Chapter 1

“Mom, mom where are you? Winter is trying to stick her big nose into my territory. She’s making it cold down there on earth. It’s not supposed to be cold. I am supposed to be turning the leaves different colors. I am supposed to be getting things ready for her.” I scream out and run to look for her in the other room. Like always I manage to fall flat on my face. Damn, why was I cursed with being so uncoordinated. No wonder everyone calls me fall.

I huff as I go looking for mom again. Damn that Winter for trying to start early. I should make her madder by extending fall. I know mom has done it a couple of times. Sometimes all the way till December. Now that will put winters panties in a bunch. I made my way to the back room still looking for mom.

I finally found her in the kitchen along with all my other sisters. “Rain, I scream as I run to the youngest of us all. It’s funny she is younger in age. But out of all of us I am the tiniest in size. I hug her and her huge belly. “How is the tiny little green man doing in there?” I tease her since her husband is a leprechaun. It was a funny story. How they met and eventually fell in love.

Same thing with my sister Spring and Summer. All of them married off already after having found their other half. I frown still not happy I have yet to find mine. I kiss and hug them all. Then make my way to get some lemonade. “What’s with all the yelling?” Summer asked.

“I huffed. It’s your idiot sister Winter. She is trying to horn in on my time on earth.” I say as I raise the glass to my lips. But before I had a chance to drink. I see something strange happen to my drink. In a matter of seconds the liquid is frozen solid. I feel the anger rage in me.

“Mom!!” I scream out as she enters the room.

“What’s all the racket about Fallon?” I hand her my glass and she sees that the lemonade is frozen solid. “Winter honey, please come here.” Mom calls out to her and to my surprise she was hiding under the table. I look around and glare at my sisters. They knew she was here all along.

Spring shrugs “we like seeing you all mad. You are such a pixy looking little thing. It takes some of the cuteness out of you.” I glared again and then decided to leave. Not before ungraciously falling again. Damn I just ruined my grand exit.

I could hear winter laughing as I left. “Mom she’s not being nice. She won’t share her time on earth with me.” Winter was complaining to her. She seems to have a big problem with patience. Everything has to be for her fast. I can’t wait till she meets her match. Maybe he’ll knock her down a peg.

I decide to go get ready and just head back down to earth to see all their preparations for Halloween. It was a very strange custom. But it allows me to walk around working more freely. Everyone just thinks I’m setting things up for Halloween.

Tyler’s POV

 I woke up “so early” I groaned.

“Son, you have to get used to being awake in the mornings. There is another life out there. You will see a whole new world in the day light.” dad says and I roll my eyes and then cover them from the bright lights. He just laughed. “Hmmm, go see Jack he can hook you up with some sunglasses. They will help you get used to all the bright light.”

“Jack?” I asked not knowing who he was referring to.

“Jack Frost, that lad is a good egg. He needs to make more friends. Just be careful. He is notorious for playing tricks on people.” I said goodbye to dad and headed out to meet this notorious Jack Frost. I took out my dust and sprinkled it around me and thought of him. I was at his home within a second. But he did not live in our realm. It was beautiful here. It looked kind of like an ice fairy land.

I walked around just looking at things. Then I got to this post in the middle of the living room. There was a note attached to it. I got closer to read. Maybe the guy was out and the note tells you where to find him. It read out loud. “Lick me.” I looked around unsure, but I got close and did it anyway.

Holy shit, the next thing I know the pole ices over and my tongue sticks to the pole. I could hear laughter behind me. “Oh man, no way. This is the first time anyone actually licked that thing.” I glared at the guy that just joined me. Well I tried to, considering my tongue was frozen to the post. How the hell do I get myself into these things?

All of a sudden the pole gets warm and my tongue came off. I turn ready to punch this guy. But the smile on his face made me warm inside. “I take it you are the guy my father warned me about?”

He starts to laugh. “You don’t know me? No wonder you fell for it. Jack Frost, at your service. What can I do for you?” he asked.

“I’m Tyler the future Sandman. I am heading to earth, but I am not used to being awake during the day. I need some shades.” I say.

“Ahh, a nocturnal one. Come this way, I have a killer stash. There is not much sunlight here by me. But I love the way these things make me look cool. Get it cool since I live around ice.” I rolled my eyes, did he not know it loses it’s funny if you have to explain.

He walked me over to a wall full of sunglasses. Man he wasn’t kidding. He really does love these things. I looked around for the perfect pair. I pulled them out and put them on. Yeah this was great, this will work. “Thanks again, now I have to go and get things ready.”

“Dude, you’re too tightly strung. You need to take a page from Frankie and just Relax.” He laughed once again his humor went over my head. He tossed me a CD. “You need to give my 80’s tunes a try. Can I hand with you for a while?”

Fallon’s POV

I finally made it to earth. I looked around as I stood by the poor tree I had bared the other day. I know I was mad when I blew all the leaves off. It was very mean of me.  We should never rip leaves off. They should be allowed to fall of their own accord, as it is mean to be.  But regardless, I looked at the vast number of tress and started to do my job. I turned each and every leaf a different shade. No 2 leaves were alike in color pattern.

I am going to love my job…
