Chapter 6: Home?

Link's House

After Zelda seemed to be sleeping Link woke up again, unable to sleep he goes downstairs and sees Zelda sleeping on the couch.

He saw here like he never did before. Relaxed, completely calm but still beautiful as always.

He was in his own world when he suddenly heard a big crash. His reflexes kicked in and he instantly got ready for all kinds of danger. That's when he relaxed because he saw it was just Zelda that dropped on the floor.

That's when he instantly panicked again and looked at her seeing if she is all right.

Zelda started laughing.

"Oh my goodness, you should've seen the look on your face when I fell."

Link shook his head unable to fully understand what just happened.

"I can't believe you, here I am thinking you got injured but you were just messing with me."

"You were worried about me when I was just laying there as well. I saw you looking."

She sends a devilish smile towards Link. He just scratches the back of his head trying to find an excuse as quickly as possible.

"Eh, I wanted to check if you are okay, nothing else."

"Mhm sure."

"I'm serious!"

Zelda moved a bit to the side pointing towards the new space now next to her.

"Come sit here."

"Wh-"

"Just do it."

"Alright if you want me to."

Zelda opened up her blanket and let Link come under it. They sat next to each other in silence until Zelda finally said what she wanted to say.

"I'm glad you came downstairs."

"And why is that?"

Link looked at her and made it obvious that he was happy but also confused by Zelda's statement.

"I can't sleep. Ever since that day, I couldn't really sleep. Every time I close my eyes I see my family laying lifeless on the ground. I see a big red smiley that seems to enjoy the view. I can't rest, I wasn't able to rest for 5 months."

"I understand, I've been through the same. That's why I wanted you to be here. I want you to not see that face every day."

"But I need to see it!"

"No!"

"You don't know me Link!"

Zelda hissed at Link, she was mad without really wanting to be. She didn't want to be mad at Link she knows he is just trying to help, but she can't stand the thought of letting her family down.

"You don't know anything about me Link and you don't understand anything."

"I'm sorry Zelda. I really am, but I just look at you and see myself. I see all the trouble I went through. I want to help you."

"You can't help me! No one can."

Zelda's madness turned into sadness, she had tears in her eyes and her voice was shaking and weak.

"I can't speak for anyone, but I can speak for me and I can tell you that I know what you went through and that I want to help you as much as I can."

Zelda is now crying and Link tries to fight the urge to wipe her tears off her face.

"Even if I can't help you completely maybe I can be a friend. A friend that knows what you feel and that you can talk to, someone who is there for you. That's what I needed and what you need as well."

Link looked Zelda in her eye while she was crying, her eyes were so clear he felt like he could look straight into her soul. He saw a lot of things, he saw pain, fear, and a lot of hate. He saw what she felt, and he knew he needs to help her, he knows from that moment on that he wouldn't leave her side, not until she is fine again at least.

"A friend?"

"A friend or whatever you need. I can be your punchbag, your teacher, I can be your home a place where you feel safe and where you feel free again."

"A home? A place to feel safe sounds nice."

Her eyes slowly started to dry again. Link got the courage to wipe her tears away but removed his hand as soon as he could again.

"I know and I will become whatever you need me to be. I want to help you, I want to give you the help you need and you deserve."

Zelda felt herself going towards Link again she looked him deep into the eye so he could see what she said would be of a big meaning to her.

"I know what I need right now."

"And that is?"

"A hug."

Link didn't hesitate and instantly pulled Zelda closer to him hugging her tight. He remembered the weight she had when they fought back in his academy days. He felt like she was half the weight now.

She's going to be fine, I will help her as much as I can, we can get things right again together. These were Link's thoughts before Zelda started talking again.

"Link?"

"Yea?"

"I need a home."

"I know."

"Can I live here?"

"Like move in?"

Link backed out of the hug, instantly feeling cold. He looked her in the eyes to see if she was really serious about her request.

"Yes, but only if you fully agree. I don't want to be a burden for you."

"You're not a burden, not with the weight of yours."

Zelda backed off looking at Link with a serious face, but after looking at Link for a short time she couldn't hold back a small giggle. Link had to laugh himself now too.

"Not funny Link."

"I'm sorry but you are way more light than when, I completely destroyed you at the police academy."

"Ohhhh, I see how it is. You do know that I just let you win, I didn't want to embarrass you."

Zelda knew she was lying but tried to play it off as seriously as possible.

"Mhm sure. You can admit it, I outsmart you."

"You are pretty smart. I gotta give you that."

"Why thank you Zelda, a big compliment coming from you."

"You're welcome, Mr. Link."

Both laughed Zelda didn't even realize that she was now resting against Link's shoulder with the back of her head.

"What do you usually do when you can't sleep, Zelda?"

Link didn't want to break the atmosphere between them but also wanted to help her feel more comfortable at the new locations, he, of course, didn't know she laughed more in the last few minutes than she did since the day she lost her family. She felt comfortable in Link's arms like she didn't in forever.

"Nothing. Laying and waiting until I have to work again."

"Okay well, I can't say I didn't expect that doesn't mean it is good. Let's get you a new ,,not able to sleep habit"."

"And what would that be?"

"Music. There is nothing better than the right music at the right time especially at night, there are no side sounds just the dark and the music."

"And what song is the right one for now?"

"Let's see what I got. Uhhhh how about Magic by Coldplay?"

Link just realized what the lyrics say and with that what he just said to Zelda. His face started blushing and he tried to correct himself.

"Eh I mean because it's a slow and good song, you know?"

"Yeah I know, and I love Coldplay."

"You do? It's my second favorite band or music artist."

"Yes I love them, they make so good music you can listen to them when you feel sad or when you feel happy they got something for every situation."

Link turned the music on and they both just lay back together resting underneath the blanket, staring into the dark.

Other than the music it's completely quiet. No talking, no streets nothing just the beautiful music. Not something Zelda was used to. She always had the loud street next to her.

Maybe Link is able to help me, maybe this is the best thing to do for now.

My life could only get better from this point on right?

Zelda thought shortly before falling asleep on Link's chest.
