1. Starts With A Bang
**** This book will include potentially triggering violence, so beware. It will not be a happy sunshine-y story. It will probably include the gritty life of living in the streets, and gang violence, illegal activities, and the stupid 'invincible' lifestyle. That being said, I hope you enjoy.
This story will be in Xan's point of view ****
"Pay attention to the road!" Levi yelled at me, leaning over and jerking the wheel. I looked over just in time to see us narrowly miss the crooked telephone pole, jumping the curb. I took the wheel in my hands and steadied the car, breathing deeply.
"There was a temple...." I mumbled, clenching the steering wheel and looking down to see that my tank was nearly empty.
"I swear, this city makes me the worst driver," I mumbled, spotting a gas station ahead.
"Yeah, blame it on the city," Levi teased, and I blindly reached over to smack her shoulder.
"Why don't you drive then, if you're so much better?" I said to her, smiling slightly.
"Because you don't let anyone drive your truck," she said, and I laughed.
"True, Caterina is my baby," I said, stroking the wheel softly. I didn't risk looking, but I knew Levi was rolling her eyes at me.
Pulling into the gas station, Levi went in to look at the food, and I parked and got out, ready to pump the gas.
There was a tall, pink - haired man walking up to me, and I tried to ignore him, wanting to get my gas and leave before anything could happen.
This part of the city looked more run-down than the glorious temple-filled city it had been only minutes ago.
I was wary of the man. I wasn't judging him, I just didn't want to risk anything with Levi gone.
"Let me do that," a voice said, and I jumped, turning to see the man standing right next to me.
"I can do it, thanks," I mumbled, and he laughed a little, pointing a finger upwards.
I looked up to notice a sign I couldn't understand. I turned back to the man shrugging. I didn't speak very much Korean. Reading it was even worse, I couldn't understand a thing.
"Rap Monster," he said to me, pointing to himself, and he brushed past me to start pumping the gas into my truck like it was the normal thing to do in this situation.
"Ah, gas clerk? You look a little.... fancy for the job," I said, giving him a one-over. A striped suit, he looked like a high end businessman, or a model for formal wear. Definitely not a gas clerk looking guy.
"You gotta make money somehow," he said to me, giving me a quick smirk.
"Just seems like you could do better," I replied, crossing my arms.
He looked at me out of the corner of his eye, not responding. I sighed and leaned against my baby, trying not to stare at him.
Maybe he didn't speak much english.
I spaced out, and next thing I know he was tapping me, about to say something.
His words were drowned out by something that sounded like a gunshot, ringing in my ears. It felt like everything slowed down, and then I felt a wind by my neck and I looked to see the window to my car shattered.
I couldn't move, I felt frozen, staring in horror at my broken window.
I vaguely heard someone yelling nonsense, and then I was on the ground and I snapped out of it, staring into the man's eyes in horror.
"What the fuck is happening?" I asked him. He didn't answer, instead he just held me down behind the gas post.
"Nice red converse," he said after a while, smiling slightly at me. I was surprised to see a dimple, making him look adorable in place of the cool, sexy look of his face before.
"My truck is getting destroyed and all you have to talk about is my shoes?" I said, punching his arm.
My thoughts were interrupted when I saw the gas station's window break, and my heart dropped.
"Levi's in there!" I yelled, slipping out of the man's arms and running for the building. I held my hands around my head, even though it wouldn't do much if a bullet was coming at me.
I didn't even think twice, jumping through the broken window and running right into Levi.
"Thank god you're okay!" We said at the same time. Smiling in relief, I hugged her tightly.
I dont know what I'd have done if they'd had gotten hurt, they were all I had.
"Ladies, not really the time," the man said, grabbing my wrist and pulling me through the store, slinking between aisles to avoid the gunshots tearing the place apart.
Grabbing Levi's hand, I shared a nervous look with her as the man pulled us through the gas station.
"We don't even know your name," I said, pulling from his grip slightly.
He pulled us behind a shelf and gave me a look.
"I told you, Rap Monster," he said, and I coughed.
"I thought it was a lost in translation thing...." I mumbled, holding Levi close for comfort.
He shook his head, turning away from us and walking to a locked door.
He pulled something out of his pants and I nearly screamed when I saw that it was a gun.
He turned towards us, and I shrunk a little, staring. Was he going to shoot us?
"What are you-" I started to speak, but he held a finger to his lips.
"Are you coming or not?" He asked, turning and shooting the doorknob before kicking the door open and stepping through.
We didn't know him, why should we trust him? He could be bringing us to a prostitution ring or a sex slave ring or something.
But then, what else could we do? We had nowhere to go.
Sharing a look with Levi, I nodded to her, before we stepped out of the door and ran after Rap Monster.
We had no choice really, he seemed to be able to keep us alive for this long, so that had to mean something.
I could only hope.
