Almost

(Ben's POV)

I sighed drowsily and plopped myself onto my couch. We had finally wrapped up filming, and I was just glad to be back in my penthouse. Erica and I had been 'dating' for nearly a month, and nothing had happened.

Right as I fell asleep, my cellphone started ringing, sadly waking me up.

"Hello?" I asked wearily, not bothering to check the caller ID.

"Ben?" A familiar voice asked.

"Oh! Erica, hi! No offense, but why are you calling?"

"I'm bored. Wanna hang out?"

I scratched my head nervously. Since when did we hang out for fun?

"Well, ok. Come over to my apartment, I'll text the address. I'm too lazy to drive somewhere. I keep the spare key in the potted plant next to my door." I told her. "Will do. See you soon!" She answered, hanging up.

I fell back onto the couch and tried not to fall asleep. This proved to be a difficult task, and I was out in minutes.

I was awoken by Erica, shaking me roughly by the shoulders. "You drool." She informed me. I felt my cheeks warm, and I knew I was blushing.

"Well, I was tired!" I said defensively, sitting up quickly.

"Are you sure you don't always drool?" She asked teasingly. "I'm sure!" I all but shouted. I had bypassed the tinge of red and was full-on scarlet. She laughed and sat down next to me.

"What's up?" She asked. I shrugged. "Drooling?" She asked, drawing out the word. I laughed and instantly felt at ease.

(Erica's POV)

Ben was close enough for me to be able to smell his aftershave, which was the intoxicating scent of sandalwood. The scent put me at ease, and I instinctively leaned into him, resting my head on his shoulder. His shoulders tensed at the sudden contact but relaxed quickly.

"You always smell of sandalwood," I told him. "And you always smell like lilacs and gunpowder." He replied. "It's hard to let my guard down around people. You're one of the few people I trust." I whispered into his shoulder.

He smiled down on me. "I'm honored to be on your list." He whispered back, his green eyes searching mine.

And then I felt it.

A spark. Just a single spark, but that spark was everything. It was like a little sparkler, but I had a feeling that one day it would be a firework.

And I'm sure he felt it too.

And at that moment, I wanted to kiss him. I wanted to forget everything, and just be spontaneous, and live in the moment, and press my lips on his.

I wanted to kiss him in a way that wasn't fake, that wasn't a stage kiss. I wanted a real kiss. I leaned in, and he leaned in too, and our lips were so close, so temptingly close, when I looked into his eyes, and I thought of Joshua, who had eyes so similar to Ben's, and I couldn't do it.

So I leaned backward and fell back onto the couch, regretting leaning in and getting his hopes up. I sat up, my head dizzy from the almost-kiss, cleared my throat, murmured "I should go now." And left the penthouse.

I can't believe I just did that. To tell the truth, Josh had been the only guy besides my high school boyfriend to ever kiss me for real, and not as a part of a movie or show. So kissing was something I took very seriously. I bet Ben has kissed tons of girls. I thought bitterly.

(Ben's POV)

I clutched a pillow to my chest, feeling rather dejected. I had allowed myself to get my hopes up, allowed myself to think that she actually felt something for me.

And she hadn't.

She had made that clear when she leaned backward and left.

Somehow, I have this reputation of being a Hollywood player, but despite the rumors, I have only had one girlfriend before. And she wasn't even famous. In college, I had dated one of the cheerleaders for a year, until she dumped me for a football player. I guess baseball wasn't flashy enough for her.

I guess the reason I was known as a playboy was that the one time I forced myself to go to one of Mike's football parties, I got drunk and may or may not have made out with Kendall Jenner.

Guess who got featured on Keeping Up with the Kardashians that week? I'll give you a hint. He has two thumbs and is sitting right here. Yep. Me.

I didn't even want to go to that party. Mike made me go to 'Show team support' or whatever.

Never. Again.

Do you know how many calls Kendall left in my voicemail box?

I was about to fall asleep when my phone rang. I picked it up eagerly, thinking it was Erica. Then I saw the caller ID, and my shoulders slumped. It was only my new agent. I picked up, and asked, "What's up?"

"Tomorrow is your's and Erica's first month anniversary." He informed me. "You need to get her a nice gift,  and I and her agent have already made some plans..." He continued, and

Oh no. What plans? And what was one supposed to get your fake girlfriend who you almost just kissed for your one month anniversary?
