Chapter 8.

"Emma hurry up we're gonna' be late!" I hear Harry's voice boom from downstairs.

Today is New Year's Eve and myself and Harry are on our way to Zayn and Perrie's house because they're hosting the New Years party this year, normally we alternate, like last year it was at Niall's and Hayley's.

It's nearing 8pm and I'm almost ready, I've had Harry mithering me for the last half an hour, pestering me to hurry up. I mean, I'm a girl, I'm going as fast as I can!

After having a movie afternoon with the group of fans the other day, me and Harry have been in the papers every day since. Everyone has been talking about how 'lovely' and 'amazing' we are to our fans, some people think it was all publicity; we on the other hand don't care what anyone thinks, we simply let a small group of fans into our home because it was cold outside, and we were worried for their well-being, nothing more, nothing less.

As I make my way down the staircase I notice Harry's attire. His outfit casual as always but somehow manages to be exceedingly outstanding, perfect for him. He is wearing his usual black skinny jeans, the material hugging closely to his slim legs and his belt fitted to the perfect setting around his hips; he is wearing a plain white dress shirt that is smartly tucked in; all of this paired with a black blazer and shiny dress shoes. He looks amazing as per usual.

I, on the other hand, have chosen to wear a white strapless dress, with a band of flowers along where my midriff is, the colours light and pastel-like. Below this, the dress ripples lightly to the edge of the knee length dress, I've paired my dress with a chunky silver bracelet, diamanté's across the top, and a silver clutch purse.

"Wow," I hear Harry's voice whisper lowly. His eyes wide as he glances over at me, staring intently in disbelief.

"Wow yourself." I smile back, glancing once again at his suitable outfit.

He holds out his arm in a gentlemanly manner and I link with him immediately, his arm tightening close to his side and pulling me into him further and securing me there. He also acts to help me balance in my silver heels, floral patterns along the side of them as I walk with Harry towards his Range Rover.

The journey to the party is quiet and peaceful, something contradicting to the loud music and chattering that is bound to come. I hold on to Harry's hand tightly as he drives, our thoughts wandering together silently, neither of us saying a word but both internally thinking about the same things.

This year is almost over. Only a few more hours and we'll be starting a new year together.

More birthdays.

Valentines day.

Easter.

Our anniversary.

Christmas.

And then right back around to New Years.

Time goes too fast nowadays, the only moments that seem to drag are the ones that you wish didn't. The ones that you don't want to savour or remember, the ones that you want to forget. But all the times that you wish to remember are gone within seconds.

Moments later Harry pulls up at Zayn and Perrie's house, the outline of their large white Christmas tree still visible through their voile curtains, it being beautifully lit with blue and lilac lights and sprinkled with light pink and blue baubles. The guttering of the house lined neatly with white Christmas lights, making the front brighter and more eye catching than before. I knock on the glossy black front door, waiting patiently beside Harry for them to answer; his arm slithering securely around my waist as he pulls me into his warm side, placing a loving and well needed kiss to my temple. Words can't describe how much I love this man next to me.

"Hey you two!" Perrie smiles, her slim body covered in a white play suit with a pearl beaded collar, she looks stunning as always.

"Hey hun! Happy new year!" I smile back, kissing her lightly on the cheek and engulfing her in a hug.

"Happy new year!" She chuckles doing the same to Harry. I wait patiently in the warmth of her home, my hand finding Harry's soon after as we are led into the living room where the others currently are. All but Niall and Hayley.

We say our hello's to everyone before I voice my thoughts, it's unlike them to be late. "Where are Niall and Hayles?" I question everyone casually.

"We don't know, we thought you would know." They all glance at me, my own question turning on itself as they wait for me to answer. I stumble on my words, completely unsure what to do, I have no idea where they are!

But as always, my knight in shining armour comes to my rescue. "No, we haven't heard from them since Christmas." Harry answers, pulling me closer into his side as we sit alone on the two seater couch. I'm almost sat on his lap, although I decline his eager offer; I hate sitting on Harry's lap, I feel like I'm too heavy for him. "Sit on my lap," he whines next to me, his warm breath fanning against my ear, "you're not too heavy." He adds as if reading my mind.

"No," I conclude firmly, he knows how self conscious I am, but the tiny pout that reveals itself on his face is hard to ignore. "But I'll compromise." I offer, sitting sideways next to him and throwing my legs over his, his hands dancing over the skin on my newly shaven legs as we listen to the others conversations.

I pull my dress down slightly so it covers the side of my leg that is on show to everyone, my hands then clasping together and sitting upon my lap as I listen to everyone's stories. A soft warmth pulsates through my hands as Harry wraps them in his own, small electric shocks run through my hand and travel up through my body as we remain in contact. This is what he does, without even saying a word all of my focus and attention is on that light grasp he has on me, that tiny gesture that fills me to the brim with emotion.

"Sorry we're late! Dinner was a bit longer than we thought." Hayley smiles as she and Niall enter through the living room door. I didn't even hear the doorbell.

"Oh good, you're here!" Perrie smiles as she looks at all of hers guests, happy that everyone is now here. "Hayley could you help me in the kitchen for a sec please?" Perrie asks politely, glance hopefully at Hayley, who gladly accepts.

As they both exit the room, Niall slumps into the space beside me, leaving us all to furrow our eyebrows at his dramatic action. Once he releases a sigh I decide to speak up, "whats wrong Niall?"

He looks at me, and then to all of the other waiting faces in the room, sighing again in defeat. "You guys promise you won't say anything?" he starts.

"We promise."

"Of course we promise."

"Promise."

"I promise."

"Yes, we promise."

"I promise, now come on Niall!"

"Scouts honour!"

We all chorus at the same time, I roll my eyes and chuckle at Louis' comment. "The reason why we are late is because we went to dinner." The seven of us look at each other knowingly.

"Niall we already knew that." Zayn attempts to clarify.

"Yeah, but you don't know why we went out to dinner." Niall explains.

We all nod in unison, "that's a good point." Liam retaliates, all of us girls remaining quiet until we hear the reason.

"Well I thought that considering it's New Years Eve, now would be the best time to propose to her." He states.

All of us girls gasp at the same time, our faces softening at such a sweet gesture. Niall took Hayley out tonight because he wanted to propose to her, he wants to spend the rest of his life with my best friend! I pull my lips inwardly and bite them to prevent my oncoming tears, this is so perfect. But my trance of happiness is broken when Danielle asks the dreaded question.

"So did you propose?!" she asks eagerly.

"No." my heart actually sinks in my chest. My hands involuntarily picking up a small cushion and throwing it at him. "Hey! What was that for?" he whisper yells, making sure Perrie and Hayles can't hear him from the kitchen.

"You didn't propose?! Why?" I retaliate in the same tone of voice, my feet now firmly placed on the floor and my body facing Niall as he consumes my attention; although Harry's hand is resting on my lower back, his thumb drawing circles on my back dimples in an effort to keep me calm, which he is actually succeeding in doing.

"Because I'm scared Emma! I have absolutely no idea how to ask her, or even bring it up. I love her so much and I just don't want her to say no, or, regret saying yes." my eyebrows furrow softly at his words, he's so sweet, Hayley is truly lucky to have Niall.

I walk my way over and give him a soft side hug of reassurance, an apologising gesture for my throwing of the couch cushion. "Sorry." I say sincerely into his ear, "we'll all help you, don't worry about it." I whisper.

As we pull away I notice the small smile on his face, "Right everyone, here are some nibbles. Perrie just needed some help with putting everything on plates and stuff." Hayley smiles cheerily into the room, corrupting the soft atmosphere to a more light and cheery one.

'Thank you.' Niall mouths to me as I sit back next to Harry, his left hand holding my right knee tightly as we both fall back on the couch, leaning into each other.

'You're welcome.' I smile and wink back, before placing a soft kiss to Harry's cheek and nuzzle into the crook of his neck.

After a few moments of silence between us, I hear Harry's husky voice whisper down to me; his warm breath against the front of my face as my eyes remain closed. I know he's looking at me, I can feel his sparkling green eyes bore into my skin. "Emma."

"Yeah?" I whisper back, my eyes still closed, just taking in his enchanting voice. The voice that sings like an angel and the voice I get to wake up to every morning. The voice that I love.

"I love you." He whispers to me, his lips, pressing softly to my forehead.

A smile erupts onto my face as I hear those perfect words escape his mouth, the words I've heard a thousand times over but never get bored of hearing when it comes to Harry. My hazel eyes flutter open, my prediction correct as I find his stunning green eyes blazing down at me; contentment and admiration shining brighter through them than the sun does in the sky.

"I love you too, Harry."

•••

"10...9...8...7...6..." We all stand in the garden counting down until the new year, Zayn with a lighter in hand, ready to set the awaiting fireworks off.

"5...4...3..." Our chorus begins to get more impatient and excited as the countdown gets even closer to the new year. One that, hopefully, is filled with smiles and laughs and love.

"2...1...Happy New Year!" Every one of us cheers to the other. All four lads then turning to their partners and engulfing them in a passionate kiss.

Apart from me.

When I turn around I see Harry's eyes focused on the fireworks, their bright colours and loud bangs ruling the sky. The boisterous sound echoing through my ears as it fills the blackness above us, Harry's face lighting up with the colours from the fireworks, their whines making him smile at the spectacle in the sky.

I'm torn between contentment and being slightly upset at this moment in time. I'm happy because Harry looks blissful and at peace, whereas I'm slightly upset that he didn't kiss me after the countdown. I tear my eyes away from him and restrain myself from overthinking the situation.

My eyes turn up to the sky, the fireworks now taking my complete attention. They are simply astounding.

It's like a circus in the sky. The bright lights captivating their audience, spinning and whirling in front of our eyes then disappearing abruptly into the black. The only remembrance of them are the flashing images in your mind and the whirls of grey smoke that surround your feet.

Two large arms wind their way around my waist from behind and I feel light kisses being peppered against the side of my neck. "It's a bit late isn't it?" I ask him, my eyes still focused on the colour show above our heads.

"Nope." He answers simply, his word almost muffled by his lips against my neck. "Because now, we're the only ones kissing, and we don't have to share the moment with anyone else." He smiles against my skin, already knowing that he has won me over. "It's all ours." Harry walks around me and stands directly in front of me, his known smirk on his lips and his eyes soaring into mine.

His chocolate curls shield my view from the firework display, although the colours still bounce off our skin. Harry's green eyes flick down to my lips and I can't help but let out a small smile as he leans down; his lips brushing against mine lightly and teasingly before we can't fight the urge any more.

His plump pink lips softly caress mine, the kiss sweet and adoring. My fingers running against his chest and abs as one of his hands lightly cups my cheek, and the other resting on the small of my back, pulling me closer to his body.

Mine and Harry's kisses are always different, some are urgent, some are passionate, some are cheeky, but we've never had one like this. So loving and in depth, like we don't want to lose each other even though we're not going anywhere. Not sexual or lustful. But just simply loving and care-free.

He whispers against my lips as our foreheads rest together like always, "Happy New Year Emma."
