Chapter Three

That Wednesday I couldn't wake up. My alarm was ringing so loudly to make me open my eyes, but I was too sleepy even to press the button to turn it off.

At last I heard the silence and fell asleep again. My mother was out. That's why I had a chance to stay at home that day. The idea was really amazing until Eva called me. She called me at 7 am, and I was anxious.

"Do you know what time it is?", I grumbled. My voice seemed much ruder than it should, but I had no desire to apologize for my terrible voice and mood.

"Sure, but why don't you call me? I have been waiting for your call for half an hour! Don't you remember what day it is?", Eva yelled, trying to express sarcasm in her manner of speaking.

   "No. Should I?"

"You're weird, girl", she added. "How are you?"

   "Never been better."

"I hate you lying. Get up right now and bring your sleepy head to college! Do you get it? I won't let you stay at home today! Do you hear me?"

   "I do, Eva."

"I give you ten minutes to get ready."

Surprisingly, my phone died in a second. It was so that I thought she wouldn't do anything to me if I didn't go to college, but later I understood that I had already woken up, so I had to get up.

As soon as I brushed my teeth, washed my hands and face, I was ready to choose what to wear that day. I glanced at the dress in the corner of my wardrobe. I hadn't put on that dress since I moved to our house with my mom. How could I forget about it?

I wanted to look the most elegant student at our college. Looking at the reflection in the mirror, I was satisfied with what I saw.

Unfortunately, those ten minutes were over. The whole two hours were over. It was strange that I didn't notice how quickly the time passed, but my recharged phone showed me I had no missed calls from Eva. How was it possible? Maybe she got disappointed and didn't wait for me anymore.

No matter what, I went to college, making up my own excuses I would tell her. My head was empty, that's why I decided to make up something on the spot when I met her.

In the college I wanted to find Eva, but she was somewhere I couldn't find her. After checking our classrooms, I went to the canteen, realizing she couldn't be anywhere else. The canteen looked full. I noticed the crowd in the left corner, discussing something. The guys, who were standing there, were looking at the same point in the middle of their circle. I decided to learn what they were looking at. Of course, Eva was there too. Having seen her, I touched her shoulder to make her turn to me to ask what was going on.

"Sophie", she whispered without any excitement to see me. "You're here."

"I am! What's there?" I asked to learn the news as fast as I could.

"I told you about the newbie, but then I realized you hadn't heard me, had you?"

"I had. The newbie? Oh, yes! What's his name?"

   "Eric", She answered.

"Okay", I had to show my fake interest in his personality to make Eva think it was really important for me to find out who that guy was. Frankly speaking, it wasn't. Maybe, that's why I don't deserve a friend like Eva.

   "What are you, guys, discussing?"

"Never mind", the only person who answered my question was Eva, but she went away in a second. I thought she had noticed that fake interest on my face, and got sick of that pretence.

She didn't even tell me anything about my dress. The day started badly, but how to fix it? I still didn't know. As usual.
