「 THIRTY-FOUR 」

Devyn let out a small sigh as he looked out the window of his office. It had been a month since his return to Daedoeshi, Earth, as CEO of Vaumyr and Co. Denzyl had taken up the role as the young CEO's personal bodyguard and hardly left Devyn's side...which Devyn could not say he did not like.

Denzyl was reading a book on a couch in Devyn's office while the CEO had been looking at a screen all day. The human's neck was sore, so he decide to take a break. Unlike his plan, Devyn's break somehow turned into the human just watching Denzyl read. His "break" was interrupted, however, when Astrid called Devyn's screen.

"Mr. Vaumyr, Wil Kossen is here to see you," Astrid informed through the screen. Devyn's heart dropped as he heard those two words. Denzyl's advanced hearing caught the name 'Wil' as soon as it was spoken. The demon promptly set down the book and went to stand behind Devyn.

"Thank you, Astrid." Devyn kept himself steady as he end the call.

"Is it him?" Denzyl asked in a growl.

Devyn nodded and stood to his feet. "Took him a month, but he's here." Placing his hands in his pant pockets, Devyn walked in front of the desk and leaned against it. Denzyl stood next to the human as the door to the office was opened. The CEO looked up to see Wil waltz into the room wearing his usual, piercing gaze. Wil had not aged a day in the five decades; he had an ample supply of brune, the anti-age drug. I wish he would do the universe a favor and overdose. Devyn's gaze became distant as he watched Wil walk up to him.

"Devyn, it's good to see you. You finally decided to return from your...trip." Wil greeted as his eyes trailed up to the demon standing beside the young CEO protectively. "You didn't tell me you got a bodyguard."

"Would you also like me to tell you what I ate for breakfast?" Devyn retorted. His voice was cold and tart.

It did not take even a second for Wil to backhand the young male. Wil's strike was strong and powerful. "I thought I taught you to not back talk me," the blonde-haired growled.

Denzyl caught Devyn as the human fell against the desk. Devyn held out an arm to stop Denzyl as the demon started toward Wil. Devyn shook his head slightly, motioning for Denzyl to stop. The demon unwillingly stepped away from between Wil and Devyn but remained on high guard and ready to spring into action should Wil move to hurt Devyn.

"You should stop running away from me, Devyn. My patience is running out. I will make you mine." Wil took this opportunity to near Devyn. "Remember, your parents practically gave you to me. It was their dying wish to see us married. We can't let their last wish stay unfulfilled, can we?" By this time, Wil had lifted Devyn's chin so the CEO was forced to look at him.

Devyn watched as Denzyl's eyes turned red and the demon's hand started to smoke. Denzyl took a step forward as the door to the office was flung open. Devyn let out a sigh as he saw an out-of-breath Miren rush in. Thank gott she made it.

Denzyl cooled down in response to Miren's entrance and snuffed the smoke rising from his hand. The demon let out a breath and stepped in between Wil and Devyn, confidently staring down the blonde man: a feat no being had done and lived to see the next day.

"Miren, I thought I told you to not disturb me when I'm with my fiancé!" Wil said in annoyance toward the red-haired woman.

"My apologies." Miren bowed. She shot Wil a death glare as the man turned back to face his fiancé.

"We will continue some other time," the blue-eyed man said before storming out of the office.

Denzyl helped Devyn stand up straight as he asked, "How can he do this to you?"

"He's my very powerful fiancé. He's bribed nearly every official on Earth."

"How-how long has he been..."

"Since I was sixteen."

Denzyl's jaw clenched at Devyn's response. Devyn quickly turned Denzyl's head away from Miren and toward himself as the demon's eyes flashed red. "Calm down, Denzyl. Please," Devyn pleaded quietly. He could not afford for Miren to find out Denzyl was a demon. He could not lose Denzyl.

"Are you okay, Devyn?" Miren asked as she approached the two. "I rushed over here when I heard Wil was coming." The woman looked at Devyn holding Denzyl's face close to him and wondered if the crimson-haired man was alright.

"I'm okay. Thank you, Miren," Devyn responded.

Denzyl lifted his head once he had calmed down and opened his beautiful grey eyes. After nodding to Devyn that he was okay, Denzyl turned and thanked Miren for traveling the distance to help Devyn.

"Of course, Denzyl," Miren said softly. "Ah! There was one thing I needed to tell you!" The woman clapped her hands as she recalled the second reason she rushed to Vaumyr and Co. Devyn waited eagerly for the woman to continue. "Kilo and Castyr are missing. They think they fell from Heaven...again. They could be anywhere by now, but I thought I'd let you know."

"Is it related to the breach? I heard Heaven was attacked," Devyn inquired.

"Yes. Castyr's residence was broken into."

Devyn's heart sank as he thought of the young angel and small star.

"Maybe I can help find them," Denzyl offered as he saw the human male's worried expression.

Devyn looked at Denzyl with admiration. The human's heart swelled as he gazed at the demon. "Would you? Castyr is so small, and Kilo is still young, and they're all alone."

"Of course," Denzyl agreed.

Devyn looked out the window wall of his office to see the day's light diminishing. "The sun is setting. Do you think you could check the city? I know that it's a long shot, but-"

"Don't worry. I'll find them," Denzyl said comfortingly.

Devyn nodded and smiled, "Thank you." He trusted the demon. If Castyr and Kilo were in Daedoeshi by some small chance, Denzyl would be the one who could find them.

Denzyl nodded before turning to go search the city. Devyn saw the demon stop by Astrid's desk as he exited the office. The human's newly sensitive ears were barely able to make out Denzyl's low growl. "From now on, do not let Wil in without getting approval from me." The demon lingered over the frightened secretary and showed her his true eyes. A scream left Astrid's lips as she jumped from her chair.

Aish, Denzyl! Did that tall turd just flash my secretary?! We will have to talk about this when he gets back. Devyn shook his head before returning to the miles and miles of work. The only way to keep his mind from worrying about Denzyl and the two little ones the whole night was to drown himself in work, and so he did.

Denzyl swiveled his head as he walked down the boardwalk lining the river. Hmm. The scent of an angel and star. What does an angel smell like? What scent does a star have? I have never even met an angel much less a star. Just search for anything that is not human? But then you have gilman, roldran, myths, golothian, gahen, and hundreds more. So...I guess look for anything...Heaven-like? But what does Heaven smell like? Ah! Whatever. Just search for anything that seems ethereal.

The demon walked down the long streets of Daedoeshi, sifting through the endless scents. He left the artsy district of cafes, parks, studios, and galleries surrounded by a warm glow and entered the raunchy area: the domain of vibrant lights and colors. The sun had already set, so the colors were popping and the music was blaring. Denzyl dulled his other senses and focused only on smell as he milled through the incapacitated crowd. The shouts and yells from the partyers and drunks in the street were muffled as the demon squeezed through the dancers.

It was the strong musky honey scent that first caught the demon's attention. The scent was soaked in adrenaline and fear. Denzyl zeroed in on the scent to find a warm, airy scent intertwined with it. Whether it was the angel and star or not, they were in trouble.

Denzyl turned to his right and began following the two scents. The music and sounds of dancing faded away as the demon left the busy street. The scents led the crimson-haired male to a less-populated area of the district where his ears picked up the sounds of fighting.

Running, Denzyl dashed to the mouth of a dead end. A body greeted the demon at the opening. Stepping over the body, Denzyl walked over to a couple on the road. A silver-haired male was lying unconscious in the arms of a black-haired man. The black-haired looked up suddenly as he saw the man approaching him, stunning Denzyl with his purple eyes. The male's eyes filled with fear as he smelled the demon's scent.

Denzyl held out his hands carefully as the man began scooting away and covered the silver-haired with his body. "It's okay. I'm not going to hurt you," Denzyl said softly in hopes of soothing the frazzled man.

Black wings suddenly sprouted from the black-haired man's back as he stood and lifted the silver-haired in his arms. He's an angel! "Kilo?" Denzyl asked as the male turned around to fly away.

The man stopped in his tracks and slowly turned around. "Do you know me?" He inquired cautiously. His voice was deep and low.

"Is this Castyr?" Denzyl gestured to the silver-haired in Kilo's arms. What happened to you two? The two males were covered in cuts and gashes, and the black-haired appeared as if he would pass out any second. His weight was shifted to one leg causing Denzyl to assume that the other leg had been injured.

The man tightened his hold around the silver-haired and rolled him into his chest. Denzyl sighed with relief at the angel's confirmation. It was Castyr.

"I found you. Thank Hades. Come with me. I can get you someplace safe," the demon offered the frazzled angel.

The black-haired just stood and stared at Denzyl apprehensively. "Why should I trust you? You're a demon."

"Devyn sent me." Those were the only words Denzyl needed to say. If Devyn was worried about them that much, then they should know each other pretty well.

The angel's eyes widened at the name of his human friend. "Devyn? Is he alright?"

"He is now. He is back at his company."

"...So this is Earth?" The angel took a moment to look at his surroundings.

"Mm-hmm. Welcome to Daedoeshi," Denzyl greeted.

Daedoshi was on the side of Earth opposite of Harlim, so it did not get affected much during the fifty years of war. It was still the big, thriving city it was before everything began.

"So...you coming?" Denzyl asked as the angel continued to remain still.

The angel looked down at the star in his arms before looking back up at the demon in front of him.

"He looks like he needs medical attention," Denzyl observed as he saw the unconscious star in Kilo's arms. The angel still hesitated, so the demon added, "Devyn has a private doctor." Still no response. Ahhhh...why do you make me talk so much? "No one will know you are here except Devyn and me...oh, and Miren."

"We'll go. Help him, please."

Denzyl nodded. You've got guts, kid. It takes a lot to trust a demon you just met. Denzyl motioned for Kilo to follow him and began leading the angel and his star to Vaumyr and Co.
