| Haldi - Wedding Day |
After a cheerful beginning to pre wedding celebrations, haldi and the many more rasams that would follow a wedding, were to take place today.
Haldi was to be another low key event with just family and few friends. Both mothers and siblings, reached Vastu right in the morning for the rituals. Dressed in pastel, mostly in shades of yellow, they looked radiant. After their morning shower and a little puja, the couple were made to sit in their living room surrounded by their dearest ones.
Ayan came along with his usual gang - Shetty sisters, Adi, Arjun Rohit - his wife, Chopra brothers, Abhi (dharma) and Kunal Rawal.
"Who will take the initiative to shred his reputation i.e his clothes ?" Fubu grinned at the small crowd that had bee lined to see the haldi madness.
"Ruk ja bete, teri shaadi abhi line mein hai. Tab dekh loonga." Ranbir warned playfully at his friend.
"Y'all do it together," Kanchi said amid much confusion. After applying tilak, both clothed in simpler clothes, sat for their yellow-ing ceremony. Mothers from both sides began the rasam as they first applied turmeric to their children. Next came Mahesh Bhatt who played father to both, hugged Ranbir in a heart warming manner. Then the sisters, followed by Bharat, Sam and the elder aunt's/uncle's/cousins.
"Koi nahi bebo aaram se laga. Ache se marinate karke rakh do. Hum thodi der mein air fry kar denge." Adi joked to everyone's delight. Fresh, peppy songs added to the morning chaos. "One second, why are you being so delicate with her and not me ? I'm practically abused here." Alia giggled at her man's cute complaint. She was indeed treated like a doll.
As soon as Karan came forward for his chance, he frowned. "Can we have an extra pair of groom ? This one's fully caked with haldi." Ranbir threw a bit of paste dangling from his shirt, at him. Soon it began a massive haldi holi as everyone started playing along. Alia laughed as Sam ran after her friends with a container of haldi.
"Oh God such a mess! Thank you to the one who suggested covering my precious walls! The stain would have taken me a full renovation." She was grateful for the idea.
While Alia happily cheered at the haldi competition, a pair of arms circled around her waist, rotating her in the air. "Aaaaah," she screamed. "Ranbir no! I'm already drenched in this. We need to shower as well jaldi jaldi." He was in no mood. Scooping out a large handful of glistening haldi, he eyed her playfully. "I love you future wifey in few hours," and he painted her entire face with haldi, pinching her cheeks. "Here's my masterpiece," he declared to their mothers.
Neetu ji handed Alia another container filled with the paste and said, "Mere masterpiece ko bhi laga de." She laughed with her mum in law and did the same to a laughing Ranbir. But he was in trouble. A loud shriek resonated in the hall. The boys had did like they promised. They tore his white kurta and made him shirtless within few seconds.
"Ab hui ha haldi ki rasam, alexa play Kabira!" The room burst with laughter as the boys attacked him with more of the paste, with the infamous song from Ranbir's film playing in the background, adding just the right amount of feel.
The ceremony ended in a refreshingly fun manner. Everyone rushed home or stayed at their condo to shower and change for the wedding happening in the afternoon. There wasn't much time. The couple were first sent to take shower as they needed more time to get rid of the stains. Ranbir caught hold of Alia in her room and closed the door. "Hey, what your doing ?" she asked. He just smiled and pulled her into his messy arms.
"Ranbir we need to shower in less than an hour okay ? We're getting married. God I can't breathe!" He chuckled at her nerves. Rubbing her back, he took hold of her hand and began searching for his name. "Where's my name ? Kal time hi nahi mila yeh sab karne ka." She smirked and denied, "Nahi likhwaya toh kahan se dhoondhoge."
"Kya matlab ?"
"Wahi jo maine kahan." She grinned.
"Hey not fair. I wrote yours, see!" He flashed his palm with her name inside a heart.
"Your name is in here, I don't need it on my palm." She pointed at her heart.
"But still ...." when she saw he had actually fell for her joke, she giggled and pinched his cheeks.
"Buddhu! Why won't I write your name ? Our mothers would kill me even if I tried. Here you go."
In her cute and simple mandala design, 'R.K 8 heart' was intelligently blended. He gazed at it for a moment and smiled. "8 is our thing na. Dekhna log kaise copy karenge hamari shaadi ke baad." Alia flashed her tongue cheekily, "Dekhti hoon kaun karta hai."
"I can't wait to see you as a bride." She blushed.
"Me tooo. I want you to be the most dashing prince in the world. Saari life flex karoongi. Dekhna kaise tumhari xyz ke hosh udte hain." He laughed at this.
"That will be you in your Queen attire. Can't we do it right now ? Why wait till afternoon ?" he pouted impatiently. "Now go and shower. Kisi ne dekh liya toh bohot daant padegi. Chalo 'cmon." She pushed him out of her room and rushed inside to shower with a smile.
Wedding had just 40 odd guests comprising of close family and friends. The newly bought condo was decked and readied a night before, to play the perfect host for the wedding of the year. Alia wanted am elegant and almost white-ish wedding theme which also went perfectly along her Gujarati roots. Branches of yellow fairly lights illuminated the ceiling. The entire apartment looked straight out of some magical christmas movie. Fake and real plants studded the place. The hall was gigantic enough to manage 50 around people at a time.
For the mandap, the couple knew a perfect spot. Their balcony!
The balcony where they spent the last five years of their beautiful relationship in. The place that nurtured many of their precious memories. Their silly fights, wine nights, chinese delights and moments filled with laughter, love and light. What place better than their love nest to start the next big adventure ?
"Wow! What in the world did they do here. Crazy man." Armaan who had recently broke his leg, had come hopping on with his stick to check at the preparations. He and everyone else who had joined in to take a look, were mesmerized. "Ab lag rahi hai ki mere Ranbir ki shaadi hai," Rima bua proclaimed with sparkle in her eyes. "Yeh toh hamari shaadi se bhi better hai. This is how you nail an intimate affair. Grand and so so private." Anissa couldn't take her eyes off.
"So proud of my brother. Saif, he's definitely on our path." Bebo dazzled in her baby pink sari next to her cousins. "He's my favourite after all," joked Saif.
"Guys, come downstairs. You have to see this!" Zach, another cousin dropped in to announce.

NOTE : We still haven't got haldi function pics or did it even happen lol ? It must have as we did got the mothers and sisters wearing haldi outfits on the morning of 14th.
Idk why she's still trying to go with the grid game and not giving us a final chill by posting the haldi pics. Therefore I kept the function simple and less imaginative as I couldn't think much. The wedding part will not be done in a single chap, but will come in diff chaps.
There wasn't much Ik, but you will get longer one's in the days ahead.
Thank you for all the love and light,
Jemi :)
