Epilogue 3: Athen

Athen, Greece

"..."

"Zelda...."

"Zelda!"

"Wake up, Zelda!"

Zelda's eyes flicker open, but when the sun burns her eyes, she instantly shuts them again.

"What is it Link?"

"So basically, we are about to land, like literally not even 30 seconds left, and if you don't move and get into a decent spot and buckle your seatbelt, you might fly around this plane and break every bone you have."

Links voice is in some sort of panic but also focused.

At first, Zelda doesn't understand what he meant, but when she opens her eyes, she sees that they are already hovering above the ground. She quickly sits up properly and buckles her seatbelt, suddenly she's fully awake.

"Goodess Link, wake me up earlier next time will you?"

"I've tried to wake you up so many times, but I couldn't tickle you awake because I have to control this airplane. So, when you are done complaining pleaseeeeeeee let me land this thing, Zel."

"Yes, you're right sorry."

Link is very focused on the landing progress, he even sticks his tongue out a little bit. Zelda thinks it's cute when he does that, he almost never does it, he mainly does it when he's dying in his favorite video game again and again.

The plane stats shaking and after a short while they landed and Link let's out a sigh of relief.

"I've done this a thousand times, it still scares me a bit."

"Well you've done a good job, Mister Pilot"

"Thank you"

When they arrived at the spot where the plane would be staying, they kissed each other quickly and then got out of the plane, out of the airport, and now they are looking for a taxi, fortunately, there are plenty, unfortunately, they speak very bad to no English, Link has told Zelda before that the Greek don't have very high education standards and so many, especially older people can't speak English.

Link still goes to one of the taxis and starts speaking.

Speaking, fluent Greek.

"Μπορείτε να με οδηγήσετε στο Λαύριο?"

The taxi driver answers

"ναι κανένα πρόβλημα"

"Come on Zel, let's go."

Zelda is still confused, how was she dating this man for all this time and didn't know he speaks Greek, they've been to Greek restaurants but he never spoke it there.

"Zelda? Hello? Let's go"

When Zelda wakes up from her trance, she shakes her head and then quickly moved into the taxi.

On the drive to Lavrion, Zelda looks left and right and sees some mountains, which all seem, dry, as well as some black places too, there seems to have been fires all over the place.

"Δεν έχει πολλή βροχή φέτος?"

"Οχι."

"ατυχής."

Link talked to the taxi driver again in Greek but when they seemed finished she talks to Link.

"I never knew you spoke Greek."

"Well, I didn't think it was important so I never told you."

"Hm, if you say so, what did you tell him? And where are we going? Athens is in the other direction."

"I asked him if it didn't rain much this year, and it didn't. As you can see everything is dry and there are many fires, in Summer there is always lots of wind and when it's so dry, a small fire is enough to burn down everything. Luckily no cities were harmed and no people. But seeing it all burned feels bad. This is somewhat like home for me anyways. And we are not staying in Athens, but we won't go too far, we are going to stay at the house of my grandparents, you'll like it there it's close to the ocean, and not far from Athens either."

"So there are fires like this here often?"

"Yes, every year. Last year it was worse, Athens almost burned down, it was raining ash and you got covered in it too. Not too many people were harmed but thousands lost their home."

"That's so sad."

"The people here know how to handle it, they have family, and they'll take care of them, also other countries gave Greece money to rebuild homes."

"Well, still sad."

"Well yes, but there's nothing anyone can do now anymore."

For the rest of the 30min drive, Zelda and Link held hands while staring out of their windows, and looking at the landscape. They pass some shops but mainly dry mountains. Then the taxi leaves the big road and crosses one of the mountains, and once they are at the peak, they see the ocean and an island in front of them. A beautiful view with many white houses and all facing the ocean.

The taxi keeps moving through tight streets and all of the houses until they stop at a house almost at the peak of a mountain. It was a white house with blue fences and gates.
Link thanks and pays the taxi driver, takes out the luggage, and stands beside Zelda who is still admiring the view.

"Don't be so impressed already, our house is still blocking the view."

Link opens the gate with his key, and the two walk towards the house, but instead of opening the house, Link stops, put the luggage into shadows and tells Zelda to follow him. They walked towards stairs that lead to the roof of the house, the house has a flat roof so you can walk on it. When they reached the top of the stairs, an incredible view awaited them.
The sun was setting behind the island, the sun and the whole sky was painted red and orange, even the water was turned partly orange.

They sat down arm in arm and just looked at the sunset.

Link was wondering if this was the right time, and maybe, maybe it was. But then again, was it? When is ever the right time? Is there even a wrong time? Probably if she just finished taking a shower would be a bad time. But then again if I was with her in that shower maybe it is a good time.

"What in the world am I thinking? I'm going to do it, let's go."

Before Link reaches into his pockets he grabs his phone and texts somebody.

Some laughs can be heard, but Zelda thinks they are simply by neighbors. So she just relaxes and looks at the sky again, but then again. There was a car following them, she noticed it while in the taxi, it was strange, but before they arrived it turned at a different corner. Her detective instincts probably are just going crazy, all is fine.

"Zelda?"

"Yes, Link. Don't tell me you are hungry we just got here."

"No, well actually I am hungry but that's not what I wanted to say."

"What was it then."

Link inhales heavily, which makes Zelda nervous. He reaches into his pockets and pulls a small box out. He gets onto his knee, looks into Zelda's eyes and says.

"I've loved you for a long time, and we have been through a lot of things together, we fought together we went to hell and back together. I don't know where I would be without you and for that I thank you."

Which each word Zelda's heart pounds faster.

"I don't know how to live without you anymore, and I really don't want to be without you ever again. So Zelda. Will you be my wife and marry me?"

Zelda is too stunned to speak, she doesn't know how to react. For Link, those few seconds of quietness felt like an eternity. Tears were welling up in Zelda's eyes.

"Yes, Link of course! You've saved me so many times emotionally and physically. I can't thank you enough. I love you."

Link jumps up flings his arms around Zelda and kisses her.

When they do that you hear cheering and other people joining the two on the roof. Zelda gets scared and tries to reach for her gun, but obviously, the gun is left at home. Maybe that was a good thing because when she saw who the people were, she recognizes them as their friends.

They are cheering and laughing, some having tears in their eyes.

"What are you guys doing here? I thought this was a spontaneous journey?!"

"Well Zelda, it was but these guys let everything drop when I told them my plan."

"How did they even get here? Were they in our plane?"

Link laughs. "No, of course not they were on another plane here, they arrived before us even."

"But, how? I mean we decided mid-air where to go to?"

"That's what you think. Before I asked you where we want to go, I said things and did things that would let you decide to go to Greece. So while you thought it was your random decision to go here, I made you choose Greece."

"You are terrible Link, how did you do that?"

"I am a Mentalist."

"I guess it was for the better, but now with everyone here, what do we do?"

"WE CELEBRATE!" Everyone screams.

The rest of the night was spent at a beach underneath the moon and the stars. They sang songs, played games, and enjoyed themselves. Of course, there was food there too.

But when everyone got tired and went to their hotel Link and Zelda stayed.

"You know Link. We've been through so much together, we did so many things. But still, I feel like the best things start now. Think of all we've done."

"I agree, we'll have lots of fun. And remember how we even met first? In the academy? You were so confident you could beat me in a sparring match. I still put you on the floor though."

"Of course you bring that up first. I let you win so you would be confident."

"Yes, of course, tell yourself that maybe it will help you sleep at night, my dear. But I must admit, you were always hot, since the first moment we met."

Both laugh for a bit.

"Well since you convinced me that I can't sleep at night knowing you won against me, how about, you show me how hot you think I am and make sure we don't sleep at all tonight"

Zelda winks at Link and he does not hesitate to stand up.

"Of course my lady. Let's be off then."

He picks her up and they rush home, towards the bedroom.

In the end, both were able to accept what happened in the past. The horrible things that had happened, they'd never forget, but they will learn to live with it.

Some days one of them still feels the pain or sees a bloody face on the walls, but they would never be alone again. They will always be there for each other. And that's what it's all about.
