There was a knock at the door, and Eddie got up from the bed to answer it. Behind the door was a woman, old enough to be Eddie's-

"Ma!" He hugged her.

"¡Mi hijo, te has vuelto tan guapo!/Son, you've gotten so handsome!" She looked over Eddie's shoulder to see Narrator standing behind him. "This must be the boyfriend I've heard so much about." She smiled and released Eddie.

"Hi." Grant waved awkwardly.

"Él es muy guapo./He's very handsome." She winked at Eddie.

"Mom!"

"I'm saying you picked well, Honey." She stepped closer to Narrator. "Hola, soy Marlene Saucedo."

"Hola, soy Grant. It's nice to meet you, Mrs. Saucedo."

"Please, dear. Call me Mom." She shakes his hand. "It's wonderful to finally meet you, Grant. When I heard Eddie was dating a guy, I admit I was skeptical. But, now that I've met you, I believe Eddie has found a keeper."

Grant smiled at that, his cheeks turned a light shade of pink at the compliment. "Well, thank you."

Mrs. Saucedo looked back to her son. "Dinner's ready. Are you two ready?"

"Yeah, just have to change, Ma."

"I mean are you ready?"

Eddie raised an eyebrow at the question before looking back at Grant. He realized what she was asking. "Yes, I'm ready. I've got this, Mom- we've got this."
