The Girl Who Never Smiles (Gruvia) short story part 2

Gray stands there in horror at what he sees outside her bedroom window.  He shakes his head in dismay. He can not just leave not when she is in danger.  He has to help her, but how? What can he possibly do to come to her aid?

He reaches down and sees a small pebble among the shrubs. He picks it up, silently counts to three, and throws it at the window. He knows he risks being seen known since he had to stand back from the glass to break it. He watches as the glass shatters into multiple pieces. He hopes this will be enough to scare off whoever bothers her.

Gray looks up and sees the crook has a weapon now. He does not hesitate.  He runs kicks, the few lose pieces of shards of glass out of his way, and charges at the person.  He sees now that whoever the bad person is holding the knife to her throat. He takes them by surprise from the back as he makes a ball of ice in his fist and plunges it into their back.  He breathes a sigh of relief as the masked man drops the weapon and collapses on the floor.

He sees the look Juvia has on her face now. He sees the tears combined with fear.  He goes to her and embraces her in a hug. He whispers, "Shh, it is all right, you are safe now." He feels her tremble as if she is about to pass out.  He picks her up and leaves with the vulnerable young girl in his arms.

Gray runs to his place and does not stop until they are both in the safety of his living room.  Once inside, he sets her down gently on the sofa. He hears her moan in pain.  He calls for help and explains what happened and where. He waits for help to arrive and lifts her shirt.  He sees the blood as it oozes from her chest.  He thinks I can not let her bleed to death.

He makes some ice, a small amount this time, then slowly melts it and uses it wash her chest. Then, he gets out an emergency kit, and carefully stitches her up. He adds some antiseptic to help ease the pain. Then, he bandages the area and lowers her shirt. He sees the shirt is ruined with her blood.  He checks her temperature and is relieved to see it is in the normal range.

The help arrives at his place, then to her place.  The police arrest the crook for breaking into her home,  for assault with a deadly weapon, for intent to kill, and many other things.

The paramedics take Juviat to the hospital.  This is to make sure she is okay.

Gray follows them in his car. Once there, he goes inside and asks to see Juvia Lockster.

"Right this way, sir," The doctor says.  He shows him the room Juvia is in for now.

"Now, before you enter the room, I want you to know she has a few bruises on her arms, face, and legs. The left knee cap was badly torn up, so we did surgery to fix it.  Also, we put her left arm in a cast and sling as it is broken.  Her right shoulder will take some time to heal from the surgery as well, and her face, well short of a miracle, she will have a permanent scar from her above her right ear to the base of her left eye.  This is due to years of abuse,"  The doctor explains.

"What?  Abuse, by whom?" Gray asks.

"I am sorry, I assumed you knew this already.  As to whom, the girl refuses to say.  It seems she is still afraid of whoever did this to her,"   The doctor answers.

Gray enters the room and sees Juvia with a huge bandage on her knee that was fixed, the cast and sling as mentioned before on her left arm, a bandage around her right shoulder and a huge scar in the place the doctor brought up.  He also sees a few stitches across her forehead. He wonders what this meant as no one warned him about the forehead.

"Hi, I am sorry, I did not get to you any sooner," Gray says.  He hands the girl a small flower.  It was something he found growing in the flower beds at his place.  He hopes it will cheer her up.

"Thank you," She says. She looks over at him in surprise. She thinks, is this a dream?

"I am Gray Fillibuster, and you are Juvia Lockser, I am sorry, I never probably introduced myself before today," Gray says. He tries so hard not to let her see the pain he feels at what he had to do to help her.   He hopes she can not tell he worries about her or that he likes her.

"Gray, what a nice name.  I hear you are the one who came to my rescue," Juvia says.

"Yes, but it is not something I wish to speak about anyway,"  Gray tells her.

"Oh, it is okay.   I do not mind. I should have told someone he was after me.  I tried to tell my father, but he did not believe me,"  Juvia says.

"He did not, well why ever not?"  Gray asks.

"My father is rather abusive since he drinks so much.  I know he never means it though and..." Juvia trails off.

"Juvia, did your father do this to you?  Did he give you the scar on your face?"  Gray asks.

"Gray, he did, but I..." Juvia says.

"But what?  How could you come to his defense after this? No man should ever treat his daughter this way!'  Gray says angrily.

" I know your right, but he is the only family I have left," Juvia says.

"This might be true, but there are people who care about you," Gray remarks.

"Funny you should say that because no one cares about me,"  Juvia protest.
