chapter seventeen
[third person]

shawn and anya both strolled back to the hotel, hands joint, and laughs shared between them. shawn was ecstatic, and anya was finally finding her feet again. she felt content, she felt happy, truly happy. life was going incredibly well for her, and her relationship with shawn was blossoming into something incredible.
"you still haven't seen my home yet," shawn points out. "how about after the us leg is over, and we're back in toronto, you stay with me for a while?"
"i like the sound of that," anya grins, swaying their joint hands gently. "hey, don't you have a single coming out in two weeks?"
"i do," he nods, a smile toying on his lips. "why?"
"well," she grins, looking at the front of the hotel, where an even longer line of fans are, and some press cameras. she looks up at shawn, grasping onto his t-shirt, and pulling him gently close to her. "let's make the internet explode," she whispers, making shawn smirk, and place his hands on either side of her waist.
"you really are something else," he mutters, planting his lips onto hers, pulling her gently by the waist, so she hops into his grasp. anya moves her hands up to his cheeks, cupping them in her small palms, before pulling away, her face flushed a soft pink.
"come on, let's go cause some more trouble," she says, finding his hand, and running in the opposite direction of the hotel.
"anya," shawn chuckles, running after her. "where can we go? what can we do in portland?"
"we'll find something," anya confirms, slowly down her running speed, shawn coming to a stop behind her, and the two of them walking around and exploring their settings.
they find themselves walking along the bankside, enjoying the warm evening, and enjoying each other's company.
"i'm pretty sure my family miss you," anya chuckles gently at shawn, looking down at their feet. "you really did rub off on them," she says, looking up at him, seeing a small smile over his lips.
"i love your family," shawn tells her, letting go of her hand briefly, only to hook his arm around her shoulders. "will they be free when i have my la show?"
"probably, why?" anya asks him, knowing exactly what the answer is.
"i'm gonna invite them to the show, and get them a box," he says, making anya smile widely. "would they want to come?"
"of course!" anya laughs, making shawn smile again. "hey, when's aaliyah getting here?"
"she and my parents should be with us for when we get to chicago," shawn tells her. "she's missed you too."
"we still need to get our families to meet," anya urges shawn, moving her arm around his torso. "they'd get on so well."
"i can't wait to tour the rest of the world with you," shawn tells her, stopping in their tracks. shawn gazes down at the woman he's falling for, and feels his heart swell in adoration. "i mean it, anya. these last few months have been incredible. i don't want this to end." anya looks up at him, her mouth slightly agape, nothing but admiration for shawn running over her glazed eyes.
"let's make the most of it, then," she grins softly, leaning up and pecking shawns lips. he smiles against hers, and pulls away, a red tint at his cheeks. "i'm glad everything's back on track for us."
"me too."

anya lets a sigh tumble from her lips, as she strolls down the corridor to her shared suite with shawn. she had to ask a few questions to the receptionists, so shawn went up before her, and ordered even more food from room service. anya almost reaches their room, before being pulled into another room.
"oof!" anya shouts, bashing into the wall inside the room.
"anya, hi," andrew says, letting out a sharp breath. "sorry about that, by the way."
"oh, okay?" she asks, folding her arms. "why did you pull me into your room?"
"anya," andrew says seriously. "i um, i have some bad news," he begins, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. "uh, it's about you and shawn."
"w-what?" anya stutters out, standing up straighter, and more alert. "are we not doing a good job? or-"
"no, it's nothing to do with that, you guys are blossoming into something beautiful, and i've never seen shawn happier, but-" andrew cuts himself off with an angry sigh. "i have my own company, you know that right?" anya nods, walking further into the room, and sitting down on the arm chair, listening intently to what andrew is saying. "but island look over it, manage the company, in a way," he explains, sighing. "i um, i employed you to get shawns sales up, get his name circling before tour, you know that right?"
"yeah," she trails off, slightly nervous. "a-are you firing me?"
"no, no," andrew says quickly. "um, island want you and shawn to end things, before he releases his single, which means-"
"i'll have to go," anya catches on, a frown etching it's way onto her face. "oh."
"anya, look, i tried so hard to keep you, and for them to forget about you guys breaking up, but they'll end my company, and shawns career will be in danger, and i couldn't tell shawn about this, because he wouldn't listen to the management, but-"
"don't worry, i understand," anya tells him softly. "i completely understand, i-it's-" she feels the tears burn at her eyes, and takes a shaky breath. "when do i have to tell him i'm leaving?"
"after the chicago show," andrew lets out a heavy breath, his leg shaking. "anya i'm so sorry."
"it's not your fault," she mumbles, pushing out a small smile. "at the end of the day, you've built up an insane company, and shawns built up an incredible career, and i can't get in the way of that, you know? i was hired to be his girlfriend, i don't have success."
"i tried so hard to keep you guys together. i've never seen shawn happier, ever. he's so happy, i don't know how i could've told him," andrew mumbles. "i'm sorry, anya, i really am so sorry."
"do i end things completely with shawn? why can't him and i be in secret?"
"island keep tabs on everyone, especially shawn. you'd be surprised if you knew," andrew mumbles. "i'll keep trying anya, i promise. just keep it in mind, okay?"
"thanks gerty," anya says gently, letting a tear overflow, and roll down her cheek. "thank you for hiring me in the first place, and introducing me to shawn," she sniffles, wiping her cheeks with the back of her hand.
"come here," andrew sighs, holding his arms out. anya walks into them immediately, crying softly against his shoulder, feeling the pain of losing someone run through her.
she hasn't even lost shawn yet, but it feels like he's already far away from her.
"i'll try my hardest to keep you guys together, i know both of you are on the road to a relationship, and i don't want you guys to not be happy," andrew explains, as anya sighs, her cries quietening down into soft sniffles. "it's gonna be so hard on shawn."
"do you really think he likes me?" anya asks in a small voice, looking up, and wiping away her tears.
"anya, he's falling head over heels for you," andrew tells her gently. "i've never seen him so loved up."
"oh god," she mumbles, tears pooling at her eyes once more. "how do i tell him?"
"honestly anya, i don't even know."
-
"are you okay? you seem really out of it hun," shawn says softly to anya, his fingertips tracing her shoulder gently, as he sits up with his back against the headboard, and she lies down, her back turned to shawn.
"huh? yeah i'm fine," she plays off, rolling over and looking up at shawn. "i'm okay."
"alright," shawn says quietly. "but if you want to talk, talk to me, yeah?"
"yeah," she mumbles, a lump building at her throat. "shawn-"
"you really mean a lot to me, you know that right? i know we haven't known each other for long, but i really do feel a connection with you, and i want to keep that connection going for as long as we can. i'm really excited to see what the future holds for us," he tells her truthfully.
"sounds great," she tells him softly, her voice cracking slightly at the end. shawn sends her a tired smile, leaning forward, and planting his lips onto her forehead.
"i'm gonna go shower, okay?" he mentions, standing up from the bed and stretching out his back slightly.
"mhm," anya nods, her eyes trailing after shawn, who walks to the ensuite of his hotel room in the suite, shutting the white door behind him.
anya puffs out a small sigh, rolling back over, and shutting her eyes.
it wasn't fair. it wasn't fair at all.
