Chapter 3 - Young Immortal Hearts
Young Immortal Hearts
There was a massive shock of energy as the electricity left the ground. After a beat you watched a massive stream of water erupt out in the main square, down the road to you. All the people gathered around the water begin to cheer wildly while you hurried back towards the forest before someone noticed you.
Flying over to Diane's sleeping body, you landed gently beside her face before resting your hand on her burning forehead. A golden light emanating from your hand again as Diane smiles as she wakes up, "my headache's gone."
"Glad I could help" you reply, setting the basket down on the ground.
The Sin of Envy nudges the rockmelon with her index finger, "Can you peel it for me?"
You smile and nod, moving your hand, a dagger materialises in front of you and slices the thick skin off the fruit. It falls in heavy flakes to the forest floor. As you throw it up to her, the giant catches the melon between her fingers and tosses it into her mouth.
She mumbles happily, "this is so good!"
After hours of talking, catching up, and laughing about old times, you could see Diane was starting to get tired. Her hypersomnia might be getting to her. "Maybe you should have a little nap Diane?".
Without much prying, the brunette agreed and yawned, stretching her huge arms into the air before curling up on her side.
The sight of her looking so peaceful made you feel sleepy too, as you yawned and flew around her to snuggle into the space between her neck and ponytail. Your small body hidden from view as you ruffled your soft feathers.
Diane giggles and you cover your mouth in a yawn, then you both close your eyes... and rest.
"DIANE! DIANE! SORRY WE'VE LET A HOLY KNIGHT THROUGH AGAIN!"
You woke up quickly at the sound of the imps screaming, Holy Knight? Where? Rubbing the sleep from your eyes, the giant sits up abruptly.
In her sleep-deprived confusion, Diane swiped up the closest figure in front of her and held it to her face, growling forebodingly, "Are you a HOLY KNIGHT?"
Moving some of her hair aside so you can poke your head out, you caught sight of a family boy in Diane's iron grip, "oh" you say, dumbstruck, "Meliodas, you're here."
The blonde boy in Diane's hands instantly snapped his head to look to you, a massive grin breaking out on his pretty face, the sound of your name on his lips filling you with butterflies once again. "You are here!" As he tries to wiggle out of Diane's grip, the giant quickly realises and hurriedly cuddles the boy into her cheek.
"OH CAPTAIN! You came for us!" Her cheeks turn into fields of pink, "it's like a dream come true!" Standing up to her full height, your wings quickly extended to balance before you sat up on her shoulder.
"Whoa who's that?" a squeal sounded out below you and you looked down to see a large pig and a young girl looking up at you. The girl looking about your age in human years, standing on the ground at Diane's feet.
Your turn your head, "the pig talks?" you mutter. Diane isn't paying attention to the sound of your voice as her eyes caught sight of the boar and she began to salivate.
"Oh captain! You remembered how much I love roast pig!" Diane 'eep'ed and let go of the boy, who instantly made a jump for her collarbone, crawling up to sit beside you. He fixed himself with his legs split either side of her shoulder as he turned his back to the giant's head to look at your face as you smiled.
"What's been happening angel?" he says cheerfully, you pinch the end of your thumb to reduce your blush, you had forgotten the effect that nickname had on you when he said it.
You smiled, but Diane interrupts you before you could speak, "Who are you?"
Turning your head, you looked down to see the silverette Diane was addressing, now noticing the skimpy pink and black outfit she adorned with a matching confused look on her face. The pig trotted up beside her.
"Oh" the silverette said in a high voice, "I'm Elizabeth, nice to meet you, Lady Diane".
Elizabeth clutched her hands together, inadvertently pushing her chest up so it appeared larger. Meliodas would sure be a fan of her.
But when you looked back to the Sin of Wrath hoping to catch him staring at the display, he was only looking at you. Probably the softest smile on his face as he cocked his head to the side, studying every element of your face.
"I missed you" he said softly, you giggled and ruffled his hair, not used to the quieter side of him. You certainly hadn't seen it in a while.
"I missed you too" you said in return, he grins wider and is about to talk when he's suddenly snatched off by a large arm and thrown like a shot-put to the earth.
"WOMANISER!" Diane yelled with tears in her bright purple eyes. As the blonde hit the ground violently, it split and sunk around his body at the force.
You tapped Diane's cheek with your hand, "What did I miss?"
Diane panted, obviously enraged by something, "The Captain has been travelling ALONE with this GIRL in his tavern!" She slumped down to her knees and covered her hands with her eyes. As she called out your name for you to comfort her, your heart sunk at her crying.
"Ok" you nod, and fluttered up to stroke her hair comfortingly, hovering in front of her partially-covered face.
"HUH?!!" You hear the pig squeal in panic at the sound of your name, though you chose to ignore it over hushing Diane's tearful sniffs. "That's the fallen angel?! Aren't you supposed to be a goddess' daughter?"
You glare over your shoulder at the swine, "What? Are you disappointed?"
The pig shook his head, "No, you look like an old woman in your wanted poster, so I didn't expect you to be so pretty."
You shrug and pat Diane's forehead, your gaze turning back to Meliodas as he crawled out of the hole he had smashed in, "She's always been pretty Hawk"
"I thought I had been reunited with my love" Diane sulked, shaking her head, "Captain you cheater! Why are you with this other woman? Explain yourself!"
You look down to Meliodas, feeling a little upset yourself as you stared at him.
"There's nothing to explain-" Before he could finish Diane began to pummel him once again into the ground by her fists. Looking over at Elizabeth, you crossed your arms, floating in the air with your elegant wings fanned out.
Meliodas jumped to his feet once Diane had gotten in enough punches, brushing the dirt off his clothes, "Elizabeth is just searching for the Seven Deadly Sins, to stop the Holy Knights".
You sighed with relief, but Meliodas caught you and winked at you. What is he up to? Diane hid her face behind your wings in embarrassment, "Oh, I read that wrong, sorry for my outburst".
"You haven't changed a bit" Meliodas chuckled.
"I'm sorry, how rude of me" Elizabeth held her fingers to her neck, "forgive me for not introducing myself" You noticed she was talking to you, a bright smile on her face.
"That's alright" You lowered yourself til your feet hit the ground, like a leaf landing on still water, and introduced yourself with just your name, and your hands behind your back.
"It's great to finally meet you! My name is Elizabeth, Elizabeth Liones" she says innocently and bows, the pig snorts out a frustrated puff of smoke.
"Princess Elizabeth?" you ask.
"Yes"
Diane crouched down further to lean over her knees to Elizabeth, "so, you're not in that kind of relationship with the Captain?"
"Of course not" Meliodas says matter-o-factly, crossing his arms as he walks over to stand between Elizabeth and Diane, "but remember neither are you and I".
You giggle as Diane hunches over sadly at his words. "Oh, he doesn't deserve you Diane". You pat her on the head and she sniffs.
Meliodas looked unamused, "What is that supposed to mean?"
You winked at him and laughed, cuddling Diane's head til she stopped crying. After a few minutes and Diane had calmed down, she crossed her legs and silently finished the food in your basket.
"Hey" Meliodas says as he walks over to you, "I have a question about what went down 10 years ago".
You bump the side of your head with your hand, "bit of a foggy memory I'm afraid Melio", he smirks at the nickname but nods. Realising you probably didn't want to talk about it in your current company. You withdrew your wings into your back, which scared Hawk so much the pig smacked its rump into a tree as it ran backwards.
"So, you going to come along?" Meliodas looks up to Diane in a relaxed stance.
She looks to you and you give an assuring nod, a massive smiles crawls up onto her face, "Sure! I Diane, Serpent Sin of Envy will help you find the other Sins". She crushes her fingers together in a powerful fist, looking right at Elizabeth, "but, I'm only doing it for my best friend, and my Captain".
"That's good enough for me" the boy shrugs, Elizabeth looks like she's going to faint. "What about you angel?" he gives you an almost pleading look, like he's unsure you would agree to travel with him again.
You smile warmly, "ok".
(2500+ years ago)
You giggle and hold your teddy between your small crossed arms as you sprint as fast as your little legs will carry you down the winding tree root. "You can't catch me Meliodas!"
Jumping to another branch, you land in a well-balanced position, all the while continuing your sprint through the fairy forest. You couldn't hear his footsteps behind you so you laughed, I've lost him!
As you jump to land on the forest floor, you begin to run looking backwards, your feet carrying you as you try to establish where your blonde knight had gone. Did he leave or something? He was right behind me a moment ago?
You gasp as your front foot doesn't meet the ground, as you turn your head back around, your worst fear becomes you. Your body was right out over a cliff, one miles high with the rest of the forest stretching out far below it. You screamed, clutching your teddy as you realised just how high you were, now in the air and beginning to fall. You closed your eyes, refusing to look anywhere, especially down. You cried out Meliodas' name, your young high voice a frightened melody over the numinous jungle. Your wings were still too small, and you felt like a baby bird as the wind whistled against your ears.
Your body knocked forward in momentum as a hand grabbed the back of your dress, one of your boots slipped off your foot and disappeared below you. Suddenly the hand launched you back up in to the air and you were caught in the embrace of familiar arms. You let go of your teddy and your arms clung tightly to the boy's hair, getting knotted in your small fists. Meliodas slumped back against one of the trees, holding you snugly as you cried into his neck.
He rubbed your back in an effort to comfort you, "Its ok, I've got you".
"Meliodas," you tugged his hair more. He tried to pull you closer, his larger face burying itself into your shaking shoulder.
"Your safe now angel" he said, though his heart was beating nearly as fast as yours.
He had been following you through the trees in an effort to catch you off guard in your game of tag. Though he had never imagined he would have to witness as you unknowingly strode out over the edge of the cliff. But now she was back safe in his arms, he could feel all his anger and fear dissipating as he kissed her hair. You just have that effect on me, don't you angel?
The Sin of Wrath smiled in relief, and you both stay like that for a while, neither of you wanting to move.
"Great!" Meliodas replied and stuck a thumb up at you, Elizabeth smiled as well.
Your ears twitched as you felt a wind strong enough to knock the branches in the trees together, and pig gasped "I smell rain."
Elizabeth yelped and you watch as a massive bolt of lightening crackles down and strikes all of you, encasing each of you in a net of lightening. Essentially paralyzing you. You looked to Meliodas, his finger held to his lip in a silencing motion before firmly jabbing it back into his pocket. You nod, I guess he doesn't want us to break out just yet.
Diane looked down at you both, "Are you guys ok?" The lightning crackled around her like a halo of caging energy.
You smile at her and wink, "fine Diane". Diane smirks and nods.
Elizabeth and the pig however, didn't look so good. The pig especially, as it was beginning to turn brown and smell like bacon.
An armoured figure walks out from behind one of the trees, his large sword dragging by his side, "We meet at last, Sins".
The figure was a relatively tall man with short pink hair. His armour was silver with dark blue patterns and his upper body armor was carved with several crosses and the symbol of the Holy Knights. He frowns at you all, but as his eyes catch yours he looks shocked.
The Holy Knight hadn't seen you before because you had been behind Meliodas, but he seemed to look at you very differently now, especially compared to his glare for the sins.
Diane growled, "Then this power, that means your a..."
"No doubt" Meliodas finished, "a Holy Knight".
Your breath caught, voice so quiet that only Meliodas caught your voice, "Gil?"
Sorry for the wait!!! I wanted to make this my longest chapter yet! MISSION SUCESSFUL!
Comment any suggestions you have for flashbacks I can do with Meliodas and young you in the Fairy Forest. :)))
