"hey dude, watch it!"

the brunette girl grumbles to herself, wiping away the remnants of her coffee with her hand, not being able to find a tissue as she strolls down fifth avenue. she gazes down at her white blouse, which now had a brown splatter stain running down it; luckily stopping at the waistband of her black denim skirt, which didn't show the coffee.

anya keeps walking, the stain not stopping her from heading to her interview and meeting with andrew gertler. she was determined to get this job; she needed it. as an online college student, she desperately was in dire need to get some money, so she could afford the incredibly expensive costs of living in manhattan, without staying in a college dorm setting.

"looking good, mamacita!" a random guy yells at her, as she passes. anya rolls her eyes, walking past quickly, not realising that her blouse is now see-through, to the state where you can see the bralette she has on underneath.

"i swear to god if i had some green chutney i would gorge his eyes out-" she cuts her mumbles off, as soon as her phone buzzes, saying she has reached her destination. a small smile settles on her lips, and she quickly walks inside the high class office, being greeted by the warm receptionist.

"hello," anya says, smiling at the woman behind the white desk. "i'm here for an interview with andrew gertler?"

"are you miss steinburg?" the blonde asks her. anya nods, whilst the blonde girl smiles, handing her a guest badge, along with a complimentary pen from island records. "thirteenth floor, office 216. it'll be to your right as soon as you step out. oh, and don't forget to swipe your badge when you get into the lift."

"thank you very much," anya greets, taking the pen and badge. "have a nice day."

"you too," the blonde responds, smiling, before going back to her computer.

anya follows the directions she was told, until she ends up outside the electro glass door, that has been programmed to hide the office completely. anya brings her hand up to the glass, knocking gently on it.

"come in!" she hears a yell, before she quickly settles her composure, opening the door, revealing a large glass desk, in front of a large window overlooking the upper east side. on one side of the desk, a brown haired man sits, probably andrew, and opposite him, a tall brunette is lounging around, not looking back.

"ah, miss steinburg!" andrew walks around his desk, going to greet the young lady. "nice to finally meet you! i'm andrew," he holds out his hand for anya to shake.

"the pleasure is all mine! i'm anya," she shakes his hand firmly, before andrew smiles, and looks towards the boy.

"shawn, get up," he sighs, making the taller brunette sigh, and lazily stand up, shoving his hands into his jean pockets.

so that is the guy i'm supposed to be dating, if i get the job, anya thinks to herself, holding in her grimace.

"shawn, this is anya steinburg, anya, shawn mendes," andrew introduces the two young adults, who politely nod at each other, shawn not wanting to even talk to her. "shawn! be nice."

"sorry," shawn shrugs, walking over to anya, and holding his hand out. "i'm shawn," anya shakes his hand, slightly nervous and intimidated by his height, and extremely good looks.

"i'm anya," she responds, letting go of his hand, and looking back at andrew.

"alright, take a seat, and we'll talk about the job," he says, guiding her to the chair next to the seat shawn was sitting on. anya sits down, shawn quickly getting into the chair next to her, and andrew sitting opposite the future fake romance.

"gerty, why can't i like, be single?" shawn groans, folding his arms against his chest. "i've been perfectly fine for the past three years."

"no you haven't," andrew tells him. "maybe this will stop you from complaining about ca-"

"alright," shawn says loudly, cutting off the conversation. "continue, but don't finish what i think you're about to say. and it's not true. we're friends."

anya looks between shawn and andrew, utterly confused at what they are saying, but shrugs to herself anyway, waiting for the actual interview process to start.

"so, anya," andrew says to her. "what made you want the job?" shawn snorts at the question, making andrew immediately glare at him.

"i'm doing online college at the moment, and since i live in manhattan, i need money to survive really. living costs are extremely high here, and as i don't live in dorms, i need a higher paying job, and this seemed to do it justice," anya explains.

"oh nice, what are you studying?"

"english," anya answers, pushing out a small smile. "and a side course in latin."

"wow," andrew says, quite impressed at the girl. "how old are you, again?"

"i'm nineteen," she smiles. "twenty in august."

"well, shawns twenty, so the age is good," andrew nods. "tell me more about yourself. what's your heritage? you have the job by the way."

"wait, are you serious?" andrew nods, waiting for the girl to continue. anya chuckles, settling her nerves, and opening her mouth to speak. "well, i was born in england-"

"really?" shawn asks, raising his eyebrows. "my mum grew up in england. what part?"

"london, actually, what part is your mum from?"

"dorset," shawn responds, quite interested in the girl next to him. "i like london."

"anyway," anya continues. "i was born in london, and i lived there with my parents until i was about five? my dad got a job in california, so we had to move to los angeles, and i lived there until i had finished high school. i moves to new york when i turned 18, and i've been living here since." she explains. "my dad is second generation indian though, and my mum is indian so i'm of asian heritage."

"oh wow," andrew raises his eyebrows. "have you been to india?"

"a few times, yeah, but i hate it there," she chuckles. "i mean, the food is good, but it's so polluted in india. i always get allergies, and i basically can't breathe whenever i'm there." she earns a laugh from shawn and andrew both.

"alright, well, i suppose you're okay with travelling then?" andrew asks the girl, who nods i response. "that's great! we're leaving for europe, for tour, so you'll be joining us there for that."

"when?"

"that's the funny part," andrew smiles. "tomorrow. if that's okay with you. we'll be going to amsterdam."
-
so, the next morning, anya set out of her apartment, heading straight into an uber than was going to take her to the airport. the city rolled past her quickly, and before she knew it, she had arrived into queens, and was led out of her taxi, her two bags being dragged along with her.

"anya!" she hears from behind her. she turns around, seeing andrew walking towards her, holding a men's hoodie. "hey, put this on," anya scrunches up her face at the black givenchy hoodie, and sighs gently, knowing it's shawns.

"you want me to wear his hoodie?" she asks, placing her hands on her hips. andrew raises an eyebrow at her, and she sighs, taking it from him and slipping it over her head, the hoodie ending at just below the curve of her bum.

"hey andrew, hey, anya," shawn says, holding onto his guitar case in one hand, and his suitcase in the other, leaning over to give anya an unexpected hug. she reciprocates, hugging him back, and trying not to act confused. "should we go?" he asks her gently, as she looks over at andrew, who nods and urges her. anya nods in response, as shawn grabs a luggage trolley, placing his bags, and anya's bags onto it, before rolling it away, anya following him.

"um, what are you doing?" anya asks him. "i thought we agreed to not make contact?"

"hey guys," shawn says to a line of fans, who are lined up against the wall outside the airport. he briefly looks over at anya, before taking photos with all the fans, and talking to them for a moment. he bids them goodbye, before walking back over to anya, placing his hand on her back, and guiding her inside the airport, whilst someone else on the team takes the trolley from shawn.

"that's why," shawn says, motioning to the fans outside. "get used to it."

anya sucked in her breath, and shook her head lightly, before plastering on a smile and following shawn again, introducing herself to the rest of the crew, and one of shawns friends who was joining him on tour.

she didn't realise how much she had to get used to.
