within his veins when he saw the thick, red pool gathered at the edge of the roof where the star had stood.
As Kilo landed, the doors to the roof were slammed open, and a new troop of demons emerged from the tower. Kilo swiftly drew Ymir and advanced. The angel teleported into the pack of demons and effortlessly eliminated them in elegant, swinging motions. Bodies fell all around Kilo as he jumped through the doors and landed on the floor below with ease.
A team of angels was fighting a horde of demons just before Kilo. The guardian angel did not hesitate to join the fight; he was elated to serve his fresh revenge of fifty years. With the team and Kilo's combined strengths, the angels were able to overcome the seemingly endless supply of demons after a few hours of combat.
"Who...who are you?" The team's leader inquired of Kilo as the experienced soldier leaned against a wall to catch his breath.
"Lieutenant Kilo, Guardian to Star Castyr." Kilo gave the solider his full title as he greeted the team captain with a short nod.
"Lieutenant Kilo? Guardian to Star Castyr? I've heard about your story." A younger angel gawked at Kilo when he heard the guardian's introduction. "...Wait...St- Star Castyr?" His eyes widened. "Lieutenant Castyr, our Castyr??"
Kilo raised a brow at the younger angel. He was not the biggest fan of the angel's use of the words "our Castyr", but he did not show much reaction aside from the lifted brow.
"So, you're the one he's been looking for!" The younger angel exclaimed as he put two and two together.
"Thank you for your help," Major Azyr said courteously before bowing his head to the guardian angel.
Kilo returned the nod as the younger angel scanned the floor in a panic. "Wait, so where is Castyr? Is he alright? He was supposed to back us up when we reached the highest floor. What happened? Is he safe? Why is he not with you?"
"Destil, I'm sure he's fine. His angel is here," Azyr assured the young angel to calm him. Although Castyr mostly showed annoyance toward Destil, the two had trained together for many years and were actually quite close.
While Azyr worked to assure Destil that his friend was safe, Kilo looked to the dawning horizon. I have been away too long. Seeing the first light breaking into the sky, Kilo walked to the opened edge of the transport floor where the portal once was. In the blink of an eye, Kilo was gone, leaving the team of angels gawking at his unique ability of teleportation.
Castyr was standing near the edge of the roof staring at the city when Kilo reached the building where he had brought the star. Castyr's back faced Kilo as the angel walked up to him.
"Castyr..." Kilo voiced his name after fifty years.
The star immediately turned around and rushed to Kilo, revealing sparkling eyes. Kilo brought Castyr into his arms as the star reached him. He held Castyr dearly. Kilo realized how scared of losing him Castyr must have been when the star clutched the angel's shirt and buried his head into Kilo's neck.
"I told you I'd come back," Kilo voiced softly as he petted Castyr's head comfortingly. It was at that moment that Kilo realized how much Castyr had grown. The star now stood to the tip of Kilo's nose instead of his shoulder. His build had gotten stronger as well.
Castyr looked up at Kilo and wrapped his arms around the angel's neck. Tingles ran down Kilo's spine as Castyr's thumb stroked the back of his neck. Castyr's eyes drooped closed as he gently pulled the angel toward him and pressed his lips to Kilo's. The guardian's hand flowed down Castyr's back to his waist, pulling the star closer and deepening the kiss.
Kilo's heart quickened and butterflies flew through his stomach, but he was incredibly at peace in that moment with Castyr in his arms. The star slipped his hand into Kilo's dark hair as he broke away for air.
"I've missed you," Castyr said softly, his eyes still closed. Love, happiness, and longing filled Kilo as he heard Castyr's words. The angel affectionately pressed his head against Castyr's before pulling the star in for another kiss. This time, Kilo kissed Castyr more passionately and enjoyed the sensation of the star's soft lips. Castyr was glowing by the time Kilo pulled away. A light sense of satisfaction ran through Kilo as he saw the star's glow.
"Don't you be glowing like this for anyone else, okay?" Kilo teased as he rested his forehead on Castyr's.
Castyr's cheeks grew red, and he blushed. "Never. This is only for you," Castyr promised, his lips parting in a bright smile.
Kilo smiled at the star's cuteness and kissed the top of Castyr's nose. On, how he had waited for this! This moment could not have been more perfect. The way Castyr fit in Kilo's embrace was beyond beautiful, and the star's kisses were sweeter than anything Kilo had tasted.
The first rays of the morning sun crept into the sky as the battle was won. Castyr and Kilo stood in each other's arms and watched the sun rise, Kilo's head resting on Castyr's as the star leaned into him. Kilo gazed down at the star as the sun fully rose. Castyr's eyes were drooping heavily; he was exhausted. Kilo gently planted a peck on Castyr's head before lifting the star in his arms. Castyr smiled softly and held onto Kilo's neck before resting his head against Kilo's chest and closing his eyes contently.
Kilo spread his wings and took to the sky with his star safely in his arms. Castyr directed Kilo toward the base as the two eared the Transport Tower. After a few more miles, Kilo followed Castyr's directions and carefully landed just before the massive corporate skyscraper that served as the angels' base. Taking Kilo's hand once his angel set him on his feet, Castyr guided Kilo through the base's defenses and into the underground garage.
Castyr could barely contain his glow as he happily led his angel through the base until they reached the common area where Colonel Ilios stood waiting for the star's return. Kilo instantly recognized the tall, blonde angel as the one who had taken Castyr to Heaven fifty years ago.
"Colonel," Castyr greeted his commanding officer with a salute. Ilios looked up in relief upon hearing Castyr's voice, his eyes quickly moving to the angel who stood beside the star.
Kilo, who had wanted to show his gratitude toward Ilios for several decades, immediately bent his body in a low bow when his gaze met Ilios'. "Thank you for-" Kilo was cut off by Ilios rushing to him and having him stand up straight.
"Thank you for surviving," Ilios said to Kilo. He was truly grateful that Kilo had returned to Castyr. Ilios hated watching Castyr try his best every day to find his angel; he was thankful that Castyr could now rest knowing Kilo was next to him. Once he had sincerely thanked Kilo for surviving those fifty years of torment in Hell, Ilios took a breath, his expression turning hopeful, and asked, "Rae- the officer who stayed...was he taken with you?"
Kilo's heart ached as he stared into Ilios' anxious but hopeful gaze, and he turned his gaze to the ground as he recalled the warrior's valiant struggle to return to Ilios' side. Kilo lowered his head as he replied, "He was taken, but we were held in different places; I do not know where. I am sorry."
Ilios released a breath of relief when he heard Kilo's words. "He's alive..." The angel closed his eyes for a moment as he regained his composure. "Thank you, Lieutenant," Ilios returned gratefully before turning to Castyr and praising the star for his efforts during the battle. "Good job out there. We're having a celebration tomorrow. Wash up and get some rest today. You've worked hard."
The colonel then turned back toward Kilo. "Through all this, I don't think we've been formally introduced." Ilios' expression lightened as he tilted his head in greeting. "I am Colonel Ilios, Castyr's commanding officer, leader of Unit L."
Kilo stood up straight and bowed to the colonel while introducing himself. "Lieutenant Kilo, Guardian to Star Castyr."
"Get some rest, Kilo. You've fought hard." Ilios patted Kilo's shoulder affectionately before turning from the two. Castyr bowed to his commanding officer as Ilios walked away. The colonel's shoulders slumped as he left the angel and star pair. Kilo watched Ilios leave empathetically before he felt Castyr grab his hand and begin leading him to the tent of one of his teammates.
"Major, could I borrow a pair of your clothes?" Castyr asked the person in the tent.
"Castyr? Is that you?" A blue head poked out of the tent upon hearing the star's voice. The man looked up to see Castyr and smiled. "You made it back!" A soldier around Kilo's height exited the tent and embraced Castyr. "Ah, sorry!" The man quickly released his hold around the star when he saw Kilo standing behind Castyr with his arms crossed.
Sensing Kilo's displeasure at seeing another man hugging him, Castyr reminded his teammate of his initial question. "Ermm...Sinjae? Clothes?"
"Ah, yes!" The blue-haired man quickly re-entered his tent before returning with a folded pair of clothes a few moments later. "Here you go," the major said kindly as he handed the clothes to Castyr.
"Thank you, Major." Castyr tilted his head in gratitude as he accepted the clothes.
Sinjae retreated into his tent once the clothes had been delivered, and Castyr then led Kilo up to the second level of the skyscraper located above the parking garage. After passing what used to be a gym for the corporate office, the two entered a hallway lined with showers on the left and a wall-to-wall counter with sinks and a mirror on the right.
"Thought we'd want to wash off before settling in," Castyr suggested as he and Kilo entered the empty shower room. Both the star and angel were coated in dried blood from the battle, so Kilo did not have any opposition. "Soap and shampoo are already in the shower," Castyr pointed out as he handed Kilo the fresh change of clothes he had gotten from Sinjae.
Once Kilo had his clothes, Castyr proceeded to remove his shirt and began unbuckling his belt. As he slid off his pants, Castyr turned to see Kilo standing frozen beside the long counter. "What?" Castyr asked when he saw the angel staring at him with slanted eyes. "Something wrong?"
Without missing a beat, Kilo returned, "Do you just undress like this in front of anyone?"
Castyr's face immediately reddened, and he turned from Kilo while denying, "What? No! We have separate showers." The star then turned back to face Kilo before asking, "Why? Did you get jealous?"
"Pff, no," Kilo quickly denied in a lie. However, the angel still refrained from undressing in front of the star to keep Castyr from knowing the real reason behind his hesitation.
The star gave Kilo a side eye before simply replying, "Okay," although he did not fully believe the angel. Castyr then fully undressed and activated one of the many showers. Kilo's gaze wandered up and down the star's lean body, and he quickly turned from the star when he felt himself heat up in reaction to Castyr's body.
Once he heard Castyr enter the shower, Kilo began undressing. The angel removed his shirt to reveal the many, gruesome scars that covered his body.
"Hey, I forgot to grab some new clothes-" Castyr came out of the shower suddenly, his words faltering when he saw Kilo's scar-covered chest, arms, and back.
Aish. Kilo turned around and put his hands on the edge of the counter. That was exactly what he had been trying to avoid. The angel's heart stopped in his chest as he watched Castyr walk up to him through the mirror.
"Kilo." Castyr released a quiet whimper as his eyes swam over the marks of torture. Kilo closed his eyes as he watched the star reach out his hand. Kilo remained still as he felt Castyr touch one of the scars. Expecting to flinch when the scar was touched, Kilo was surprised when the star's touch was overwhelmingly soothing.
Kilo's tense body relaxed when Castyr ran his hands over the angel's back. Tears touched the star's eyes as he saw all the scars covering his angel. A tear fell from Castyr's eye as he leaned in and gently kissed one of the more gruesome scars. His hands ran alongside Kilo's body and wrapped around the angel's waist as he pressed his wet body against Kilo's. Castyr then rested his head against the back of Kilo's neck as he hugged his angel from behind.
The two remained still for a long moment until Kilo turned around in Castyr's embrace. The star loosened his grip as Kilo turned and let Kilo cradle his head as the angel held him tightly. Kilo pet the star's wet head comfortingly when he felt warm tears drip onto his chest.
"It's okay...I'm here with you," Kilo soothed as Castyr cried softly. The angel patiently held his star as Castyr grieved over the many years when Kilo endured endless torment from Hades. After several minutes, when Castyr's tears had calmed, Kilo gently suggested, "You should finish showering."
"You should shower, too," Castyr replied as he pulled away from the angel. Kilo smiled at Castyr softly and nodded while brushing a tear from the star's cheek.
After the two had washed up, Castyr put on his blood-stained clothes for the walk to his tent. Once inside the tent, the star immediately removed his dirtied shirt, causing Kilo's heart to skip a beat as he changed in front of the angel. He certainly has grown.
"There's only one cot," Castyr said shyly when he had changed into a fresh set of clothes. "There are vacant tents, but they are at the other edge of the base."
"That's okay." Kilo nodded in understanding. He did not mind sharing a cot with Castyr, and he was too exhausted to hunt for a vacant one, so he followed Castyr onto the twin-sized cot.
Kilo lay on the side closest to the tent's opening and turned on his side to give the star as much room as he wanted. However, to Kilo's pleasant surprise, Castyr snuggled against him and lay as close to the angel as possible. Kilo gave a small smile and wrapped his arms around the star.
The angel relaxed as he breathed in Castyr's warm, airy scent. Castyr hummed happily as Kilo kissed the top of his head, and a light glow surrounded the two as the star eventually fell asleep. Hearing the star's soft snores, Kilo looked at the man in his arms one last time before closing his eyes and letting his exhaustion catch up to him.
