12. Hands Up
**** enjoy a quality valentine's day card before reading ^w^ ****
It had been a week since I had come to stay with Namjoon and everyone else.
I spent my time learning korean, acting as a getaway driver, and going to parties, usually with Namjoon.
My days were so filled I hardly had time to remember what life had been like before.
Maybe if I could recall life before Bangtan, I wouldn't have been doing what I was about to do.
If someone had told me two weeks ago that I'd be willing to do this, I'd think they were crazy. And yet here I was, fully willing, excited about it, hell, it was my idea.
I was sitting with Angel and Star, going over the details of the plan one last time to polish over any last concerns and potential setbacks.
Namjoon was out, no doubt running more 'errands'. He had taken Suga with him, as they both had a competition at the Underground later tonight.
It was my plan to do this little job with Angel and Star before surprising him after his performance.
I should be worried, but maybe Star's easy confidence had rubbed off on me, because I had no doubts that it would work. I had scoped out the places a few days ago, and planned everything down to the last detail, with back up plans if anything happened.
Angel hadn't said much, but she had agreed to come along, so that was enough for me. I don't know how she felt about me taking so kindly to the gang life. But I felt like illegal suited me well. Maybe a little bit too well, but I wasn't going to complain.
Besides, Jungkook took her with him on every job he went on, even if he didn't need an extra person. They had become nearly inseparable, and even though Jungkook was shy of women, he got on really well with Angel. It made me smile and coo about how cute they were.
Star had everything ready in the car outside. All that was left was to go.
We went outside, finding J-Hope bouncing in the driver's seat jamming to a Korean hip hop song.
Finding myself recognizing a few of the words, I grinned, thinking about how far I had come as a person since Bangtan.
Namjoon had been teaching me Korean when neither of us were out on jobs, and I felt myself growing very affectionate towards him.
He acted like a tough man's man, but when it was just us two in his room, he was goofy and playful, showing off his English speaking skills and finding new ways to teach me Korean words. He was always making the strangest faces, but it made him seem even more attractive, though that didn't make sense to me, it just did.
I shook my head to clear my thoughts. I had to focus on this job to make sure everything went right, I couldn't afford to cloud my mind with Namjoon.
I jumped into the passenger side so that Angel and Star could go over the plan one more time.
J-Hope drove crazy, screaming and pounding his hands on the steering wheel in time with the beat of the blasting hip hop. He rapped along, and I found myself laughing, entranced with how unique his voice was. He had undertones of something I couldn't put a name to, but it made him sound so much better, so different.
I wondered why he wasn't in the competition with Suga and Namjoon, he really was a skilled rapper, as well as a flawless dancer.
I didn't have time to think about it though, because J-Hope had squealed into the parking lot and then we were getting out of the car, leaving J-Hope to wait for us.
He was the getaway driver now.
I had upgraded roles this time. I smiled at the thought, thinking of how impressed Namjoon would be when he found out about this.
We pulled down our masks before stepping in front of the store.
Star took my hand and pressed something cold in my hand.
I admired the cold metal in my palm before nodding to Angel.
I slammed open the door, raising my hand in the air and yelling.
"EVERYBODY HANDS UP!"
The only customers were an elderly woman and a very tired looking, lanky man. Neither of them put up any sort of a fight, easily cowering to the floor with their hands over their heads.
The boy behind the counter couldn't be older than 20, and I almost felt bad for him before I pounded on the counter, pointing the gun at him.
Star stood next to me while Angel guarded the door, making sure no one came in or out.
"You know this, yes. You give me money, I don't kill you," I spoke slowly, waving my hand impatiently. I had spoken very choppy korean, so I could only hope he understood. If not, I think the gun and the mask made it relatively obvious what we were doing.
He didn't react for a moment, and I worried that I had mispronounced the Korean, but then Star cooly pointed her gun at him, cocked and loaded.
Staring down the barrels of 2 guns, he immediately nodded and opened the cash register, hastily pulling at the bills and piling them on the counter.
"Bag!" I spoke curtly, slamming the black bag on the counter.
He whispered an apology, his hands shaking as he threw the money into the bag.
I heard Angel tapping her foot, and I knew we needed to hurry up.
"Thank you for your service," I grinned, speaking English, so I knew he wouldn't understand me.
He gave me a hesitant bow, palms face down, clutching the counter, his finger tips white with strain.
Star grabbed the bag and ran over to Angel, clearly impatient as well.
I knew it was stupid to stay, but I wanted to soak in the victory of a successful robbery.
I mean, I just robbed a fucking gas station! I had a fucking gun, and I had pointed it at real, living people. It was crazy to think about, and I should've been concerned about how giddy it made me, but I didn't care. This is what I do, this is who I am now.
I laughed, giving all three people a 90 degree bow, knowing I was being obnoxious.
I grabbed a few candy bars before running to the door, pushing Star and Angel out and running over to the car.
J-Hope hardly waited for us to close the doors before briskly driving away.
I screamed in excitement, turning around to grin at Star and Angel, who both looked surprised that we had actually done it with no problems.
"You didn't fuck up, nice job. I thought maybe you'd cry, most all rookies usually freak out," Star teased, winking at me.
I smirked, shaking my head.
"I'm not most rookies. Who planned this whole thing?" I retorted arrogantly, and Star snorted, nodding.
"Come on, let's hit the other ones quickly, we have to make it to the Underground before Namjoon and Suga perform," I said, smacking the upholstery of the car to release my tense excitement.
"What, no Namjoon-ah this time?" Star teased, smirking at me.
"Yah, you're just jealous because Suga-yah doesn't sound as good," I replied, smirking back at her.
"But Yoongi-yah has a ring to it" she responded cooly, and I nodded, admitting defeat and turning back forward.
With each gas station we walked into, I gained more and more confidence, waving the gun around more and even loading it in front of a particularly reluctant cashier. I found myself getting giddy at the sight of their fear and compliance.
The pile of money grew bigger and bigger, and my confidence rose with it. I was in a gleeful, cocky stage with each successful heist.
"I'm a straight up natural!" I bragged in the car as we came back from our last hit, smirking at a happily dismissive Star, who was rolling her eyes at me. Her grin gave her away though, and when I stared at her dimple piercings I was reminded of Namjoon.
My stomach grew more excited as we made our way to the Underground.
