Chapter 45
The Great Fighting Festival
As you walked through the enormous hole your Obliteration ability had created, your body was suddenly shadowed as a large head had peered inside the new hole in the apparently-impenetrable rock wall.
"(Y/n)!! You're here!" Diane reached it with so much excitement and snatched you up in her braced hand, her fingers curling around your body as she lifted you out. You started laughing uncontrollably at the sight of her delightfully gleeful face.
"You made it" Gilthunder was below you, with Howzer at his side, both wearing similar black vests and long white shirts like Meliodas used to wear. It was rather an amusing sight, Gilthunder's hair had been cut in a pink bowl-cut, and he looked up at you with a half-pulled smile.
"Not even Matrona could break down that wall!" Diane snuggled her large but button nose into your face, with all your laughing you'd begun to hiccup when her cuddling had become rather smothering.
"Well, *hic* I think my wish came true" You pointed over, "I think I got too excited cause I busted through one more wall".
Ban began to laugh as well as your giant best friend put you down gently beside Hawk, who you waved briefly at.
Through the new tunnel, your group could see the outlines of many silhouettes waiting in a clearing on the other side. All of them stood looking up at two more recognisable figures; the Commandment of Repose, and the Commandment of Patience.
"Looks like all of the players have been assembled!" A small figure wrapped in a monstrosity of tentacles, glinted violet eyes down to the combatants below. "Let the games begin!!"
"King!" Your wings broke quickly out of your thin back and beat once as your figure was flung forcefully towards the fairy you'd spotted the second you'd exited through the hole your magic had blown through in the maze.
The King of the forest spun around fast enough to make himself dizzy and had barely compose himself before he was knocked out of the sky and slammed to the ground with you on top of him. You hummed loudly in utter euphoria as you arms clenched tightly around him.
"Ah (Y/n), thank the sun you're all better" Though his face was flushed as red as scarlet and his small hands tapped nervously against the small of your upper back, he floated himself up taking you with him, and re-set your feet onto the grass.
"Oslo came and got me! Did you send me these clothes?" You withdrew just enough from the russet-haired fae just enough for him to admire the clothing adorning your perfect figure (clothing was from the last chapter's picture, either outfit).
"Oh, yeah well, I picked it up when I made that short trip back to the forest to check on everyone" King rubbed the bottom of his nose with his index finger as you leaned back slightly and slipped your arms behind your back to listen to him.
"Elaine you're here too?" You noticed the blonde girl had been silently approaching from your side, floating of equal height to her brother. She had a similar outfit to Ban on, a green tunic that had been fitted as a dress that draped rather beautifully around her form.
"(Y/n)!" Elaine jumped into your open arms and you spun round and round until you both felt sick, as you let you, Arthur wandered up beside you to tap you on the shoulder.
"Um... I want to tal-" The King of Camelot was interrupted when a battle born sounded so loud it caused the entire crowd of unknowing warriors was called to attention by the two figures lurking on one of the pillars above them.
"Ladies and gentleman of every species and race! Welcome to the FINEST in time-wasting.... I mean, the Fighting Festival!" The young man wrapped in tentacles so violent in nature they curled over each other and his body, constricting and twisting like the bodies of extensive boa snakes. "First off we're going to—"
"UH! EXCUSE ME! Hold on a bloody minute why don't ya!? Me friends and I got a question I think we need answered before we get on with this ol' farce?" His accent was strange and he appeared to be a knight wearing a crest you'd never seen before. "I think we need some proof of what you said about granting the winners wishes, otherwise I don't see the point in this bloody maze!"
You tapped your lip curiously as you looked at the stranger and three of his similarly dressed companions, I guess I still haven't seen everything.
(2000+ years ago)
"What are you thinking about angel?" Meliodas dropped down by your side on the roof of the little inn you'd been staying in, and handed you half of a fresh bread roll.
Your little legs kicked back and forth over the edge of the wooden roof as your back leant, staring up at the early morning sky. A beautiful collage of sea foam pinks and the twinkling lights of stars a million miles above your head.
"How I will die" You uttered softly, but you didn't sound upset, which shocked Meliodas instantly and his blonde hair whirled around to look at your little face.
"You don't need to think about those kinds of things" Meliodas spoke having already taken a bite of his bread, so his words were slightly muffled despite how important his words seemed. Your fingers wrapped around the warm, crisp surface of the bread and continued to watch the transformation of the sky above you. Slowly but surely, the hues of the morning's ever blue was starting to appear in the landscape of the upwards horizon.
"I'm not saying it will be any time soon Melio" Your voice made a cute giggle and rolled over slightly to face the larger face of the Dragon sin. Meliodas moved onto his side as well, reaching out in front of him to brush a loose strand of (H/c) hair out of your eyes.
"I love birthdays..." You began, absently reaching back with your small arm to draw your fingers over the spikes offsets of the Captain's blonde head. "I don't think I ever thought about my birthdays this way, until now..." You dropped your other shoulder against the wooden planks of the roof as you lay on your back once again. "I guess it isn't until you meet someone who's mortal do you realise just how meaningless countless birthdays are".
"What are you saying angel-baby? You know that ever year you have here, every birthday, is important, right!" Meliodas bumped your shoulder gently and it made you smile, drawing a warm flood of red to your cheeks as he tried to make light of what you were trying to say.
"I want to tell you a secret Meliodas, a little wish of mine" You tore off a piece of the bread and ate it while the sin sat up just enough to scooch closer to you. "I want to die at the edge of the world.. where there's an end to the light and the dark, and the trees and the birds" You stretched your arm up towards the morning dawn sky, riddled with the vibrant pinks and oranges as the sun approached. "When this place has shown me everything it has to offer. Great cities, music, art... all of the genuine beauty I've yet to see in this world".
Your doe-(E/c) eyes walked the vast vault of heaven before falling on its spectral opposite, the demon of wrath who stared only at you.
"I'll have a thousand more birthdays".
Looking up at Gloxinia, draped in his tangles of olive-green tentacles, you noticed the spike of anger in his face. "AS I was saying... lets get started by preparing the stage you'll be fighting on! Take it away Drole!!"
The giant man, bigger than any giant you'd seen, drew his two sets of cyan-skinned arms above his head, and the earth began to shake like the summoning of your Beast Configerations. But, instead of a desert beast, or a tree from which a serpent cracked out of, two gigantic stone hands emerged from the ground either side of the demon's rock pedestal.
"Marvellous work!" Gloxinia's tentacles seemed to wave amongst themselves, coiling around like lubricated cables curling in a working machine. "I want to get this ball rolling right away, so I think we'll stick to the combatants we've got assembled here". Time seemed to slow around the Commandment, the spurs of his moving armour seemed to withdraw away from him and two small hands poked out from the wrap. "With that said... I'll go ahead and eradicate the remaining pests from the maze".
Fear pulsed through your chest as the nostalgic glow of the demon's eyes glazed over, much like that had long ago, when you considered these creatures your friends. There was a high, loud whistling sound as the winds began to turn against their natural forces. A hurricane was beginning to form around in the centre of these two stone hands, and at its eye... Gloxinia cackled.
"That's... thats... the magic I'm feeling coming off of that monster is... without a doubt.. fairy folk" King was stuttering as he floated in the centre of your group, he looked like he was going to move closer. After all, you could all suddenly smell the enticing floral aroma this wind seemed to have disturbed out of the skin of Gloxinia, who's natural scent would usually be masked by his tentacles.
"That scent... it reminds me of something" Matrona back muscles seemed to tense as her hands in their gauntlets dropped down from her sides, "is that, ginger?"
As a black mist took up residence swirling around the tornado, forming tighter and tighter lines like the strings on a violin, you threw your arms up over your head and light exploded out of your hands, forming a falling shield that draped over all of your friends.
Elizabeth tried to mimic you and managed to use a bit of her power to also help keep the shield up, fearful of what might happen as stones were throuwn viciously against the glowing-class like half sphere you;d encased yourselves in.
"Spirit Spear Basquias, 9th Form... DEATH THORN" Gloxinia's wicked tongue thrashed as his glowing eyes pierced through the middle of the hurricane of darkness.
The winds converged instantly into a ball that appeared like a Black Sea urchin, at least 10 metres by 10 metres in diameter. From it, thousands of black spikes stretched out like they were pieces of silly string being pulled sprayed out from string cans. Or the web of a spider being expelled from the back of the arachnid.
"All the lives in the labyrinth... suddenly vanished" One of the Holy Knights hidden under your shield, a short man who seemed far to young for the power you could feel he was wielding.
Your eyes were on the current King of the Fairy Forest, who was radiated a aggressed heat from where he floated just in front of you. "The Death Thorn is the fearsome briar that grows in the upper branches of the Sacred Tree, just below where the Beast Configurations grew in the Realm of the Gods. It can destroy threats even Sunflower cannot eliminate".
Your fingers began to feel cold from the amount of energy you were using to maintain the shield while the void-black vines struck fleetingly against the sphere.
"And... and Basquias is the legendary Spirit Spear granted to the first person chosen by the Sacred Tree" Elaine looked to her brother as he spoke, fear in her eyes, "How.. how are you still here?! I thought you lost your life in a battle 3000 years ago!"
"You're right.. King" You grunted as the vines withdrew and you could finally drop the shield, "He's the first Fairy King, Gloxinia".
As the vines and hurricane faded to nothing, so did the tentacles like a mirage in a dark dessert, falling away like black sand. With the concealment lost to the wind, everyone could see the kaleidoscope of vibrant colours of the demon fairy's wings, as they began to glow in the night.
"I haven't heard that name in a long time..." The dead fairy king threw back his head with a mighty laugh for such a small body, "Ha ha ha! So this is the new King you spoke of (Y/n), I thought you'd be bigger HARLEQUIN!"
