Chapter Two
"Who's a good boy?" Agnar grinned as he fed a little puppy dog treats that had wandered into his tent. Apollo looked up from the book he was reading, raising an eyebrow.
"You have got to stop getting so attached to random animals you find."
Agnar scoffed with a smirk.
"Never! They are all my children," he made a typical baby voice as he held up the little dog. "Aren't you? Aren't you? Yes you are. Yes you are!" The little dog barked happily in his arms. It was a very fluffy pomeranian - and oddly friendly. Agnar shuffled closer to Apollo, smirking wider as he held the puppy closer to his companion.
"You know you love him."
"I do not," Apollo grumbled, making Agnar only hold him closer.
"...Okay, maybe a little."
Agnar snickered, placing the squirming puppy onto Apollo's lap. The man panicked, unsure of what to do.
"How do I - what do I -" but before he could say anything else, the dog started to lick his face. Agnar giggled.
"He likes you! I'm gonna call him…," he thought for a second.
"...Apollo the second. Nonono- the first. "
Apollo squinted his eyes.
"I'm- he- the first? How is he the first? I came first!"
Agnar whistled.
"Oh, no reason. Just wanted to see if I could make you jealous.." Apollo huffed and crossed his arms.
"Awww. Don't be like that."
"Mmm, no. I'm mad at you."
The puppy started to lick Apollo's face again.
"I was only joking about the name," Agnar clarified with a chuckle. Apollo rolled his eyes with a smile.
"Somehow I knew that. What are you actually calling him?"
"Buddy! It's cute."
Apollo looked at Agnar with a kind expression.
"That it is."
Suddenly a young woman came into the tent, startling the two men.
"Sorry, sorry," she smiled a little, taking off her coat and letting her long, black, curly hair down.
"Mira!" Agnar happily cheered, getting up and rushing to his friend with a hug.
"Jesus - you act as if you haven't seen me in years!" Mira laughed, returned with a pout from Agnar.
"Yeah, well, you might as well be with the lack of time we end up spending together...I miss my best friend. You haven't even met Buddy yet."
Mira raised an eyebrow.
"Who?" Apollo held up Buddy, who barked at Mira happily.
"I can answer that question," Apollo snickered. Mira glared at Agnar.
"Agnar. If you impulsively bought a dog, I swear to God…" Agnar blew a raspberry.
"Nah, that ain't like me." Mira looked at him sceptically.
"However! I would take a random dog that decides it would like to sleep in my tent," he took the little dog out of his friend's arms and put on the baby voice again.
"Yes I would. Yes I wouuuuuld!"
Mira sighed.
"Okay. I get it. You love dogs. Now can we focus on the bigger task at hand?"
"Yawn. You're no fun."
"Maybe not, but I get work done."
Apollo took out a large, rolled up piece of paper and unrolled it, putting it on the ground for all of them to see. It was a poorly drawn map of the inside of the palace, but at least it conveyed the main idea of where exactly they needed to go.
"Okay, so here we need to-"
"Is that supposed to be the king?" Agnar interrupted, pointing at a stick figure with a crown on its head. Apollo rolled his eyes.
"Yes. Problem?"
"Why do you draw like a five year old?"
"Do I look like an artist? I don't exactly have time to take an art class. It isn't supposed to look nice, it's supposed to make sense. And given that you recognized what that image was illustrating you ultimately prove that-" Agnar groaned.
"I get it! Yeesh. Take a joke."
Apollo shot him a look before continuing on with what he was saying.
"...As I was saying, this I believe," he pointed to an entrance.
"...Will be our best chance of getting past the guards, since Agnar has a counter back power, and clearly he will be able to use it. Won't you, Agnar?" Agnar was too busy feeding Buddy dog treats.
"Agnar!"
"Gah! Yes, yes! Jeez.."
"Stay focused! Do you know how important this is?"
"Yes."
"And how much trouble we'll be in if we fail?"
"Yes."
Just then, there was a voice coming from outside the tent.
"Attention, report back to the campfire. We have some very important news!" Yelled the voice, who the three soon found out to belong to the one and only Fallon.
The three all gave looks at each other before exiting the tent and walking, Agnar continuing to hold Buddy in his arms.
"Seriously?" Mira chuckled.
"What? He's just as important as us," Agnar insisted, looking up at the sky.
"I wonder what they're calling us for this time."
"Hopefully food," Apollo sighed.
"You always hope it's for food!"
"Yeah, 'cos the animals get fed by us more than we feed ourselves! Look - you're feeding Buddy right now! Where on Earth did you even get dog treats?
Agnar gasped in offence, putting the dog treats away.
"I am not - and besides, animals deserve it!" Mira pinched both of their ears like an annoyed mother, making both of them yelp.
"Shh! We're going to miss out on what's being said. It's gonna be important."
Apollo silently flipped Agnar off, making him gasp in silence back and slap his hand onto his chest. Teivel cleared his throat.
"I have an announcement to make."
Agnar scoffed.
"No shi- ow!" Apollo punched his arm.
"Deserved," Mira muttered.
Teivel glared at the three before continuing.
"There will no longer be any need for the mission to kill the Royals.."
Everyone looked at each other, clearly confused until Teivel followed up his statement with,
"I have already done it myself."
Gasps emitted from the small crowd, Apollo clearly infuriated.
"For fucks sake! I drew out a map for nothing!"
Agnar laughed at him before Apollo playfully punched him again, leading them to squabble like children as per usual. Mira made a long sigh as people stared, clenching her fingers on the bridge of her nose. Embarrassed, she shuffled away from the two.
"I'm, uh, not with those two, heh," she chuckled nervously at the judging eyes.
Mira tripped over her own feet, being caught by some strong arms - however those strong arms did not belong to any of the tall men in the camp. It was a lady her age with long black hair.
"Woah. Are you okay?" She giggled. She pushed Mira back up onto her feet, watching as she dusted herself off.
"I, uh..," Mira cleared her throat.
"Yes! Yes I am."
The girl giggled.
"I'm Tanda. And you are?"
Mira looked down to the ground.
"Mira," she practically whispered. Tanda patted Mira on the head, already beginning to walk off.
"See you around, 'Mir."
Mira was left as a flustered mess, recomposing herself before turning around, only to see both Agnar and Apollo with smirks on their faces.
"Don't," she warned quietly.
Agnar turned around and hugged himself, starting to make smooching noises. Apollo laughed.
"Ooo! I'm Mira! And I have a big fat crush!"
Mira took off her shoe, the two men already starting to run off.
"Nonono- we didn't mean it, I swear-"
"I meant all of it-"
"Shut your mouth, Agnar-"
Teivel looked at the shenanigans going on and rolled his eyes.
"Tch. Children."
Treacher nodded in agreement, though he looked completely tired out. Teivel noticed this and smirked, holding up his chin with his finger again to look at him.
"Awee, what's the matter, young one? Tired out?"
Treacher whimpered quietly, prompting Teivel to laugh at him.
"That's pathetic. It's only been one night. Come along for the next session."
"But…"
Teivel raised an eyebrow. Treacher shook his head sadly, chewing his lip.
"Nevermind.."
"Very good."
