11| Piggyback Ride, A K-Drama Cliché
"I'm sorry Taehyung ah~."
I mumble softly in his chest as I grip tightly onto his blazer.
"Aish, Soo Yeong ah~." Taehyung whines softly as he gently pats my head. "You can't keep apologising to me because of that trash bag. Besides, we made a deal and I intend to stick by it."
I look up at him, with teary eyes and a soft pout, "But still... I feel bad for putting you through all of this."
"Stop overthinking... you're gonna get sick." He mumbles the last bit with a pout but because of those words my features lighten up a bit. "And let's get going before he decides to come back or something."
"Ah," I mouth in surprise and quickly detach from Taehyung.
He's right.
What if Minho does decide to come back. Furthermore, those words that Minho spoke before leaving really sent shivers through my spine. It was so wicked like.
Taehyung then grips his hand in mine and he escorts me towards the exit at the end of the hallway. Once there, he pushes open the door and we step outside.
But, my face fills with shock.
Just as Yoongi had predicted- it's raining.
And I don't have an umbrella.
I let my hand slip from Taehyung's and I continue to stare at the droplets of water that's pelting dangerously hard against the concrete down below.
"If we walk in this rain, we'll definitely catch a cold."
After that thought, a familiar sound- that of an umbrella suddenly springing open catches my ears and I turn to face my side only to see Taehyung smiling down at me.
"Let's go, I'll walk you to the bus stop." He offers, and casually throws the umbrella above him.
I watch as he steps out into the pelting rain and in an instant the top of his umbrella is harshly struck with multiple droplets of water, soon to harshly meet the ground down below.
"Aren't you coming?" His voice is soft as a sweet melody, and he stares at me with a confused look.
"A-Ani, it's fine. I'll probably be a while." I give him a sheepish smile, and fiddle with my fingers. "Just go on without me, I don't want to hold you back."
His features warp into a look of suspicion, "You don't have an umbrella, do you?"
"Ah! Sure I do." I lie. I really don't want to bother him more than I already have. "I'm just admiring the rain. I'll get going in a-"
My words are suddenly cut short when I notice Taehyung walking back towards me. He closes his umbrella and without a word, he stands beside me. The look on his face is so peaceful unlike mine.
"What are you doing?" I voice, surprisedly.
"Admiring the rain."
My eyebrows furrow in guilt and I stare down at my shoes.
A short silence then fills the space between us.
But that silence is just so thick that I bite on my lower lip, and I speak up, nervously.
"Tae..."
"Why do you like nature so much?"
He suddenly asks and I look up at him in surprise only to see him peacefully staring at the raindrops with a soft smile.
"Even the first time when you had met Jimin. He said you was climbing up a tree to help a little kitty."
I sweat drop at the memory.
"Well..." I look down, bringing my hands up to my chest. "My parents always liked the outdoors so that's why."
"Your parents?"
I feel his stares on me.
I hum with a nod, and all of the good memories of my parents suddenly resurfaces. "They always went on hiking trails and such but when I was old enough to take care of myself, they started going abroad for long periods of time."
"You said you have no siblings so does that mean you live alone?" His voice is laced with curiosity.
"Deh, but my parents do call every now and then but I guess living alone for that long really made me an easy target for Minho." I admit, looking up at him with an embarrassed smile but a look of sympathy crosses his features. "But what about you?" I decide to change the topic because I'm sure he's heard enough of Minho and I.
"What do you want know about me..." He looks at me expectantly.
"What's your dream?"
I ask the most random thing because that's the first thing that popped within my inner conscious.
"My dream?" His gaze diverts back towards the falling rain. "My dream is to make my grandparents proud..."
I smile at his reply. Those words of his sound so warm and so pure.
"But I don't really think I am..." His voice softens, and his features becomes neutral. "Especially after leaving the babysitter club without even telling them."
The latter of his words takes me by surprise but like I always do, I don't dig for an answer rather I comfort him.
"I'm sure they're proud of you whether you're apart of a club or not. You'll always be precious to them."
"You wouldn't understand Soo Yeong ah~. They wanted me to join that club for a reason but all I've been doing is trying to get out of it." He explains with a pained expression and my heart breaks seeing him like this.
"Tae, don't beat yourself up about it. Things happen the way they do for a reason." I advise, placing a hand over his arm but he only pouts and opens up the umbrella.
"I don't think the rain's going to let up. We should get going." He simply says.
He takes a step forward but before he could completely step out into the rain he suddenly pulls me under the umbrella with him, and I gasp when I come into contact with his side.
I stay frozen for a while, trying to absorb what just happened- he just pulled me towards him and now we're sharing a single umbrella.
That is such a cliché move but I know he's being thoughtful because my pabo self didn't carry an umbrella, like I suppose to.
"Try not to slip because if you do I'll let you fall." He chuckles softly, which breaks me out of my momentary daze.
"Yah. That's so mean." I pinch his side, and he wiggles a little from my touch.
After we exit the school gates, we follow a straight path down the pavement, making our way towards the bus stop but unfortunately for us the rain starts pelting at a heavier rate and there's already a few stagnant puddles that's starting to form.
"Do you want to cross the street or jump the puddle?" Taehyung asks, as he looks down at me and my eyes is fixed on the huge puddle right before us.
I bite my lip, pensively, "If we go near the street we run the risk of getting splashed by passing cars..." I look up at him.
"But that's a big puddle for you to jump over." Taehyung raises an eyebrow at me and I only pout at him.
"Why'd you have to be so tall...." I whine, and tug at his blazer sleeve. "And I know you're laughing at me inside your head but I'll try jumping the puddle."
He chuckles softly, "Are you sure because there's still one more option."
I look up at him with curious eyes, "And what's that?"
"I'll carry you." He nonchalantly says, and sends me a pursed lip smile.
"Uh?" I breathe, and my mind goes blank.
"I can carry you over the puddle you egg." He repeats, and tugs at my bangs.
I shake my head, knocking me out of my state of blankness, "Ani. I'll do it mys-"
"Yah, I'm your boyfriend." He continues to tug at my bangs and I blush at his words. "Let me do this, I won't drop you."
"Ani," I furiously wave my hands in front of him, and a few times it softly brushes over his blazer because of how closer we are. "People will stare and I may look petite but I'm heavyweig-"
I suddenly feel his hand slide down beside my waist and I gasp, "Yah! Taehyung ah~ what are yo-"
"Don't be so stubborn." He interjects, in a whining tone and I only blush, trying to step backwards but he makes sure to hold me in place.
"Taehyung ah~... I'll be flustered, please let go." I whine, and try getting his hand off me but unfortunately after a few minutes of protesting, he proves to be much more stubborn than I am.
"Fine, you nut." I breathe with a frown, and accept defeat.
Despite my sad state Taehyung smiles brightly and he quickly hands me the umbrella, and obviously I take it but soon after my eyes warp in surprise when he suddenly removes his blazer then he straps his backpack over his chest.
"What are yo-"
Then in an instant, he throws the blazer around my waist, and I blush even deeper as I watch his perfect slender hands tie the sleeves together, then he tightens it so sits snuggly around my waist.
"We're all set." He states with a smile, but I feel my insides tingle like never before. Afterwards, he turns around and motions for me to climb onto his back.
"Seriously..." I sweat drop but latch onto him nonetheless but when he jerks me upwards I feel the heat raise to my cheeks because that jerk causes my chest to press against his back, which is only covered by his school shirt.
I swear if I was standing under the open sky without an umbrella my cheeks would evaporate whatever raindrops that decides to land on them.
This is peak level flusteredness and I'm about to die from it.
"You good to go Soo Yeong ah~?" His voice is as soft as Jimin's cheeks.
"D-Deh..." I barely manage to choke out as I nod over his shoulder, whilst holding the umbrella securely above us.
Taehyung straightens up and he prepares himself to cross over the puddle.
With legs as long as Taehyung's, this puddle is nothing for him. He can simply leap over it like my consistent rejections leaping over Minho's brain.
Despite my faith in Taehyung, my arms tighten around him and now I'm so close to him that our hair tangles into one, moreover, my nose brushes against his ear and I can hear his soft breaths.
Taehyung cautiously takes a leap forward, his right leg stretches to the edge of the puddle, and obviously a few passer-by's decides to bore holes through us- instantly making me nestle my face in his nape and a few strands of my hair hangs loosely over his shoulder.
For the rest of the duration of him crossing over the puddle I keep my head nestled and out of the publics view, but I'm so caught up in that, that I don't even notice him come to a standstill and now he's standing up right.
"See," His voice makes me look over his shoulder. "That wasn't so bad, now was it?" He smiles his boxy smile as he tries looking over at me.
"Ah deh," I sheepishly admit, and he takes the umbrella from my grasp so I can get down from his back.
He crouches down a little and I slowly slide off his back but, that blush makes it's appearance over my cheeks once again so without thinking I hastily detach from him, and I try stepping away from him but unfortunately, I end up tripping over my own feet.
I gasp, trying to grip onto a surprised Taehyung but it's a dismal attempt and my world slowly slants and I fall further away from Taehyung.
I shut my eyes as my body ready's itself to hit the icy cold and wet pavement down below but alas, I never do because suddenly, I feel a hand sweep around my waist, preventing me from ever meeting the pavement.
A few seconds pass by and my eyes finally open when I feel something wet fall over my cheek.
My hazel eyes connects with Taehyung's but my features instantly warp into surprise when I notice that Taehyung's hair is completely soaked, and the umbrella is now tipped over towards me instead of over the both of us.
A few more droplets fall over my face but I pay no heed to it as I quickly usher my free hand to straighten out the umbrella so that Taehyung doesn't get struck by anymore raindrops.
Once I manage to get him under the umbrella, my hands find their way towards his shirt so I can balance myself since we're in a very awkward angle but for the first time I notice his eyes scanning every inch of my features, making the blush rise to my cheeks, once more.
"Tae..." I bite my lip and I try resetting my feet over the pavement. "T-Thank you."
My words seem to break him out of his sudden daze and he instantly stands upright, with me pressed against him but thankfully his backpack, that's securely over his chest separates us.
"Are you hurt?" He asks, and the tips of his ears seem to be turning a shade of red.
"Ani, but you got drenched." I detach myself from him, and quickly go on to rummage through my backpack. "Here."
I push a hand sized towel towards him, "I know it's not much but you're going to catch a cold if you don't dry your hair."
He only stares at me so without thinking, I quickly stand on my tippy toes and I throw the hand towel over his head- furiously trying to dry it off the best I can.
"Soo Yeong ah~..." He mumbles but I ignore him, and I remove my hand from his head but I don't take the hand towel with me.
Then, I quickly remove his blazer from around my waist and I throw it over his shoulders so he doesn't get too cold.
"I'm sorry I'm so clumsy but come on..." I say and tug on his arm. "Let's just get you home so you can have a hot bath-"
My words are cut off when I suddenly feel a tug on my waist then I'm suddenly cradled into Taehyung's side.
"But you're all the warmth I need."
A/n: The question that Soo Yeong asked Taehyung, the one about his dream. I honestly had planned it before I found out about Taehyung's recent VLive. In which he said his dream is to be like his father. I mayhaps sobbed.
