Chapter Eight
As the day went on, people began to leave the beach as they got tired or bored. The sun sinking lower into the sky as the teens laughed the day away, happiness written across their faces. Tan lines were evident on the girls as they cringed in pain from the sunburns.
"We look like Donna and Jackie from 'That 70's Show'." Tiffany seethed as her red shoulders almost matched her hair.
"Told you that you should've put on sunscreen." Brittney teased as Zoey threw the ball at her face, "Well, ow."
The boys began to arrive as they carried wood in their arms, settling it down on the sandy beach. Trent digging around in one of the bags for a lighter or matches.
"Are we allowed to start a bonfire on the beach?"
"No clue." Trent answered as he flicked the match onto the wood.
"We see it happen all the time in teen movies." Austin stated as he tugged the towel over him.
"Does that mean we're in a movie?" Brittney whispered as she looked each of them in the eye before they all bursted out in laughter.
"That's hilarious, Britt. Besides, who would cast us in a movie? We're all too good looking." Lana nudged the raven haired female with her elbow.
"Yeah, but have you ever noticed that the adults barely exist in teen movies?" Lyla remarked, removing the towel from her hair.
Zoey slapped her knee, "Nothing exists except for the two main characters falling in love and someone coming in with the love triangle."
Everyone agreed, which set them off into a debate about unrealistic teen movies. Promptly beginning to chatter amongst themselves.
"Psst."
Lyla looked back and forth before pointing to herself, which Austin nodded in response.
"Today was fun, thanks for inviting me." He smiled, scooting closer to male sure no one else hears.
"No problem." She smiled, "I figured you could use a chance to meet some people, make new friends, before school starts."
"Oh, uh-"
"Okay children, we all know the real reason why we're here." Tiffany started, grabbing something from her bag.
"That better not be what I think it is." Jack warned as she slowly retrieved her hand out.
"Well, nevermind then, so let's play truth or dare."
All the guys started whooping and cheering as the girls just groaned, knowing the dares that would most likely happen.
"Ladies, I will start." Jack grinned, throwing an arm around his girlfriend's shoulder, "Brittney, truth or dare."
"Truth, you idiot." She mocked glared at him.
"Who do you love?" A hint of amusement in his voice as he inched closer to her face.
"Well obviously it's Lana, been with her since day one."
"I always knew you loved me." She replied as a hint of a smile tugged at her features.
Lyla and Austin kept talking to each other, paying no attention to the game in front of them.
"Hey Austin, truth or dare?" Zoey asked the distracted boy.
"Uh, dare."
"I dare you to...to..." The pink haired girl trailed off before her eyes landed on Lyla, a smirk forming, "To ask out Lyla."
"Oooh." The crowd murmured as his face turned red. Glancing at Lyla to notice a hint of blush creeping up on her neck.
"Oh, uh, um, Lyla, will you...go out with me?" His voice cracked near the end, unsure of what to do.
Lyla shrugged, "Sure, why not."
Everyone cheered in response as the two just rolled their eyes and went back to their conversation, not caring if it was their turn.
"So you would go out with me?" The brown eyed boy asked, wiggling his eyebrows.
The girl laughed, placing her hand over her mouth, "Only if you teach me how to do something interesting."
"Well, depends on what you find interesting, I can teach you how to play guitar. I'm not very good at it, just know the basics."
"Yes! I've always wanted to learn how to play an instrument."
Austin raised an eyebrow, "Really? How come?"
"I gotta keep up my artsy aesthetic somehow." Lyla teased, poking his cheek as she began to giggle, "No, but uh, in all seriousness, I do want to learn how to play an instrument. Seems like it would be fun."
A whistle was heard from Tiffany as she gained their attention, "Lyla, truth or dare."
"Truth."
"Do you see yourself dating Austin?"
