2. Bangtan

Levi and I were sitting in a parking lot. We had long since lost Rap Monster in the panic of running away from the gas station away from the danger of bullets.

We were discussing what to do, clutching to each other, sitting on the stairs to a broken down building.

My knees were shaking so badly, it was a wonder I hadn't knocked Levi over yet. Now that we had hopefully escaped the danger, the situation was settling in and my brain didn't know how to handle it.

Levi could've died!

I could've died....

What the hell had happened? Who was shooting, and why? Seoul was supposed to have less crime than the big time cities in America, so how come that gas station had been shot up in the daylight?

I was so taken by the questions that I hardly noticed the car driving up, and the driver honking the horn nearly gave me a heart attack.

Looking up, I noticed Rap Monster in the car, staring at us impatiently like he was the one that had been waiting on the steps for an hour.

Grabbing Levi's hand, I hopped in the back with her, ignoring Rap Monster's confused face. I was gonna sit with my Levi. Thinking about how I could've lost her made me feel very clingy.

Rap Monster abruptly started driving, making my head whip back onto the headrest painfully.

He was driving recklessly, weaving between cars and going way faster than anyone around us. I was too scared to say anything though, because he had saved us, and criticizing his driving wasn't exactly the best way to thank him.

He had this aura around him that seemed too commanding to challenge, so I sat back, keeping my mouth shut.

After a while the silence seemed too uncomfortable, so I fought off my intimidation and risked speaking.

"Nice car," I mumbled, holding Levi's hand like that could save me from upsetting him.

"Right? That's why I took it," he said, and I nearly spit.

"You stole this?" I asked, feeling hysteria rising in my throat.

"Calm down. Your car got destroyed so we couldn't very well take that now could we?" He said matter-of-factly, like stealing the car was the best option, the only option.

"But you, you stole this!" I repeated, dumbstruck. "We could've taken a bus!"

I felt my eyes bugging at the realization that I was in a stolen vehicle! Oh god, I was going to spend my time in Korea rotting in a jail cell-!

"With how you look? Now that would get you to the cops for sure." I looked down at my ripped clothes, blood splatter all over them. Jesus, I was bleeding?

Just noticing a slick stickiness on my neck, I reached up to find blood coating my neck. What?

Then I realized, that gunshot that passed right by me, it must have grazed my neck.

I wish I hadn't noticed, it really hurts now.

I looked over at Levi and saw blood splattered over her shirt. I reached over but I didn't see any wounds. So why was there so much blood?

He was right, but I wouldn't admit it.

"But still, stealing-" I spoke.

"Call it permanently borrowing if it makes you feel better," he said carelessly.

I sat back, trying to bite my tongue.

I was never good at keeping quiet.

"But what if we get in trouble, we didn't even do anything!" I said, holding Levi's hands in fear.

"You have no faith in me? Who saved you from becoming a living firing range target?" He said, and I saw him grip the steering wheel tightly, as if I'd upset him.

"You," I said softly, crossing my arms and reluctantly looking to his eyes in the rear-view mirror.

"So have a little faith. I took the license plate off, nobody will know. Besides, if I can get you away from the Double Dragon then a little cops are nothing to worry about," he said, and I could see his face crinkle up, like he was smirking.

I looked at his little dimple and wondered how he could be so commanding and look so professional and authoritative when his little dimple made him look like a cute little baby-faced teen.

Little? This guy looked close to 6 feet, he was not little.

I sighed and leaned back, before noticing something.

"Wait, Double Dragon? Double Dragon, as in the gang Double Dragon? As in- you're fucking shitting me right now, no...." I said, looking at Levi in fear.

"I'm not shitting you. You think I'm lying?" He asked, and I gulped.

"No its just, wow, why would they- was there someone from another gang there?" I asked, confused.

"You could say that," he said, a light tone to his voice that made it seem like he knew something that I didn't.

"Wow, but I only saw you there-" I said, furrowing my eyebrows together as I sat confused, trying to think back and look to see if I could remember anyone else.

There was a light bump and I tried to grab onto Levi but missed her, and she slammed against the window painfully.

"Wait a second, you-" I looked to see that we had pulled into a vacant lot where there was a building looking worse for wear.

"You're the other gang member aren't you," I spoke softly, realization filling me with chills.

I was in a car with a gang member.

"Levi, we have to go," I whispered, grabbing her and trying to open the door.

Faster than I expected, Rap Monster had latched onto my arm, holding me back. His grip was tight on my wrist.

"Think about it, where are you gonna go? The Double Dragon know you now, they'll come after you. Besides, the whole 'you fight fire with fire' thing, right? If you want to avoid a gang, then join another one," he said, smirking at me.

"What, but-" I looked to Levi, but she didn't say a word, just stared at me without blinking.

I saw a flash, her head smashed open, blood pouring out of her mouth, holes rittled all over her body, and I knew that could be a reality if the Double Dragon found us.

I sighed and pulled my arm from his grip, exiting the car slowly and moving around the car to where he was standing.

I moved a little closer to Rap Monster, because even if I didn't really know him, he was more familiar than any of the people who's voices I could hear coming out from the broken windows in the building.

"Well?" He asked, staring down at me. He was waiting for an answer.

If I join him, then Levi and I would be safer, I hope.

But this is a gang! It's illegal, and it's dangerous, we could get killed by anyone! What if we had to kill people? I tried not to imagine that, scared of what I might feel or think.

But if we don't, Levi could be killed. The cops could be after us right now, and who knows what other gangs we might run into. I'm sure they wouldn't be as 'friendly' as Rap Monster was....

I sighed softly, my heart hammering in my chest like an overworked machine.

This was the best choice, right?

"What else are we gonna do? I'd rather not die just quite yet," I said, trying to hold back the sarcasm.

His face pulled into a grin, and he laughed softly. He held a hand out, and I stared at it, seeing how much larger it was compared to mine.

Everything about him was big and intimidating, but I got the feel that he could be a giant teddy bear to his friends. Maybe it was his dimple, but I felt like this whole tough guy routine was only part of who he was.

Taking a deep breath, I tried to calm my chaotic heartbeat, reaching my hand up, my fingers brushing against his palm before he held my hand, his grip softer than when he held my wrist.

My hand in his, it felt soft, comfortable. Safe.

I felt safe holding the hand of a gang member, the fuck is wrong with me, get a hold of yourself Xan! These hands had probably killed people before!

I held in a gasp at the thought, but I didn't pull my hand away.

"Welcome to Bangtan," he said, his smirk making him look like a vogue model, while his dimple made him look cute at the same time.

I pulled my lips up into a half smile.

"Ready to meet the boys?" He asked, and I held my breath, trying not to let my fear show.

"Good," he said, turning away and leading me towards the building. He looked back at me smirking, sending me a wink before pulling me through the door.

This is going to change everything....
