Chapter 4.
I'm excited.
It's Boxing Day.
Which means I get to see my family, and Harry's family.
For the first time in months.
I'm very excited.
I could hardly sleep last night because of the excitement, I haven't seen our families for a while because of work, so when we arranged to spend Boxing Day together I honestly couldn't wait. My mind is racing with different things that we are going to do: family traditions, dinner, jokes, presents, I'm so excited to see everyone!
Me and Harry are currently sat in his car, so far we have been driving for three and a half hours, which means that in half an hour we will be back home in Holmes Chapel. We have played every car game imaginable, listen to the CD 3 times over and now we're just chatting to pass the time. Harry slept like a baby last night, I know he's excited too but not as much as me obviously. He looked so sweet with tiny snores escaping his mouth, I couldn't help but observe him.
He's wide awake at the minute and is having no trouble driving the mindlessly boring hours back home; Whereas I on the other hand am shattered, but feel wide awake, I think it's the excitement.
As we drive the familiar route I begin to feel bored yet again, my mind flicking to different things to do or think of, only to come back unsuccessful. I release a large sigh and rest my head back, slightly defeated. "What's wrong love?" Harry's beautifully husky voice asks.
"I'm just a bit bored, that's all." I huff.
After five minutes of silence - and deep thought on Harry's part - he broke the silence, "We could play another game if you'd like?" He offers sweetly. That's one of the many things I love about Harry, he always aims to please; he hates to disappoint people or when people aren't happy and he will do everything in his power to change that. The consideration he has for his family and friends is what makes me love him, it's one of many things that make me love him more and more every day.
I smile gratefully at his suggestion and nod simply knowing it couldn't hurt to play a little game to pass the time. After naming several different car games we decided on one. Race to twenty. Basically, two players have to take turns to count to twenty, whoever lands on the number twenty loses, but players can say multiple numbers (three max) at once, so anyone could win. "Okay I'll start!" I say with much more enthusiasm knowing that we only have to occupy twenty minutes. "One."
"Two, three," Harry smiles cheekily, he thinks that he is going to win.
"Four, five, six," I chuckle the tension riding in the car with us as we continue our little game.
"Seven," he answers.
"Eight, nine," I smile widely at us getting closer to the target number.
"Ten, eleven, twelve," I am not going to let Harry win, I never win when it comes to games, he always finds a way to beat me so I am not giving up.
"Thirteen, fourteen," I answer skeptically trying not to lose.
"Fifteen, sixteen," he laughs.
"Seventeen, eighteen," I chuckle at his beautiful laugh, getting slightly distracted.
"Nineteen," he smirks knowing that he has won already.
"Aww no! That's not fair, you distracted me!" I whine childishly.
"How did I distract you?!" He laughs at my childish manner knowing that I hate losing.
"Because you have the most perfect laugh and I got distracted, you big stupid head." I mumble, he bursts out laugh at my stubborn attitude.
"Hey! We haven't finished the game yet, you have to say it!" He chuckles not letting me get away with anything.
"I refuse to say it." I fold my arms stubbornly in front of my chest. He knows I'm being playfully serious, he knows I'm only joking.
"Well, then, I refuse to kiss you." He states simply, and with no hesitation.
I giggled at his words pitifully, "you couldn't do that!" I laugh, Harry hasn't got the will power to not kiss me, we have tried this before and it never works because one of us always caves in. We are like magnets, when we're near to each other we can't help but connect in anyway possible at the time, we are joined at the hip, so this little tease is worthless.
"We'll see." He teases making me laugh. "I'm not going to kiss you until you say 'twenty', so until then consider these lips off limits!" He chuckles pointing to his lips.
"Fine." I laugh, accepting the challenge. Our little game seemed to have worked a treat considering I recognise the familiar street I use to live on. The trees still green and the air so cold you can see the steam when you breathe out; snow hasn't fallen in Holmes Chapel yet, but no doubt it will come mid January, it always does. "Harry look!" I smile pointing to my childhood home.
He chuckles at my newly formed excitement and parks at the side of my house. I waste no time in getting out of the car and taking my bag in hand before Harry interrupts my actions, "I'll carry that babe, you go ahead." He smiles taking my bag from me, at a moment like this I would normally kiss him and in all honestly I find it in my will power to not do so, refusing to give in to his charm.
"Thank you." I giggle at his gesture, he knows my struggle, making him smirk at my resistance. He knows I'm going to give in before he does.
As I walk down the path to my old front door I ignore the multiple flashes of cameras and the constant questions from the press and smile sweetly at the small group of fans, I give them all a small wave and an elegant smile as I make my way through the front gate and onto the doorstep. My hand raises to knock onto the glass door waiting for it to be swung open.
I feel a warm body stand behind me and already know it's Harry without having to turn around. His warmth radiating on me, his familiar smell filling my senses and his protective aura surrounding me and keeping me safe. I lean my head back so it rests on his shoulder whilst we wait for the door to open, I can tell he is tempted to kiss my forehead but he resists. I giggle at him softly, this is as hard for him as it is for me.
My old front door opens and we are met by Niall's smiling face, "Ohh! Hey you two!" The group of fans gathered outside of my home scream even louder when they see Niall's recognisable face, I smile at him in return. "Come on in!" He cheers, making me laugh as he invites me into my own home.
Niall moves to the side so Harry and I enter the hallway, walking through into the living room; only to find my mother, father, brothers, Hayles and Anna. "Hello everyone!" I chuckle as I walk into the room, Harry closely behind me leaving our bags in the hallway.
"Aww hello!" My mum cheers running up to the both of us and engulfing us both in a group hug. "We've missed you so much! We haven't seen you in so long!!" She laughs, Niall having to shimmy his way past us to get to his previous seat next to Hayles.
"I know, sorry, we've just been really busy. It's good to be home though!" I smile at everyone, grabbing Harry's hand tightly in mine as we walk over to the couch. "We're going over to Harry's later today as well." I inform her.
"So you're having two Christmas dinners?!" My dad exclaims, looking at us with wide eyes and a dropped jaw.
"Yep, and we won't be able to move afterwards." I chuckle at my dad's reaction, I have no idea how Harry and I are going to manage two Christmas dinners only hours apart but we'll do our best.
"I better start preparing then! Harry you must want to get home, I bet you're really missing your family." Mum starts, getting up from her seat and standing in the doorway waiting for Harry's reply, her short dark red hair swinging from side to side as she walks.
"Yeah, I do miss them. I'm looking forward to when I get to see them later." Harry smiles at my mum.
I turn to face Hayles and give her a bone crushing hug. I've missed her so much and I'm so use to seeing her that when we're separated, I start missing her, she's like my sister. She moved in with Niall a year and a half ago in London so they live fairly close to us, but she went to see Niall's family for Christmas then came to Holmes Chapel to see her own parents - then casually came to see my family considering our parents grew up together.
"I've missed you!" We mumble to each other as Niall and Harry chatter, leaning forward to look across mine and Hayley's embracing bodies.
"I've missed you too! And I won't see you until you get back to London." She answers. This is Hayles and Niall's last day in Holmes Chapel before they head back to London, whereas me and Harry are staying here for another day or two, we're not really sure yet.
"I know, but we can do something when I get back." I promise her making her instantly smile.
Hayles attention is taken away from me as she hears Niall's distinctive laugh; she turns and smiles lovingly at him, as if joy courses through her when she's happy. They are such a good couple.
"Right everyone, dinners ready, come on in!" my mum shouts from the dining room.
We all gradually make our way in and are welcomed with the table beautifully decorated; it is a large mahogany table that seats ten (four either side, one at the head and one at the bottom), there is a red runner down the centre of the table, nine plate setting arranged, dishes holding different meats and veg in the middle of the table and finally two tall red candles already lit giving the room that Christmas feel.
I sit down with Harry on my left and Niall and Hayles on my right, Jake is opposite Niall, my mum is opposite Hayles, Ben is opposite me, Anna is opposite Harry and my dad is at the head of the table.
I glance around the table and watch everyone as they dish around the food, helping themselves to generous portions and laughing with each other. I observe as they pull Christmas crackers and tell stupid jokes that always end up being funny, even if it's the tiniest giggle that escapes your lips, or something as simple as a smile. I watch everyone sit happily around each other, spending valuable time with one another that's so rare for us nowadays.
I smile absentmindedly at everyone I love in this one room.
Harry's warm hand slithers it's way onto my leg, his large palm keeping me warm slightly as I turn to glance at him, a small smile on my face. He has clearly noticed my trance like observation and is curious. "Are you okay?" He asks carefully making sure nothing is wrong.
"Yeah," I say the only thing I can at this moment. I feel nothing but explosive joy and contentment; I feel as if my life is exactly how I've always dreamed of it, as if my dreams have actually come true. From the support from my family to the love and affection I receive from Harry, I am truly grateful for everything I have, and being here, right now, with the people I love, has made me realise that.
I stare into Harry's beautiful green eyes with a smile, a small smile making its way onto his own face as I finish my sentence.
"I'm just so happy."
