|06| Alcohol

"You didn't need to, hick, help me."

I shrugged. So much for my airhead, nice girl act. "No one deserves to be treated like that. Tala, why did you say you like it?"

She shrugged, lying back on her king sized bed. Tala had led me towards her room after I dragged her away from that guy. It was thankfully unoccupied, and I locked the door so it no one would try to occupy it. That's how she ended up staring at her ceiling like it was made of gold and I ended up standing above her, observing the drunk girl. Well, not to say I was exactly sober.

Her violet hair was sprawled underneath her, her fingers gripping at her sheets. "I like attention. Boys give me what I want for a price." At this, she giggled, rolling onto her side so that she was no longer facing me. "But it feels good, so whatever."

I gaped at this girl I had just met. I didn't understand how someone could hold this mindset. "You can't be serious." My words were drawn out, almost as though speaking took a little too much effort.

"I ammmmmm, Adi!" She drawled slowly, almost if she was trying to get her point across to a child. Only, she was acting like a child. "Now, more to drink!"

"I think you've had too many," I laughed, shaking my head. "And my name is Ada, silly."

She scooted over and patted the spot beside her. "Come here, I don't bite."

I sighed, complying and sitting on the edge of her bed. This girl wouldn't remember me in the morning, I reasoned. Nor would she remember this, probably.Would I even remember this?

"Ima call you Adi!" She smiled giddily, clapping her hands together like she was, indeed, a child. "Why did you move here, Adi?"

My stomach churned at the thought. I didn't care if she would recall my answer or not. That was something that no one in that town could ever hear. "Well, I came to live with my dad for a change."

"Whyyyyyyyyyyy?" She queried.

"My mom, err, died," I made up, guilt rising within me. Well, then again, she was dead to me, anyways. Just like I was nothing more than a pest she had gotten rid of to her. In my drunken mind, that justified my lie.

Tala sighed. "That must be hard. But don't worry, because you can be my friend."

She wouldn't even remember me the next day. Besides, I wasn't looking to befriend drunken girls who thought harassment was okay. She seemed nice, but when she woke up, the one thing she might have remembered would be that I separated her from her nightly hookup.

"Yeah," I halfheartedly responded. "Totally."

Suddenly, a soft noise echoed throughout the large room. Glancing over at the drunken girl, I realized she was sound asleep, softly snoring. She looked so peaceful in her sleep, so happy. Yet, I had a feeling she wasn't like that in real life.

I couldn't stay with her the whole night. Plus, it would be weird if she woke up next to me, a complete stranger. She'd probably question her sexual orientation as well. So, I dragged her until her head rested against the pillow, which was fairly easy since she was very light, and pulled her covers over her sleeping frame.

"Good night, Tala," I whispered. "I hope you realize that you could do so much better than one night stands."

With that, I turned and slightly stumbled out of her room, making sure the door was still locked behind me. The last thing Tala needed was some drunken teen stumbling into her room in the middle of the night.

I happened to bump into an irritated Chris.

"I was trying to be nice to you, but you ditched me."

I felt my anxiety levels rise from the sharp tone of his voice. "Sorry, I happened to stumble across your sister, Tala. She needed some help getting to her room. I promise I didn't mean to ditch you!"

He shrugged. "Whatever. I bet she was running around with some sleaze bag again. She's not the kind of person a girl like you should be friends with."

I felt rage bubbling within me for Tala. What kind of brother was he? Instead of sticking up for his sister, he was degrading her in front of someone he barely even knew. Yet, I kept my cool. He could've been right. It was all the alcohol talking. I needed to fit in, not stand out, I reminded myself.

"Oh," I forced myself to laugh, twirling a piece of my hair around my finger. "Thanks for the heads up. I'm new so I really don't know who's the right crowd for me to hang with, you know?"

He nodded, a smirk gracing his lips. "Don't worry, just stick with me and everything will be fine."

I resisted to urge to throw his arm off my shoulders as soon as he slung it around them. He to hen lead me back to the main party, which was in full swing by this point. By that, I mean people were acting stupid and playing games like truth or dare.

Vienna was seated in the truth or dare circle with her twin seated across from her. She seemed to be enjoying herself, a cup clutched in her grasp, which I noticed everyone else had but Carson. Weird.

Lydia was sitting on a far couch with a group of girls I presumed to be her friends. She held a cup, yet she didn't look as tipsy as the rest of her friends. Honestly, the girl looked like she would rather be talking to a new group of friends.

"Wanna play truth or dare? It's the dirty version," Chris winked.

I felt a shiver run down my spine, yet I nodded anyways. We both squeezed ourselves into the circle, sitting side-by-side. As soon as my butt landed on the plush carpet, which was surely stained by then, a thin red head asked Chris, "truth or dare?"

And, probably trying to act all badass, he picked dare.

"I dare you to..." the girl trailed off, her eyebrows crunched as she tried to think of an adequate dare. "Um..."

"Chug this bottle of beer!" Some random boy shouted, running into the room with an unopened bottle in his grasp.

Chris nodded, took the bottle, flipped off the cap, and chugged. He must've been a pro because he finished in about thirty seconds, tossing the bottle across the room and swiping his hand across his lips.

Most of the people in the circle began cheering for him, me included. I'd never seen someone with such talent before.

As Chris opened his mouth, his gaze pointed in my direction, I felt my heart begin to pound against my to cage.

"Alright, Ada," Chris smirked, thrusting a bottle my way. "Your turn. That is, if you're brave enough to choose dare."

I snatched the bottle from his grasp and greedily slurped up the alcohol. I didn't remember much after that, only that I ended up in my own bed the next morning.
