Chapter 1: The Present Era

13 years later, under a clear blue sky....

Two ladies could be seen sparing with each other in a clearing in a Forest. One of them had platinum blonde hair with sky blue eyes, while the other had ocean blue hair with cerulean eyes.

Blue haired girl: This forest is still as beautiful as ever.

Platinum haired girl: Indeed. It gladdens me to know that there are still places like this that haven't fallen to the Blight.

Blue haired girl: Indeed. Wish our other friends were with us to see this.

Platinum haired girl: (nods) Many moons have passed since we've seen Lady Anna and the other children. I pray that they are well.

Blue haired girl: Me too.

As they spoke, they clashed with a wide variety of spells and abilities.

If keener eyes had been present they would have noticed that some of the abilities used were reminiscent of the famed Dragon Slayer Magic.

Another matter of note was the fact that the Platinum haired girl currently had a pair of large Dragon Wings on her back which glowed with an Aura of Light, whereas the left arm of the Blue haired girl was wreathed in a Watery Construct resembling a Serpent's Head.

Blue haired girl: You have gotten better.

Platinum haired girl: So have you.

Blue haired girl: See if you can handle this. (jumps back) Ocean Dragon Roar!

The blue haired girl unleashes a pressurized stream of water from her mouth.

Platinum haired girl: Hmph. Holy Dragon Roar!

The platinum haired girl unleashed a beam of light from her mouth in response. The breath attacks of water and light collied before it made an explosion. The platinum haired girl then rose up to the air.

Platinum haired girl: Megaflare!

She unleashed a volley of laser missiles upon the blue haired girl.

Blue haired girl: Deluge!

The blue haired girl unleashes an barrage of water bullets in rapid succession. The clash of abilities wreaks some havoc on the surroundings, but nothing lasting.

The girls stare at each other for bit, before deciding to call it a day.

Platinum haired girl: Shall we head back? Shula is probably wondering about us by now.

Blue haired girl: (nodded) Yes.

Platinum haired girl: Let's us be off then, Djeeta.

Djeeta: We shall, Lyria.

The two girls, no, the two Dominants, now named Lyria and Djeeta respectively, then left the clearing, and headed for the Village of Haven, on the Continent of Mysidia. But, they weren't the only Dominants in the world. There were others like them in this era.

The scene changes to two men sitting near the campfire while the third one was leaning on a rocky wall. Another man walks over to the third man, presumably their comrade.

Soldier 4: It'll be light soon. Both camps have begun to stir.

Having heard that, the third man pushed himself off the wall and addressed the rest of the men.

Soldier 3: You all know the target. Shiva's Dominant. And only the Dominant.

Soldier 2: No one else? Where's the fun in that? How do we even know the girl will be among them?

Soldier 3: (stern) Our kind do not question orders, we follow them.

The third man, the leader of the group, leans closer to glare at Soldier 2, giving one a clear view of his brand.

Soldier 3: Try to keep that in mind.

The first soldier had his hand near his branded mark on his left cheek before he removes it. This brand was something all 4 men had on their left cheeks, a sign that they were something inhuman, a Bearer.

Most men and women in Valisthea rely on the Mothercrystals to conjure their magicks. However, a small number are born with the ability to cast magicks at will.

These people were known as Bearers, and their lot in life differs dramatically depending on the realm in which they are born.

In the Holy Empire of Sanbreque and almost every other part of the world, they are treated as slaves, as tools to do their bidding so that they do not have to waste precious crystals. Bearers were anything but human. Such was the common consensus of the people of Valisthea.

Soldier 3: Let's get this done.

As the fourth man followed the third away from camp, the second groaned in annoyance before getting up to douse the campfire with a water spell.

The first soldier stood as he and the second followed the others outside the cave. As he stopped to stare at the sun for a bit, the 3rd man called out to him.

Soldier 3: Focus Wyvern. (Wyvern turns to face him) You are key to this mission's success.

Having said his piece, the third man walked forth to lead his squad.

Wyvern: Yes, Sergeant. (follows the squad)

After traversing the treacherous terrain for a bit, the Squad stopped to discuss strategy.

Soldier 4: And?

Soldier 2: Quick and deadly?

Soldier 3: As always.

The leader then turned to Wyvern with a sigh.

Soldier 3: Take the van.

Wyvern walks foward with the other soldiers following behind before he stops.

Wyvern: Wait. Something's not right.

Suddenly, something massive crashed through the canyon, reducing stone to dust. That something pulled away.....To reveal the hand of TITAN.

Soldier 3: Titan. So the Dhalmeks finally grew tired of being slaughtered.

As Titan marched forth, a storm of ice crystals came into existence, coalescing to form a single, larger ice crystal, which shattered apart to reveal the Warden of Ice, Shiva.

Soldier 2: Hah! And look who's here to greet the bastard.

Soldier 3: Lets go.

The squad run off towards Shiva as she prepared to do battle with Titan. The Dhalmeks fired their catapults at Shiva. In response, Shiva blocked the Aether-infused projectiles with a barrier of ice, before firing 5 massive ice missiles, which struck the catapults and exploded into multiple ice spikes that covered a large area, killing many Dhalmekian Soldiers in the process.

The Dhalmekian and Ironblood soldiers were getting crushed undernather Titan's foot as it glanced at Shiva. Shiva then fired more Ice Crystals at Titan, only to smash them apart with a single punch.

Shiva unleashed more ice crystals, but Titan thrust its fist, shattering them before it stopped its foot on the ground. In doing so, it unleashed a massive earthquake that devastated both the Dhalmekian and Ironblood armies, going as far as to affect Wyvern's Squad.

Wyvern: Look out!

As he said that, he barely dodged a falling boulder:

Soldier 3: You don't get to die here, Wyvern! Move!

The soldiers ran away until the earthquake split the ground in half, separating the squard.

Soldier 2: Fuck me! (sees another way and turns to Wyvern) This way!

As they ran, Titan and Shiva's battle continued overhead, wreaking utter chaos and destruction all over the place.

Soldier 2: (glares at Shiva) She's right on top of us...

With that said, it didn't stop the two Eikons from rearranging the entire terrain beyond recognition with their battle. The two soldiers up to the hill and saw their teammates who went ahead.

Soldier 2: (to Wyvern) Are you just going to stand there!?

He did not wait to hear Wyvern's response before he jumped off the cliff and slid down the rocky slope below. Wyvern saw a boulder behind as he jumped off, tumble a bit before he slides down on the rocky slope.

As the two soldiers slid down, more boulders came flying down upon them. Wyvern looked up, and to his horror he saw one such boulder flying towards his comrade in front of him.

Wyvern: Shit! BIAST!!!

Soldier 2, Biast, screamed in horror but it was too late. The boulder crashed right on top of him, reducing him to red paste.

Wyvern, in his lapse of attention as a result of the death of his comrade right in front of him, failed to notice a Fallen Ruin tower falling over behind him until the very last second, and the force of it sent him flying. Wyvern falls to the ground hard and lost consciousness for a moment.

He regained it again for a moment, barely registering his leader yelling at him before pulling him to safety

Soldier 3: Damn it! Wyvern! Wyvern! (starts dragging Wyvern as his attention turns to the boulder that crushed Biast) I told you before. You do not get to die here!

Wyvern: (reaches out to the boulder) Brother...

He then passes out once more, and dreamt of the past. Back in better times...

Sometime later, Wyvern finally regained consciousness, and saw his other two comrades sitting off to the side.

Soldier 3: Welcome back.

Wyvern: Sorry... What's the situation?

Soldier 3: Let's just say, Shiva and Titan's little spat hasn't made things any easier.

As he said that, Wyvern turned to the boulder that crushed Biast. He then looks down and mourns for the lost of his comrade. The fourth soldier then returned from reconnaissance.

Soldier 3: And?

Soldier 4: It's as you thought. The Crusaders have sounded the retreat.

Soldier 3: (gets up) Then we follow.

Wyvern: We're down a man, Sergeant.

Soldier 3: If we return without Shiva's head, our fate will be no different from Biast's. I'll take my chances with the Ironblood. At least then I might die fighting.

He paused to kick Wyvern's sword towards him before finishing.

Soldier 3: After you do, that is.

Wyvern: (stood up and grabs his sword) I won't be dying. Not today.

Soldier 4: Then it's settled. No dying. Now if you don't mind, we have an army to chase.

The soldiers began to move out to find Shiva's Dominant.

Soldier 4: How do they expect us to kill something that can do this!?

Soldier 3: They don't. Only the girl holding its leash.

Soldier 4: All the old trails are gone. It'll be hell finding a way out.

Soldier 3: Do you think a retreating army and their Dominant will fare any better?

As they continued their search, Wyvern took a good look at the aftermath of the Eikonic Battle.

No words could describe how horrible it was. Spires of stone andiIce were propped up all over the place, and the entirety of the landscape was altered beyond belief. Nothing was left of those who were caught in the blast radius, save for patches of blood and a random body part here and there.

Wyvern: By the flames...

As they were moving, they heard sounds of talking nearby.

Soldier 4: Did you hear that?

Soldier 3: Down there.

They went to a cliff as they saw a group of Ironblood soldiers with four women in their grasps.

Soldier 3: So, Titan has knocked the fight out of our Ironblood friends....But where are the rest of them? That can't be the main host...

Just then, the fourth soldier noticed something.

Soldier 4: Wait. (Leans forward to have a better look)

Of the women who with the Ironblood troops, there was one woman, who had long, dirty silver hair, and was wearing dull gray robes, who was being treated rather roughly.

More so than the other slaves, considering that her hands were cuffed behind her back with crystal shackles.

Ironblood crusader: (pushes the woman forward) Faster, Abomination!

Soldier 4: Our fortunes have turned, Sergeant. It's her.

Soldier 3: The Dominant? Are you certain?

Soldier 4: The Crystalline Orthodox is a backwards faith for a backwards people. In the Iron Kingdom, they teach that Dominants are unclean aberrations born of blackest sin. Only their priests are allowed to perform the Rites of Priming, and I see many.

Soldier 3: (draws his sword) We end this quickly.

The 3 Bearer soldiers immediately leapt down to meet their quarry. The Ironblood soldiers noticed the 3 Bearers soldiers coming toward them.

Crusader: Ambush! Defend our fathers!

The Ironblood crusaders circle around, defending the preists. One of the crusaders made for one of the women slaves, grabbing her by the arm and holding a rapier up to her neck.

Slave 1: (crying) Please...

Shiva's Dominant could do nothing but glare impotently at the crusader, unable to act out without fear of hurting the slave, watching in anguish as the blade drew blood.

Another crusader came up and undid her shackles, before kicking her to the ground.

Crusader 2: Prime or the girl dies!

However, the Dominant didn't. Or rather, she couldn't. She had expended much of her power fighting Titan, and the crystal's curse had extracted its toll, leaving her severely exhausted and weakened.

Soon, the 3 Bearer soldiers came down as the crusaders charged at them. Seeing no other options, the crusader with the rapier tossed it over to Shiva's Dominant.

Crusader 1: If you've no ice left in you, then steel will have to serve.

With an inclination of his head, he ordered some of his troops to take the slaves with them as the others bought time for their retreat. Shiva's Dominant then picked up the rapier and wiped the blood off her lips before readying herself for battle.

Shiva's dominant: Let this be the end...

Soldier 3: Aevis, care to kill some Ironblood?

Aevis: Gladly.

Soldier 3: Wyvern, you focus on the target.

Wyvern: Understood.

While Aevis and the leader fight the crusaders, Wyvern charges at Shiva's Dominant as the two clashed blades with each other.

As they clashed, Shiva's Dominant eventually gains enough energy to cast her magicks, assailing Wyvern with a variety of ice spells. In response, Wyvern counters her ice magic with his fire magic, allowing him to keep pace with her.

It did help that she was still too weak to even Semi-Prime, otherwise this battle would have been over in an instant. But she won't give up without a fight. She began unleashing large icicles that rain down upon her enemies.

Aevis: Orders, Sergeant!?

Soldier 3: Stop gawping and move!

Wyvern then unleashes a fireball spell at Shiva's Dominant. The fireball strikes true, knocking her down and interrupting her Spell.

Soldier 3: (relieved but annoyed) Fucking Eikons....

Aevis: (flabbergasted) Eikon!? She hasn't even primed!

Shiva's Dominant gets back up and back into the fray, determined to see the battle through. Shiva's Dominant unleashed an ice blast at Wyvern who counters it with a fire blast.

Shiva's Dominant: (desperate) I will not have their blood on my hands...

She unleashed spires, spears, and blasts of ice, not caring for the fact that she was destroying her own body in the process.

Wyvern: Phoenix Shift!

Wyvern teleports to Shiva's Dominant in a instant.

Wyvern: Rising Flames!

He sprout Phoenix's wing and launch her into the air with a powerful swipe. Shiva's Dominant felt the both her strength and her consciousness beginning to fade as she took the blow head on, unable to defend herself in time.

Instinctively, she knew she was going to die. And yet in spite of the fact she could feel nothing but relief. Relief that she would die having at least protected the girls with her early, and that she would be freed from her slavery in death.

Shiva's Dominant: With this, I can finally.... (loses consciousness)

The soldier took their breath before they heard footsteps coming their way as Wyvern walked toward Shiva's dominant. He rolls her over to her back with his right foot.

Soldier 3: Is she dead?

Wyvern: I don't think so.

Aevis: Well? What are you waiting for!?

Wyvern has his sword near her throat and tilted her head as he saw tears coming down from her closed eyes. He widen his eyes in shock as he recongizes her.

Wyvern: (shock) N-No... No, that's— Not you... Not here...

It was Jill Warrick. His dear childhood friend.

Why? Why did it have to be her?

For him to be pitted against her of all people....Truly, fate was as cruel as it was artistic.

Aevis: (pushes Wyvern) I'll bloody do it, then!

Aevis his sword to end her, but then he taken out by an axe flying toward him. The Squad Leader and Wyvern looked up to see that Ironblood reinforcements had arrived.

Soldier 3: We've got company Wyvern!

Wyvern knew what he must do. He unsheathes his sword, picks up Jill, and carries her to a safe area.

Soldier 3: (stares at Wyvern incredulously) What the hell are you doing!?

As that happened, the leading crusader gave the order to attack.

Leading crusader: Retrieve the Abomination!

The crusaders leapt down and charged at the two soldiers.

Soldier 3: (to Wyvern) Get your arse over here and help me with these bastards!

Wyvern then places Jill on the ground as he looked at her with sadness and regret.

Wyvern: I'm sorry, Jill...

Knowing this spot will keep her safe for now, Wyvern walked toward the crusaders and draws his sword out. He and his superior, Tiamat, then engaged the Ironblood crusaders.

Tiamat: What is wrong with you, Wyvern!?

Wyvern: The Dominant... I know her.

Tiamat: Know her!? Look around you! Do you think any of these animals care? I need you here!

Wyvern and Tiamat had been killing the Ironblood crusaders until none of them were standing.

Tiamat: Now that that's done....(points his sword at Wyvern) I won't ask you again, Wyvern. Take her head so we can be done with this!

Wyvern: (looks at Jill) I... I can't... (glares at Tiamat) I won't!

Tiamat: (readies himself for battle angrily) You would betray the Holy Empire!?

Wyvern: (grips his sword tightly) Betray? I don't recall ever pledging allegiance to your emperor. My service may have been bought with this brand, but not my loyalty. (readies himself for battle) I just fight to survive.

Tiamat: And you think I don't!? The empire will have our heads if we're return empty handed! So if you won't take hers, I'll have to take yours!

Wyvern: I told you, Sergeant. I'm not dying here today. And neither is she!

Tiamat: Let's find out.

The two clashed blades at once, in a duel with neither honour nor glory to be had, only the right to walk away.

Tiamat: Wyvern...! Have you forgotten who plucked you from the front lines? Who trained you? Who gave you a name when you had none!?

Wyvern: You speak as if we don't have the same brand, Sergeant! I've always had a name, and I've not forgotten it.

Tiamat: Still clinging to the past like a torn blanket? Then you will die... as you should have thirteen years ago.

The contintued to clash their blades with each other, blocking and parrying. But Wyvern has the upper hand into terms of magic and speed.

Tiamat: You're nothing! No one! And I will not fall by your hand!

Wyvern: Scarlet Cyclone!

Wyvern sprout Phoenix's wings and spin, damaging Tiamat before he delivers a vertical slash across his chest.

Tiamat lets out one last groan of agony, before dropping to the ground, dead as a door nail. Wyvern was panting before he saw more Ironblood crusader reinforcments.

Wyvern: No...!

He immediately sheathed his sword and ran over to Jill, hugging her close in a futile attempt to shield her as the Ironblood crusaders closed in.

One of the crusaders was about to swing his mace at Wyvern, however...

**KRA-KROOM!!!**

Bolts of lightning fell from high heaven, smiting the Ironblood crusaders until none remained standing. Wyvern was shocked by what just happened until he heard some footsteps coming his way.

From the dust generated from the force of the lightning strikes, a a gray wolf with massive body, gray fur, yellow eyes, and a long tail. He has a metal bangle on his left front paw came out, followed by a middle aged man with a well-built body, short light brown swept back hair, a stubble beard, and green eyes, wearing a purple attire of carefree style.

Man: This way.

Wyvern stared at the man in confusion.

???: Uh, Cid!

Cid: (sighs) Bloody wind! (looks at Wyvern) Well, come on then!

Wyvern took a moment to accept the situation, before swearing twice as he carried Jill after Cid.

Chapter 1 ended.

I hope you like this chapter. Just so you know, with Fairy Tail, my partner and I decided to have it take place at the final season, seemly how it fits well with Final Fantasy 16.

Anyway, if you have any ideas for the next chapter, let me know at the comments below. Peace out and enjoy!
