Chapter 1- Battle
I lived in a place full of werewolves and weredogs; the cats were in the next town over. I lived in a nice house in the middle of the woods with a few other rogues my age. The rogues I lived with hadn't done anything wrong. They were either born into it, or weredogs banished at birth.
"Dylan come on! You're missing the game!" My friend, Micah, shouts. He was a weredog that was banished at birth. He was a sweet guy and when he shifted, shifted into an auburn Irish Setter whose coat was the same color as his smooth locks of hair. He had two younger sisters too. Belle, and Beau. The two girls were twin Labradors who had cream colored hair the only quality they shared with their older brother was their green eyes.
I plopped down beside Micah on the couch and began to watch the game on TV. Every year in our town alphas and lunas from across the state would come and come and hunt the white stag. During this week my housemates and I went undercover, wearing shirts with long sleeves and collars if we had to leave the house and staying in as much as possible.
The twins didn't much care for the games. The alphas and lunas had a tendency to rip each other to bits. Any alpha who killed another alpha immeadiatly got his lands and his family. I watched with excitement as a black wolf ripped out the throat of a gray wolf.
"Who're you routing for this year Dylan?" Micah asked as he sipped his beer. I thought about it then threw five bucks on the table.
"Five bucks on the black wolf from the west." I say and smirk at him. Our other roommates Liz, Stryder, and Bane entered the room.
"Ok. Five bucks on the white wolf from the south." Micah says, placing his money on the coffee table. I smirk as the others place their bets on other wolves.
Liz was my closest female friend. She also owned the house we all lived in. Her hair fell in soft, black ringlets. She had tanned skin and green eyes. Despite having the perfect cheerleader build Liz had to work hard to keep her weight down. She was a grade A badass with a temper that could a pack of two year olds a run for their money.
Bane was a sweet wolf that was kind of our mother hen. He took care of us girls and always made sure we got home safe after going for drinks. He had pale purple hair and bright blue eyes. Everyone in the house thought he might be gay but no one said a thing. Bane was a shy wolf and only talked us. Whenever we went for drinks he wouldn't talk to any girls. If he talked to anyone at all it'd be the bartender. He also spent a lot of his time helping Liv, Belle, Beau, and I with our hair, makeup, and outfit when we were going on dates.
Then their was Stryder. Stryder was sort of our alpha he protected us and made sure we were all safe and happy. Stryder had dark brown wavy hair his eyes were a rare color of purple. He had pale skin and a scar over his right eye that he had received when he was just a baby. Stryder was quiet but when he spoke you you faintly detect a Swedish accent.
We sat and watched the game eagerly each cheering on our favorite wolf. The twins, meanwhile, were hanging out with two rogue males that lived down the street. I could tell Micah was freaking out by the way he checked his phone and texted them every ten minutes. The twins weren't rebellious nor mischeavious. They were good honest girls that never wanted to disappoint their brother.
My favorite, the black wolf, was doing well in his hunt. I could tell his senses we're hieghtend and he had trained long and hard for this hunt. He was knew though so I knew his father must've been an alpha or he killed an alpha. Either way he was a strong competitor and would put up a fight.
"And the alpha of the Blood Claw pack downs the Luna of the River pack. Oh and her mate comes to her aid but ooo. He killed both of them! Dang this new kid is gonna be a big threat I can tell." The reporter says while grimacing as he watches the death of two leaders.
I wish my friends goodnight then go to my room which I shared with our other roommate, Corey. Corey was an Irish wolf that moved in with us about a year ago. He had moved to America but wasn't accepted into any of the local packs due to the fact that his wolf was dormant. Corey was a sweet brunette wolf with chocolate colored eyes and pale skin. He lost his mate about a year back and decided to move to the states so he could start over. I was the only person in the house that could handle his nightmares. Ever since his wolf had gone dormant. I sat down on his bed and cuddled up to him. He could never function during times when there were hunting games. He had lost his mate to a large white wolf during one.
I stroked his hair away from his tear stained face and wiped the tears from his eyes.
"Corey wanna go for a run?" I questioned. That always seemed to perk him up. He nodded and smiled. I walked downstairs and told everyone to mute the TV and stand in front of it so he wouldn't see. I walked Corey downstairs and helped him put on a hoodie. I shifted into my form and looked at myself. It had been two weeks since the games had started, two weeks since my wolf was able to come out to play.
Corey put my collar on me and I growled at him. He chuckled and o sat down. Corey petted my snow colored fur and shook his head in amazement.
You do know it's not safe for you to let me out right? My wolf, Harper, questioned. I nodded to her and chuckled.
If you bring the poo bags Corey I will- and you're bringing the poo bags. Harper said and tugged on the leash. She glared at him and he laughed. I always hoped him being around my wolf would draw his out.
We walked around our neighborhood which was mostly humans and people smiled at us. A little girl stopped and I sat down and wagged my tail at her. When I first moved here everyone thought that Harper would kill them. Now they all love Harper.
"Harper!" The girl giggled and ran up and hugged my wolf. Corey chuckled and looked down at the girl, fighting the tears. He had wanted to have kids with his mate so badly. I remember when he first came to us everyone thought he was mute.
No one in this town new about werewolves and if they did the government would come and erase their memories and relocate us. It was a lengthy process but seeing what fear of werewolves and weredogs did to people made it worth it.
Corey walked us until we reached the forest. We heard yips and growls and Corey began to reek of fear. He dropped my leash and ran back to our house. Harper was intrigued though. Harper trotted forward and looked to see the alpha of the Blood Claw fighting the white wolf that Micah had bet on. Being a white wolf myself I knew the strength we held and knew it'd be difficult. I couldn't just let that alpha be killed.
Harper watched as the two males fought each other. Both had no luna, the only ties they had were to their packs. Harper jumped in the fight and began to bite and claw at the pale alpha, aiding the dark furred one.
You do realize that you could die for a stranger and an alpha right? I spoke to Harper. She wasn't listening though, something drew her to this male like a moth to a flame.
Harper bit the enemy alpha's neck and clamped down. She heard a snap and let go, spitting the blood out and letting the once proud alpha fall dead with a broken neck.
The male I had gambled on shifted.
"Mate."
