Chapter Nine
Austin sat in complete silence, anxious to hear her answer. In case he ever liked her, her answer could possibly be good. If she said no, then his ego would be bruised.
"Yeah, he's a nice guy."
He let out a sigh of relief as the game slowly came to an end, moving onto random topics and taking pictures.
"Ew, delete that, I look weird."
"Don't forget to tag me!"
"I look great in this picture."
"Oh shit, my dad's gonna kill me if I miss curfew." Trent muttered as he kept scrolling through his Instagram.
"So, how about I take you on a date?" Austin asked, poking her side while smiling at her.
Lyla let out a laugh as Brittney waved her hands, urging her to say yes, "Sure, what did you have in mind?"
"Oh, I didn't think you'd say yes, but how about-"
Tiffany stood up, "Come on, it's getting late and I have work in the morning children."
"You're only a year older than us." Zoey murmured as she began gathering the bags.
The boys began putting out the fire, kicking sand over it as the girls walked back to the cars. Chattering and making remarks as they put the stuff in the back, piling into the cars they arrived in.
"Hey, can someone else drive? I'm pretty tired." The red haired woman yawned, holding her keys out as Trent took them from her.
Turning the key as the engine purred to life, driving back to where they came from.
'I really don't want this day to end.' Lyla thought as she stared out the window, her phone vibrating in her lap as she glanced at the message.
Shaking her head as she covered her mouth, Lyla made eye contact with Austin before smiling. So maybe she did like him, he was cute and nice after all.
Trent turned on the radio to mask the silence as he began bopping along to Harry Styles song, "Sign of The Times".
"Wait, you love this song too?!" Austin exclaimed as Lyla stared wide-eyed at them both.
"Hell yeah, I do! This song is masterpiece!"
"How about his song 'From The Dining Table'?!"
"Dude, I love them all! The guy is a genius when it comes to writing songs."
Lyla just laughed as the two boys began wailing to the song, hitting the soft and high notes. Tiffany, who was trying to sleep, kept glaring at them. The blond haired boy rolled down the windows, blaring the music as their friends in the other car sang along. Zoey and Lana making sure to catch it all on snapchat to post.
As the song came to an end, everyone was catching their breath as 'Kiwi' came on, getting them all pumped again.
"You know, why did he name it Kiwi when it's not-she worked her way through a cheap pack of cigarettes."
"So, do you have all of his songs on your spotify?" The brunette asked, smiling as the city lights came into view.
"Austin, take the next! And yes I do, so I was a directioner, so what? You gonna tease me about it?"
"Oh no, not at all." Her tone held a hint of amusement as she began laughing. Feeling happier than she had her whole life.
She had a feeling it was gonna be a great summer, but would it still be the same if Austin hadn't moved here?
Her answer: probably not. Since no one else would help Trent sing along to Harry Styles songs.
