chapter sixteen
[third person]
-
it was near mid july, and shawn had just started tour again. the crew, shawn, and anya, were all on their way to portland. anya was flying in from new york city at a later time, and she was going to meet the rest of them at the hotel.
shawn didn't know this.
the sun streamed down onto the pavements around the hotel, creating an almost perfect scene of pure summer, casting the city back into something of a movie, rather than the harsh reality of a twenty first century centre point. anya quickly tipped the taxi driver, and pulled her suitcases from the trunk, dragging them up to the lobby, where a worker takes them for her.
"good evening, miss, welcome to portland," the receptionist warmly smiles at her. anya shoots out a quick grin, taking out her paperwork.
"hey, thank you, how are you doing?" she asks politely, making a brief conversation with him.
"good thank you, are you here to check in?" he asks, looking at anya curiously. anya quickly nods, holding out her paperwork.
"yeah, i'm anya steinburg, part of the mendes party?" she asks, taking out her passport for identification. the receptionist checks over her id and paperwork, before smiling warmly, and handing her a room key.
"you're in the presidential suite, enjoy your stay," anya takes her key, as her bags are wheeled into an separate elevator. she scrunches her face up in confusion, looking at the key, and back at the reception desk, where a new family are waiting to get their room. she shrugs, walking to the nearest lift, and taking it up to the very top floor, where all the suites are, before walking around to find where she's staying.
she comes to a white door, seeing her bags placed beside it. she eagerly picks up her bags, unlocking the door, and stepping inside the spacious suite, the sweet scent of fresh jasmine and tea wafting through the air. there were two couches opposite each other, a large glass coffee table in the middle of them, followed by two sets of double doors behind each couch. she walks up to one of the doors, dragging her bags behind her, opening it up, revealing shawn laying down, his legs stretched out, and his guitar on his lap.
"woah-" shawn says quickly, his eyes going wide. "oh my god, when did you get here?" he asks, letting a small chuckle leave his lips, as he stands up, rushing over to greet anya with a giant bear hug.
"literally just now, i thought you knew," she grins, dropping her bags and hugging him back tightly. "god, i missed you."
"it was only four weeks apart," he responds, pulling his head away, but keeping his hands on her waist. "how are you doing?"
"much better," she smiles softly at him, as he guides her to the bed, letting the two of them sit side by side. "i think isolating myself away from everything really helped. i didn't use my phone for four weeks, i'm pretty sure i've forgotten how to use it."
"that's why you didn't answer my texts, i was getting worried for a bit," he chuckles nervously.
"yeah, i'm sorry i didn't tell you before, i just needed to do it and get a little bit more headspace, you know? i really had a full body detox in the past four weeks, and i think it's helped quite a bit. i'm finding myself again," anya explains, as shawn smiles widely at her, taking in her words. "but i'm here now, and ready to spend some time with you. i've missed you so much."
"i've missed you too," he grins sheepishly. "okay, so how about we head out to dinner? i was gonna get room service, but i heard there's a good italian around the corner?"
"is this your way of asking me out on a date?" anya asks him, a coy look in her eye. shawn blushes, looking down and nodding. "aw, shawn," she gushes, linking her hands with shawns. "i'd love to."
"great, okay," he says, looking up. "why don't you freshen up a little, get settled, and then we can leave in about an hour or so?"
"sounds good," she beams, letting go of shawns hands and standing up. "shawn, i'm really glad we're okay."
"me too," shawn responds. "i think we could be something great together," he tells her, making a massive smile come across her lips. she leans down, pressing a gentle kiss to his forehead, before picking her bags back up, and walking to her room of the suite.
she was beyond happy to be back.
-
"anya!"
"anya's here!"
"oh my god, they're matching!"
"they look so good together!"
shawn and anya chuckle gently to themselves, as they walk outside the hotel, being greeted warmly by a line of fans, their hands joint between them.
"i'll be a few minutes," shawn says to her gently, kissing anya's forehead briefly. anya nods, smiling at him.
"have fun," she grins, squeezing his hand, before leaning up and pressing her lips to his cheek. anya waits by the main door of the hotel, waiting for shawn to finish up taking photos with the fans who were outside.
"are you guys heading out?" a fan in the line asks shawn, as he moves down the line, taking photos.
"yeah, we're going out for dinner," shawn grins. "is the italian place around the corner good?"
"yeah, it's owned by italians so it's authentic," another fan tells him. "have a good time."
"thanks hunny," shawn grins, finishing up with the photos, and bidding a quick goodbye to the fans. shawn runs his fingers through his hair briefly, before walking back to where anya is, linking their hands together. "ready?"
"yeah," anya nods, shooting a small smile at shawn. he grins, walking left of the hotel, anya following his large strides. they approach the inviting restaurant, the warm aroma of freshly made pizza hitting them as soon as they entered, making a small smile toy over anya's lips.
"hi, table for two?" shawn politely asks, smiling at the waitress. she nods, taking out two menus, and leading anya and shawn to a secluded area of the restaurant, after recognising who they are.
the two of them sit down opposite each other, opening the menus almost immediately, getting served ice cold water.
"you look beautiful, by the way," shawn grins, reaching over the table and holding onto anya's hand, rubbing his thumb over the back of her hand. she feels her cheeks flush softly, before pushing out a shy smile.
"you're so sweet," she says, her heart completely melting for the man in front of her. "you don't look too bad yourself, might i add."
and so, anya and shawn dwelled in each other's free spirits, enjoying their date, and really getting to know each other more and more.
it's a shame plans are made behind their backs.

"christine, no, i can't do that to them," andrew argues. "they're really getting on. you cant just make me break them up. i don't think it's scripted anymore."
"tough luck! shawns got new music coming out in two weeks, andrew. and it's heartbreaking music more than anything. break them up, and the press will shine their light on shawn," christine explains, an executive at island records. "even better, break them up a day before it's released."
"they're really getting-"
"do you still want ag artists to be as successful as it is? because i can get it cut from the island budget," she blackmails.
"you can't do that! the company is under my name," andrew argues, getting more and more frustrated with what he has to do.
"i can, remember i'm above your position," she tells him. "two weeks andrew, i expect them to be broken up."
christine hangs up sharply, and andrew lets out a frustrated sigh, anger running through him.
he knew shawn was going to be heartbroken, which made it even harder to tell him.
