6. Memories

I heard the door open and Alura's head followed mine in an upward arc. Skyla had just come out of the room, her eyes a little red from crying.
"What happened in there?... N-Nothing, really.." She lied. My purple eyes narrowed.

"Are you sure?" I said in a low tone. Skyla looked down and was quiet for a minute, but then she spoke.
"Yeah. I'm sure."

Thoughts ran through my mind. She was lying. "You're lying, I can tell." Skyla shook her head, still looking down.
"N-No I'm not."

"You are. I can see it in your body language, eye movements and stammering. Stop it, it's infuriating. Now tell me what's wrong." I glared at her, expecting a sassy comeback. Skyla looked up.

"Fine.. I am.. does it really matter?"

"Yes, it does. Now tell me what happened."
"Nothing.. happened.."

I looked down at her again, a stern look crossing my face.

"Tell me the truth." Skyla sighed.

"The interrogation sort of turned into a personal conversation between the two of us.. but on L's behalf I don't think I can tell you what we said. I would if it was anything else, but honestly it would be best for me and probably L too if you found out with time instead of us telling you." I nodded, my face softening ever so slightly.

"I understand. That is the only way to truly become close to you." Skyla smiled a little and looked down, before finding herself hugging me and burying her head into my shirt so no one could see her tears.
"T-Thank you.."

I hugged her back. I looked at Alura and saw a hint of jealousy in her eyes. "What's wrong, Alura?" I asked, the concern clear in my voice. She just shook her head, saying nothing. My eyebrows creased. Clearly something was up with her. She looked down and continued to day dream, her green eyes staring at nothing but her mouth tracing words. Her body was trembling all over. Skyla let go of me, and stepped back very slightly and, still looking down, started to wipe her eyes with her sleeves. I leaned down and helped her. I genuinely felt really sorry for making her cry. Skyla looked up at me, a few tears still in her eyes.
"I'm.. f-fine now.."

I looked into her red eyes.
"I'm so sorry for making you cry, I should not have done that..." A few tears of my own welled into my eyes. I blinked them away as hard and fast as I could. Skyla smiled softly, and a little sadly.
"It's okay.. it wasn't you... just.. memories."

"I completely understand..." I had some bad memories of my own. For one, I was excluded from Heaven for loving one soul that had split into two people. Another, when I donned my armour, I didn't know who I was any more. I had killed so many innocent people, and the blood; the screams... Oh, how those screams tortured me... Their faces haunted my dreams. Skyla smiled softly up at him, before turning to face Alura.
"Should we all go home, then?" I nodded. I noticed that Alura still had a hint of jealousy in her eyes. Mental note: corner Alura and ask her about the jealousy she feels. Maybe I was wrong and it was nothing.
