Chapter 5-My protector
(Christine's POV)
I carried little Diane into the ballet dormitories after I finished the story for her and laid her into her bed. I carefully unbuttoned her tutu and loosened up the rest of her dress. My fingers grabbed the edge of the simple cloth that Diane used as a cover and draped it over her sleeping form. She was so peaceful. I feel like I matured a lot thanks to her.
Suddenly, a pair of the other ballet girls barged into the room. Their step was unsure and a bit wonky. With them came a familiar scent.
"You have gotten drunk again, am I right?" I asked more for myself then towards them, because I knew they would go in their way anyways. For security's sake, I blocked Diane's sleeping body with my own, ready to defend myself if it was needed. I have experienced a situation like this far too many times, so I knew what to do.
"Christine, don't be so cocky..." one of them said, interrupted by a hiccup coming out of her mouth. That must have seemed funny to the other intoxicated girl, because she started laughing. And as you know, when intoxicated, the laughter spreads faster. Soon, both girls were rolling on the ground and laughing.
I knew that was my time to act. I quickly grabbed Diane in her blanket and ran out of the room. I ran to Madame Valerius, where I would leave Diane to sleep for the night. I softly knocked on the door and our mother figure opened it.
"Christine? What are you doing here so late?" Although it was late, she was still talking kindly to us both.
"Madame, a few of the ballet girls that live with us in the room have gotten drunk again. So, I carried Diane here, I didn't want her to get harmed." And with those words, I put the sleeping girl into Madame Valerius's embrace. She carried her to a soft velvet couch and tucked her in. I thanked her and closed the door behind me.
I didn't want to spend the night with two completely drunk girls interrupting my sleep, so I headed towards the chapel. It has become quite the paradise for me. No company, no loud-mouthed ballet rats, peace and the company of a beautiful stained glass window which had a picture of a beautiful angel on it. Til today, I think it is the Angel of Music on that window. Oh, how I wish to hear that forever silent companion of mine speak my name and sing in my dreams.
I found my blanked that I always had prepared in the chapel and layed down underneath the window. As my eyes were heavy with sleep, I entwined my fingers and whispered a silent prayer:
God, please protect me in my sleep and if you can't, just send me my Angel of Music. That is all I ask...
As my eyelids almost closed, I heard a heavenly voice quietly singing my name.
"Christine...Christine..."
My eyes immediately opened wide and my mouth was slightly agape. I sat up slowly and looked up, from where the voice was coming.
"Angel of Music?" Was the only thing that I was able to get out of my mouth.
"Christine..." a soft whisper came from above. I started trembling. I felt so blessed at the moment. My sight went blurry and I felt myself falling. I almost taught that I will hit the cold stone ground, but a strong figure has caught me. Before my senses went out, I heard one last whisper.
"Do not be afraid my dear, I won't hurt you...you are safe in the embrace of your angel."

PS: I inserted some music that I thought would be fitting for when Christine comes into the chapel alone and prays for the Angel of Music to come.
