Life In The Shadow Of Greatness: Miraak

Miraak sighed as he walked along, looking at the trees, birds and small creatures as they moved about. Going on with their daily lives in the woods. He was in another of his common melancholy phases, depressed about being a self proclaimed disappointment.

Born to the Dragonborns son, a powerful Dragon Slayer and Dovahkin, as well as his mom Juvia, who was a renowned water mage, he should have had some magical ability, but in fifteen years, he hadn't displayed any magical talent what so ever. He now sat upon an overturned tree, leaning against it's upturned roots as a backrest. He practically lived here, and knew every land mark in the woods around Magnolia like they were the back of his hands. He was a rather skinny boy, with navy blue hair, a mix of his mother's and his grandmother according to his father. His eyes a lighter blue, inherited directly from his grandfather.

Looking up at the peaceful sky he was interrupted from his thoughts by a loud and boisterous voice yelling out, "Hey Miraak!" Landing on the roots, right next to his head, was Nashi. His best friend and daughter of Natsu and Lucy Dragneel, she was a perfect mix of the two. Her fathers unruly pink hair, her mother's soft brown eyes. And plastered on her face was her trademark smile, a combination of the wide grin of her father and the soft kind smile of her mother. "Hey Nashi. What are you doing here." He asked, distracted from his self depressing thoughts as she hopped down to the ground. "I was looking for you baka, dad wanted me to tell you we were gonna go on a mission, and wanted to know if you'd like to come." She smiled wider, clearly excited about going on her first mission. "Thanks but no thanks. I wouldn't be much help." Sighing dramatically Nashi playfully slugged him, "Come on Miraak, itll be fun, just cause you can't use magic doesn't mean-" She cut herself off, remembering how upset Miraak could get when someone mentioned his lack of magic. Turning away Miraak frowned, a typical reaction to someone that hurt his feelongs. He was very passive, so not saying anything to her was normal. "Sorry Miraak, I didn't mean to-" This time Miraak was the one to cut her off. "Don't. Just go back and tell Uncle Natsu I said no." Sighing Nashi dropped her smile, clearly saddened at upsetting her friend. "Sorry Miraak." She repeated. "I'll tell him." Now she walked off, stuffing her hands in her pockets.

As she walked off, the shadow hissed thoughtfully to itself, looking to Miraak as he continued to lay on the log. It hissed again, this time in satisfaction. With such a massive well of magic potential to tap, it could easily use the boy to gain a mortal body once more. Then nothing could stop it from beginning it's quest once more, to get vengance for the loss of it's body.
