I'm Not Scared (Rogue x Reader) - Part 3
You, Sting, and Lector had to travel for an entire day by train to get to the city that requested help. Rogue clearly took the farthest away job that he could. You spent almost a the whole train ride trying to console a sick Sting. Usually you wouldn't have, Lector would, but you were grateful he was helping you with your Rogue issue, and wanted to do everything you could to show your appreciation. Nothing you did helped him much, so when you got off the train you helped him to a good area to rest up a bit and let his stomach fully settle.
Once he was feeling much better, he was starving. You took the boys to lunch knowing Sting threw up just about everything he had in his body prior to the trip.
Finally you three were on your way to meet with the mayor of the town that asked for help. He was surprised to see you all since Rogue had come by almost a full day before. Sting told him he was the guild master and after more thought, he felt this job would be handled best with 2 dragon slayers, as a precaution. Even though that wasn't true, the mayor bought it and was extremely pleased with the service he was receiving from Sabertooth. He gave you all a run down of the same details he had discussed with your boyfriend, and pointed you into the right direction of your destination. The job was to protect the town against a group of eggs that mysteriously appeared. They weren't hatched yet, but many of the townspeople were afraid that they were dragon eggs. Now you understood why Sting thought it was a better suited mission for Rogue than you.
You and Sting made your way through the town and into a surrounding forest. After about 15 minutes in the forest, Sting stopped abruptly, with his nose twitching. Dragon senses.
"I smell him." He says, leading the way, walking at a much faster pace. Before you know it, you see a green tent with a camp set up. You recognized all the gear as Rogue's. Not far from the campsite, you noticed the eggs. They were HUGE. Much bigger than any egg you had ever seen. No wonder why the townspeople were frightened.
Sting looks at you, smiling. "Have a plan?" He ask.
"I think we do best winging it, wouldn't you agree?" You reply with a smirk, and head over to the camp. Rogue is napping inside the tent. Frosch is sleeping on his own pillow, knocked out like a baby. You quietly enter the tent, motioning for Sting to follow. You lay down next to Rogue, facing him. Sting does the same, behind Rogue. Lector flies to a corner of the tent as far away from you three as he can. Rogue looks so peaceful asleep. You reach up and begin to run your fingers through his hair. He starts smiling and nuzzles into your hand. After a moment of this, his eyes snap open, startled and grabbing your wrist as he sits up slightly. You notice Sting behind Rogue, covering his mouth from laughing, so he is not caught yet.
"Oh, it's you." He says calming down slightly, before raising his voice. "What are you doing here?!" He hisses.
"I wanted to see you. You were rude and didn't tell me goodbye so naturally I had to come find you." You say, reaching up for his hair again, but he swats it down, causing you to fake pout.
"I told you to stay away from me. I'm not your boyfriend. I don't need to tell you bye. I already did that.. for good." Rogue says bitterly.
What he said hurt a little, but you were here to fight it, so you tried your best not to let it show. "I know. I came to tell you that I don't accept that. If you want me gone, you'll have to get rid of me. I respectfully decline your request to break up."
With that, Sting can't take it anymore, and his laugh breaks out. He rolls over onto his back completely cracking up. Rogue jumped and looks behind him. "You're here too? What the hell is wrong with you?! Why would you bring her here?" He ask, clenching his fist.
"Well, for starters, I knew you would try to kill me if I let her come all this way alone." He says trying to regain a serious composure. "Two, I realized you took this job so that you could be gone for a decent amount of time, spacing yourself away from the people that you care about. I told you that you weren't getting rid of me. Who knew, (Y/n) here feels the same!" He explains as sarcastically as he can.
Rogue pauses for a moment, then growls and rolls over to choke Sting. Sting begins pulling at his hair. You climb over in between them and hold their heads as far away from each other as you can. "Don't destroy our tent, you idiots!"
"Our tent?! No! You two are going home right now!" Rogue yells and you yank on his hair.
"I thought I made myself clear when I showed up in your tent... NO. I'm staying wherever you are and you can't do a damn thing to stop me."
Rogue uses his shadows to escape to the outside of the tent. You release Sting and look at each other. Sting is smiling but you on the other hand look worried. Sting senses this and whispers to you, "Perk up. Rogue is stubborn. He's a fighter. You won't win if you give up every time he gets ahead."
"I know, you're right." You smile back slightly, and then turn to exit the tent. Sting and Lector don't follow to your surprise, offering you a moment alone with your boyfriend.
"I know you're mad Rogue, but I am too." You say, walking up to the tree he's sitting against.
"You don't get it. You're mad because you're not getting your way. I'm mad because I'm trying really hard to protect you, and you're completely disregarding it."
"No, you don't get it!" You yell, ready to release all of the anger that's been building up inside you the past couple of weeks. "There's nothing to protect me from! You think you know what's going to happen in the future but you don't. You're so ready to break my heart without an actual reason!"
"Here we go again. Your heart. That's it. Not mine. IT'S HURTING ME MORE THAN IT IS YOU! I'm the one that's going to have to live the rest of my life knowing that I AM THE REASON WE COULDN'T WORK OUT! I'm the one that won't ever be able to move on. I'm the one that is going to have to suffer alone until fate steps in and turns me into that monster." He screams, now standing up in your face.
You know Sting can hear him yelling, but he decides not to interrupt. Looking into Rogue's eyes, you notice they are watered up slightly. You reach up to touch the side of his face, but he pushes your hand down. While was distracted doing that, you put your other hand to his face and held it there firmly, as he tried to grab it. "Fight what I'm saying all you want, but it won't work. This internal struggle you're having isn't going to protect anyone. Loneliness and heart break is how future you came to be. He wasn't a bad guy! I love Future Rogue as much as I love this Rogue standing here with me right now. He did something bad because of the pain he went through. You can fix that, but you're going about it all wrong." You say, your eyes now watering. You put your arm down to your side and continue. "If I truly felt isolation was what you needed, I would give that to you. I don't want to see you suffer like the future you was. That's why I'm here. I'm not disregarding your wishes, I'm protecting you the way I believe is right. The same way Sting believes is right. I love you, and I'll be damned if I give up on you."
With that you hear a slow clap developing behind you. You turn slightly and see Sting, standing at the entrance of the tent with Lector in one shoulder and Frosch on the other.
You look at your stubborn boyfriend to see he still visibly looks angry. He growls and walks off, kicking random rocks as he does. You decide to let him walk off and release some steam.
"Don't worry, he acted like this to me at first too. It's hard, but you have to be more stubborn than him. Tire out his will to fight it." Sting says as he walks up and puts an arm on your shoulder. You both watch as Rogue stomps further out of view, throwing a fit the whole way.
This is going to be a long mission if he doesn't stop this...
