The Desires of the Heart

Must I consider the feathers

Resting in my palms together?

Talons dig in skin now leather,

I am its debtor,

To it I am tethered―

Forever.

Please understand!

I know I'd disband

Without it's gentle brand

Pressing in my hand,

All of its command

I can not withstand.

It gave me roses red,

Stole my devotion wed,

From the thorns I bled

Though don't be mislead,

I don't dread

My fate ahead.

Sure, my bones have dried,

On brittle dust I ride,

Support it can not provide.

But all that aside,

On the crow I relied―

My wants it supplied.

The crow pays no mind,

It knows we're entwined,

So instead it reclined,

Tucks itself behind

Its wing so shined,

But―I don't count it unkind.

I am shattered

Faded from battered,

Slower, my heart pattered,

Ashes near scattered,

But none of that mattered,

Since―I was flattered.
