Chapter Nineteen

We all were nervous very much, checking if everything was fine. I had been applying my makeup for long before I put a new dress on.

It was a little cocktail black dress with gathers at the waist. I looked slim in that outfit especially with high heeled shoes on my feet. I couldn't wait the concert to start.

When I saw Eva in the crowd of guests and other students, I came up to her. Her face didn't show she was happy and excited, that's why I was about to question her if everything was okay.

"Hey, Eva!" I called her name. "How are you?"

She looked exhausted and upset. Stuttering from time to time, she answered.

   "I'm... I'm fine. Don't worry, Sophie. I'm quite okay."

"Then it's good," I said and smiled. Having looked at her dress, I realized that she was wearing not that one she'd been saving for. "Haven't you bought that dress you've been dreaming of? You thought it would be really appropriate for the event. Couldn't you save enough money? I guess you said you could."

"I did, Sophie," she told me in a low voice. "But I used it for something much more essential. Don't you think that buying a new dress is just the waste of money? There are much more important things than that. Now I do consider I did everything right."

Listening to her, I couldn't find out what she meant. Months ago we went together to a lot of boutiques to choose something really beautiful, but the only thing she wanted was that dress, but at that moment Eva was telling me something senseless. I had a suspicion that she might be nuts.

We heard applause and stopped talking. I would probably ask her something else if I had more time.

As soon as the concert started, the headmaster appeared on the stage. His speech was full of humor and respect to the whole audience. It was an amazing opportunity for us to be inspired and to show our talents to the spectators. Then Eric sang one of his beautiful songs to us and it was amazing.

Daniel stood behind me, and I felt his presence. Nothing would ever make me turn to him and look into his eyes. I went away to congratulate Eric on his awesome performance. Anything in order not to talk to Daniel. He was the next one to sing with his band. I wanted to prove he was not the most talented person everyone should be proud of.
