A Trail of Ash
Everyone from the ship was already on the island. When we arrived Laxus helped Levy and I off the boat and then he headed back to the ship. Levy pursed her lips for a moment before shaking her head and then she looked to me with a small smile.
"Ready to go meet Mirajane?" I took a deep breath and nodded.
"Sure, let's go," I nod and follow after her down a path that lead from the beach and into the line of trees. As we walked my nerves spiked and I wanted more than anything to just get out of here. After a few minutes of walking a large house made of indigenous trees and came into view. The base was rock, and it looked quite beautiful.
"I promise, Mira is the sweetest girl you will ever meet," Levy tells me as we approach the door. I can hear the commotion of the rest of the crew inside and my nerves where now at their peak. I think I was beginning to show some of the nerves as Levy grabbed my hand and squeezed it. "Come on," she urged me in as she opened the door. The inside was open and airy, it was lit by hanging jars with candles and fireflies. Fires danced on small torches and sunlight shone through the glass in the roof. Sea shells and starfish hung in various places, and jars of sand, small stones and shells sat on various shelves and tables. People where laughing and talking, either sitting on chairs and couches or leaning on walls. Levy pulled me past people and I gazed at the house that looked like a home out of a fairy tale. It was gorgeous.
Levy got me to the staircase and we ascended, but as we walked it felt like there where rocks tied to my ankles. When we did reach the top of the stair case I saw more sea decor; pearl hooks and sand dollars, shelves carved out of limestone and coral plants. Then it hit me that I hadn't ever heard Mirajane's name before in the castle and I stopped moving. Levy noticed this and turned to me.
"Is something wrong Lu?" She asked and I nodded my head slightly.
"I just have a question...what exactly is Mirajane the princess of?" I ask her hesitantly.
"Why, she is princess of the mermaids of course," Levy giggles like it was common knowledge and I stare at her baffled. Mermaids did exist after all... and I was about to meet their princess. Yeah, this was normal, everyday stuff for the former princess of Fiore. "Let's go!" Levy grabs my wrist and pulls me into a room. I stumble slightly and as I right myself I see Natsu and Erza already in the room.
"Finally here, huh? Did you enjoy your sleep?" Natsu asks me with an amused look on his face.
"Yeah, actually, I did." I stick my tongue out at him on impulse, something I had never done before. He chuckled and shook his head before walking over to my side.
"Lucy, this is Princess Mirajane," He gestures to a strikingly beautiful girl with long white hair, and paler skin. She had bright blue eyes that reminded me of deep ocean waters and a gentle smile that calmed my nerves almost the instant I laid eyes upon her.
"Lucy, it is so very nice to meet you," Mirajane stood up and I shook her outstretched hand, bowing slightly out of respect. She beamed at me before turning to Erza, who seemed more than happy for the attention.
"Are you doing okay Luce? You look paler than you have been lately," Natsu looks at me concerned.
"I'm fine, I was just a little uneasy about coming here." I squirm slightly and Levy squeezes my hand, making me realize she was still holding it. I smile at her in thanks and then I release her hand. She then gives a slight nod to Natsu and ducks out of the room.
"Alright, I assumed you have everything here already Lucy?" Natsu asks and Mirajane looks at me expectantly.
"Yes," I hold up my bag, "I have everything."
"Natsu, mind showing her to a room? You know your way around... I'd like to speak alone with Erza." The red-headed second in command blushed slightly and I held back my puzzled look as Natsu nodded and then held onto my arm, making tingles explode over my skin. We left the room and he released me. I followed him quietly as he walked down to one of the rooms and then opened the door.
"Just put your things in here. I'll be downstairs when you're done," He tells me before striding back down the hallway before disappearing down the steps. I watch him leave and then I shut the door to my room. I throw my bag on the bed and I look around the simple yet elegant room. Blue walls, white furniture, and a few shells and candles on surfaces that gave it a soothing effect. I went over to the bed and opened my bag, rummaging through until my fingers felt the parchment.
"Gotcha," I murmur and pull the documents out. I slip my fingers into the envelope and I pull out a few pieces of paper that have been tightly folded together. I slowly unfold them and begin to read them.
Record of Death.
Year: x791, Month: July, Day: 18
Deceased: Makarov Dreyar; Captain of the ship Fairy Tail
Time of Death: 6:54pm
Event:
The ship (Fairy Tail) was docked in the port town of Hargeon, a hub for all things goods and transport. The stop was for maintenance and to pick up supplies, it was routine. But as we where identified as pirates guards soon rushed us. We had to leave, but escape would be narrow and difficult at best. Then to make matters worse Jude Heartfilia and his knights arrived. Jude himself didn't do anything, he just watched us; amused by the sight.
We fought the trained knights tooth and nail but we barely escaped with our lives. We where making our way back on the ship when we all heard a cry of pain. We then turned to see one of the knights had stabbed Makarov through the chest with a sword. Soon more blades followed and he was torn apart before we could move.
When we did move it was to get back on the ship and prevent any more casualties.
His body was left, and we never recovered it. It was most likely burned, seeing as he was an enemy of the state.
Official Cause of Death: Multiple stab wounds to the chest, head, and arms.
Official funeral: None
Official Health: Unknown
Decased's Will: None
I set the papers aside slowly, with a shaky hand. They had all witnessed that. That was how their previous captain died. I knew my father did these kinds of things, but to see an official document of people who experienced it first hand was...sickening. I folded the papers back up and pushed them back into the envelope. I tucked it away in my bag before getting up to head down to the main area with everyone else, but when I looked at the door I saw a man I had never seen before standing in the door frame; grinning.
"Who are you?" I ask kindly.
"Me? I'm the last person you're going to see while you're alive."
------------
The explosion knocked me off my feet. Just seconds after he said that he disappeared and there was a massive explosion. I had reached for my sword which was hanging at my hip but he was gone before I could flinch. I felt heat licking at me from below. Fire. Panic settled over me for the second time today as I sprang back up and snatched my bag from the bed. I stumbled out into the hall and saw smoke pouring in from the stairwell. I heard people yelling as I threw the door to Mirajane's office open.
Erza had Mirajane in her arms, the girl having taken a bad blow to the head. Blood was seeping into her previously clean white hair. Erza came out the door and I followed her down the stairs. Unfortunately for me the ceiling collapsed between us so I was stuck on the upper floor. I scrambled back from the debris and felt a steady trickle of blood down my leg. I didn't need to look at it to know I had been cut. I then hurried to open all of the windows I could get to, hoping to vent most of the smoke. It was thick now, and I had my dress pulled over my nose in attempt to keep myself from breathing too much in.
I considered jumping out a window but there where too many rocks below, I would most likely die or break every bone in my body. I kept my head leaned out a window but I still felt myself growing dizzy from the smoke, and my lungs burned with every breath. I could feel myself loosing consciousness, and I was starting to wonder if anyone could get to me. I was sure they where trying, seeing as they had to know I was up here. Erza had seen me for sure, and I had never gone back downstairs. The yelling I had been hearing was fading and I wasn't sure if it was me losing consciousness or the commotion coming to a stop. Then I felt another explosion behind me, but it was smaller. I looked back and saw at the end of the hallway through the door a figure standing, engulfed in flames.
"She's up there!" I heard Erza yell before coughing.
"Any idea where?" Natsu's voice called back to her. I realized the figure was Natsu at this point. How is he...covered in flames...?
"No! Just try and find her quick, this place won't hold up for long!" Erza shouted back. I tried to use my voice but it was scratchy and non-existent; yet again. I heard Natsu calling my name. When he spotted me he sighed with relief.
"Lucy! Okay you're safe, and still breathing," He ran over to me and lifted me up, holding me tight against him before he ran back out of the house. Fresh air slammed into me and I breathed it in with a soft gasp, happy to feel the cleansing air in my lungs instead of the thick, burning smoke.
"She's injured, let's get her to Wendy," I heard Erza talking to Natsu but my vision was foggy at best so I just kept my eyes closed. I felt myself get set on some sand, and some time later I smelled food and heard laughter. Everything must be alright now. I had tried opening my eyes a few times and I was met with the darkness of the sky. Then my eyes would close again and I'd go back to being foggy. I felt my head get lifted up and then rested against something, it wasn't exactly a pillow but it was comfortable.
"I'm sorry this happened Luce, it looks like someone followed us and tried to take us all out. I guess the safe place wasn't actually all that safe." Natsu said quietly from above me.
"Don't be...sorry. You..couldn't have known...you did your best. Thank you." I speak soft with my mangled voice.
"I just don't want to lose you too. I can't let that happen to my precious person, not again." I heard him murmur, more to himself than me. And as I drifted off I couldn't help but wonder who exactly had his other precious person been?

Hey people! I got another update out for Pirates within the same week as the previous update... *highfives self*. I hope you all are really enjoying this book! But, I have one issue. You guys have to chill out when it comes to Lisanna, there is no need to kill a character who hasn't even been introduced. I get that you want to defend your ship, that is totally respectable. But please, please, please stop the hating on Lisanna. She hasn't even done anything in this book, and it is very disheartening to see so many people calling her a whore and saying they hate her, that they want to kill her, ect.
I like her as a character, and I know the feeling of hating the character that gets between your ship all too well. But I usually keep my death threats to myself, and thats just me believing in common curtesy both for the character and author/reader, depending on the situation. Yes, you are entitled to your opinion of Lisanna, but I am asking you to keep the negative thoughts out of my comment section(s). When you get 20+ emails about comments and half of them are hate on Lis, you would grow really tired of it too.
I hope you all understand, and know that any comment from today forward that is extremely negative towards Lisanna will be deleted. There are exceptions, but essentially if your comment would be viewed as bullying if you where saying it to another person, I suggest you don't leave it in my comment sections. (That's really the type of comments I want to get rid of).
Please keep the comment section a nice place guys, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!
